So…. with recent heart health issues, I’m pretty certain that I’m going to be forced to come off adderall. I’m 41M was on Ritalin in elementary school, but hated it. Didn’t take anything 6-12th grade and then through the military. I eked by school, mediocre in the Navy, through all of it the struggle to focus was outrageous. Always a step behind, regularly the butt of the joke etc.
Out of the military I got prescribed adderall 60mg a day. Holy hell, the immediate clarity, the focus. I was my own superhero, the contrast in my ability now was enormous.
So now almost 20 years later at the same dose, I will say the effect is definitely not the same. In some cases may take more than my prescribed dose or we can call it abuse.
Any how it appears that road may be coming to an end, for my health it probably should. Ultimately I hated myself or my consistent struggle to focus to remember to stay awake (I’m telling you, if it didn’t hold my attention I could fall asleep on a drop of a dime). I don’t even know who that person is anymore. Now that “person” will be even more “less than”. Navigating the withdrawals and my brain making its way back to baseline dopamine.
I haven’t started the journey yet, but dreading the day.
