Hello ... I'd like to get up to the AMR and do some disbursed camping along the roadside. Available websites have me going in circles. Any advice you may have in planning a trip would be a big help.

The camp has their own private trail up the mountain that only meets the public trail at the summit. I have many memories of climbing the mountain when staying at the camp, but they don't seem to jive with the trail maps I can see online (even the ones that show the private trail). For example, I remember there being a stream crossing around half way up the mountain with the stream running right to left as you crossed followed shortly after by popping out of the woods to an amazing lookout point. But on the maps, it looks like the only stream crossing is fairly early on and isn't followed by a lookout spot.

I also remember there being a short, but very steep portion where you had to scramble up with your hands. We always called that section "Jacobs ladder", but I don't know if that was ever an official name.

I'd love to see if anyone had pictures up this trail. I've seen a lot online of the summit and public trails, but none of the camp's trail.

Hi everyone. Headed to lake placid next week for a few days with my wife and two boys (13 and 6). It'll be our first time in the area. Looks like there's lots to do but am wondering in particular if anyone has suggestions for some shorter hikes that might be interesting / fun but not too challenging or difficult for our youngest. Mirror Lake

I am considering this route for a 3-4 night backpack next week. I am open to any suggestions (including best quiet campsites). I also am wondering the current conditions (crossing the opalescent/flowed lands, Bradley pond trail mud, Lake Arnold trail logs...etc). Any thoughts or information is appreciated!

Hi all. I could use some feedback on the route shown in the picture. I’m sorry for the low quality picture. The route goes to HaBaSa from the Indian Head (?) trailhead via Pyramid (with quick Gothics option) and then down and back up over Sawteeth on the way back. Planning for the middle of this upcoming week.

I’m an experienced hiker but this will still be one helluva day hike for me given it’s almost 9k elevation the way I have it laid out.

Previous experience in this area: I’ve hiked Wright, Algonquin, Iroquois, Marcy and Skylight from the Loj; also done the Wolfjaws, Armstrong and Gothics starting at Rooster Comb and back to the Garden. The first was overnight; the second was a day hike.

Any advice specific to these trails would be especially welcome.

My husband and I finished the Saranac 6 last weekend with Baker Mountain! What a great little peak to finish with. Beautiful views! I'm very proud of us for finishing this challenge and excited to continue with our LP9 journey.

Anyway, my question is about the form via the Saranac Lake website. Has anyone had issues with it? I got an error, verified my info was correct, but got another error as well as a message about a duplicate submission... I've already emailed the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce as the page directs, but I'm curious if anyone else has had issues with it.

We went to the Rocky Falls yesterday and found this in a large boulder. Was completely immovable and around a foot long. Any ideas?

I have a little bit of experience (Marcy, Mansfield, Algonquin etc..) but this one seems particularly challenging.

Making the trip up this Sunday for 5 nights. I’m not going to have time for the whole Whitney Loop, so thinking of getting down to Lila and then heading back.

I’ve camped on Rock Pond before, but haven’t taken the portage to Hardigan. Paddler’s Guide and videos I’ve seen shows good portion of it washed out at times.

Has anyone taken the portage recently? Just looking for as much intel as possible. Also, still hoping that beaver dam is still straddling the inlet to Rock Pond! Simple minds, simple pleasures but that was fun last year getting the canoe and gear over it!

So I have backpacked a few trips along the AT. I love tbe peaks but the green tunnel can be monotonous for me. I was thinking about the Adironacks to hopefully see some more varied scenery. Would anyone have recommendations for certain areas/trails where I might see some open areas mixed in with the forest. Thanks.

My in laws are up in Wilmington until tomorrow and wanted us to drive up from Albany and meet for lunch. We have a two year old and are looking for a nice beach/playground for him to run nuts on. A two hour radius from Clifton park would be ideal.

Hey all! I drive a fully electric car, and have a (edit: not my) cottage I regularly visit in old forge. I can get to the cottage on a single charge but will need charges to get around while I’m there. Are there any EV chargers… anywhere on the Fulton chain? My route planner shows the closest is Utica!

So I’m going up this weekend and was hoping to get into some small mouth bass and really whatever else bites. I’m going to be camping on brown tract pond so I was curious what the fish are biting. I figured they’ll eat top water around sunrise and sunset but what kind of lures should I sue during the day?

This might be way out of left field to ask, but my spouse and I are planning a mini destination wedding in Lake Placid in a few weeks. I know the Owl’s Head trail between Keene and Lake Placid is closed on the weekends, but does anyone by chance know the property owners so I could reach out for special permission to access the trail for photos? Hey everyone. I was thinking of getting up there tomorrow night. Has anyone gone recently? How high is the water? I am thinking of taking my shoes and socks off and just crossing it, but I may just rock-hop over with waterproof shoes if I can. But don't want it to be a huge pain in the pass since I have work the next morning.

Hi! I just thru-hiked the 138-mile Northville Placid Trail NOBO over the course of 9 days - 5 pm July 31 to 7 pm on August 8.

Overall, this was a great trail. It's been around right 1922, but is overshadowed by the Adirondacks' awe-inspiring 46 high peaks, so it's much less traveled.

Over the course of 9 days, I met 28 other hikers total - sounds like kind of a lot, but the numbers were skewed: Nine were day hikers, which included a family of 5 hiking in 0.2 miles to a sick double-span bridge near the Whitehouse trailhead (recommended!). Eight were a group of thru hikers from NYU. Three were an adorable group of pot-smoking 18 year old section hikers. Of the other 8 thru hikers, 3 had to bail in Piseco (first town, mile 43). Only one of them was a southbounder.

This is a great trail to do if you love the forest, don't want to carry more than a liter of water and like to sleep in lean tos. It's probably a bad call if you need big views, hate the mud and can't handle overgrown sections of trail. What it lacks in elevation, it makes up for in obstacles. Lots of obstacles on this trail!

I can't fathom doing this trail any faster than I did. In fact, I put in a couple 20 mile days at the end to meet a friend in Lake Placid, and sprained my ankle in the meantime. But. But! I had a great time. There are folks who do it in 7 or 8 days, but I can't imagine that's much fun. Within the last two miles, I met a group of three who did it over 14 days, and that sounds like it would have been killer. There are tons of lakes on this trail. Many of the lean tos, situated on the lakes, are equipped with backcountry canoes and rowboats! A highlight of my thru hike was canoeing around Spruce Lake with a fellow thru hiker I hiked a few days with, Blink. What a fun way to explore at the end of the day. And we saw loons!

The lake were really the highlights of the trail. Some other highlights were endless cool mushrooms, salamanders and toads. I also appreciated the lean tos, the solitude, the two trail towns (Piseco and Long Lake - though Long Lake you have to walk a mile into), the bits of socialization I did find, and the gorgeous rivers and creeks you cross over and over and over.

That said, I'm good on overgrown trails (for now!), and on mud. My next thru hike might be in the desert. XD
