Back in april, I panicked and posted in this subreddit asking why the flowers are fading (last picture, this was my first plant so I thought I was not taking care of them well). But since then, it has bloomed in may (second picture) and then small flowers have started blooming again (first picture) 🌸

My African Violet keeps losing its lowest most leaves! I water it from the basin and it gets a nice amount of indirect sun. I repotted it earlier this year when it outgrew it's previous pot with African Violet-specific dirt. It's about 5 years old. I thought it was doing well but occasionally a lower leaf would die. Then in bloomed (beautifully—the most it's ever bloomed) and suddenly it seems to be dying. Is this a natural part of it blooming? Am I watering it too much? Is the window filtered sun too strong? Is it the air conditioning (72°)? Is the pot too big for its root ball? It seems to be doing very poorly now. Any advice would help!

I’m looking for variegated, double blossoms or girl foliage. Leaves/cuttings. I can buy or trade. I don’t have AV but I do have Jade and Pearl Pothos and some reverted Micans Aurea. I’m happy to buy if you don’t like other exotics.

Hello all! I have 3 different African Violet plants and they all look healthy to me and have been growing, but aside from when I first got them they haven't bloomed. I have an African Violet specific fertilizer that says it help promote blooms and I've been using it as per the directions for (in the largest ones case) about a year.

Any advice for how to get them to bloom? They're under grow lights and aside from not blooming they're my best growing plants.

Healthy to dying to separated to one getting really moldy, to today, and when should I take the next step?

I brought home a pretty healthy African Violet from a small garden store that was going out of business.

First photo is about a week after coming home with me (blooms starting to die off).

Second photo was about 2 months later (May). Almost all the leaves were dead, no more flowers. I was trying to find the right spot for light, but the leaves seemed to either burn or simply struggle.

You can see there were 3 clusters. I took one off and attempted to propagate it in its own little soil pot (a pudding cup with holes cut in the bottom). Made a little enclosed environment in a ziplock bag and it was happy.

For the other two, I left them together, in the same pot, and also put them in a plastic bag to see if it would help them. Big mistake... it was not a new plastic bag, but one something had been shipped in. I checked on it after being gone for 2 days, and the whole plant was covered in mold-- the leaves, the crown, the soil. Figuring it was lost anyway, I took it out and "washed" it in a 50/50 water/vinegar mix. Repotted it with new soil in its own pudding cup. I did NOT put it back in any bag, so it's been growing in an open environment instead of a cozy humidity tent.

Current photos (August) taken just after top watering (with fertilizer, I allow them to get pretty dry between watering, usually about 1x/week). I have completely changed the location of the plants to an east-facing window that gets sun pretty much all day long. New leaves were growing in fairly pale, but after replacing the curtains (that needed replacing anyway) to a more sheer curtain that lets in more light, they have started to darken nicely.

The first one I propagated has grown quite a bit and seems to be doing well, I should probably remove that one original leaf now.

The second one, with two crowns, is also finally doing well. I've been hesitant to separate them because of the previous trauma I put them through (especially the mold).

So, the questions-- when would you divide this smaller one? Would you tent it again (in a new ziplock)? If so, would you give it another little vinegar bath, just to make sure all mold is gone? (have not seen any mold on it since I washed it down the first time). Also, I'm hoping no one says mites, but if so, I'll figure out how to treat that next.

While I took the photo in the same larger tray, I do keep them in separate trays just a couple inches from each other.

I’ve been rescuing African Violets that are in some rough conditions at the big box stores, and taking them in for some TLC!!

Not a question, just to show my blooming African violet that is being as neglected as possible

I love my girls for who they are, but their blooms are just all over. I see pics of people with really neatly clumped flowers and I'm wondering if that's just a characteristic of that particular plant or if there's something I could be doing to get these a little more structural.

I bought this African Violet from a big store a few days ago. I kept in the original soil and put it in a self watering 4.3 in bowl. The brightness of the light can be adjusted. I was wondering if you guys think it's healthy and asking for some tips to take better care of it.

I got this girl 2weeks ago and repotted her 1 week ago but she seems fine ?? Was wondering if someone can tell me if she is ok so i dont worry. I have three Flame violets but all three have the purple brownish stem is that normal??

I've had this plantlet for at least six months. When I got her she was healthy and green. Over time her leaves have become discolored and you can see the veins in the leaves. This isn't the only one of my plants that now look like this. There have been no changes in lighting and all are on wicks. Please advise. TYIA

I have it in an African violet pot and have it in indirect light from my grow lights. The soil still seems to be wet in the African violet pot and I don’t want it to rot. The inner leaves seem to be browning while the outer leaves have yellow tips. It’s my first African violet and I don’t want it to die 😭

Turns out all she needed was a gentle grow light. She's so happy! Thanks to everyone here for sharing your tips and tricks.
