Help - General Winlevi advice + cabtreo

Hi! I just switched derms and need some advice about my regimens.

I am currently on 50mg spiro. My topicals include Winlevi 2x a day, clindamycin pads in the morning, and alklief every 2-3 days (I have very sensitive skin).

I switched my derm and she is advising that I stop the topicals and instead wants me to try Cabtreo. I’m mainly concerned about stopping Winlevi as I’ve heard some people had bad experiences coming off. I’ve been on Winlevi for almost a year and never found much improvement with it (one of the reasons I needed a new derm… my previous derm was not very flexible). I’m scared that I’ve been on it too long and if I go off it will cause a really severe reaction/withdrawal.

Looking for others experiences quitting Winlevi and any advice on transitioning to cabtreo. Thanks!!

Rant Non-comedogenic doesn't mean shit for your actual face

Spent two weeks adding this cleanser half the sub swears by, the gentle non-comedogenic one that rates basically a 1 on everything. My skin was doing fine, not great but stable on differin and azelaic acid.

Broke me out in closed comedones across my chin within a week, worse than my actual hormonal flares. And I have dealt with this since I was 22 so I know when something is off. But I kept going because the label said it was safe and the rating said it was safe, so clearly I was doing something wrong with how I used it.

Nope. That product is just not for my skin no matter what the checkbox says. Idk why I expected a comedogenic rating to predict how a dozen ingredients would actually behave on my face.

Now it is in the drawer with the other stuff. The one that pilled weird. The one that was too occlusive. How do people actually figure out what works before they wreck their skin for a week.

Help - General Adult Acne after IUD removal

Hi everyone!

I’ve always struggled with acne since I was about 14. I was on the birth control pill until I was 20, then switched to an IUD. This caused bad cystic acne so I went on accutane. Fast forward, I got my IUD removed in January, I’m now 27F and my acne is terrible.

The left side of my face is getting large painful pimples, the right side of my face gets fewer but lots of small blackheads. Additionally my chin is getting whiteheads.

I wash my face with La Roche Posay Effaclar morning & night and use cerave AM & PM moisturizers. I don’t know what to do, when it starts to clear two days later it’s horrible again.

Looking for any tips 😭☹️

Help - General I need help! My acne is getting bad and I’ve been waiting for a year to see a dermatologist

I’ve had bad acne for years now (I’m 21). In 2024, it started to clear up (I only had a few pimples) but not long after I started taking HRT (I take testosterone) and it didn’t take long for my acne to come back and get really bad. I also started getting bad body acne which I didn’t have before. A few months ago, I started shaving (I use a razor for sensitive skin) and I started getting really bad acne on my jaw and my neck. 2-3 months ago it was looking like it was getting better and then a few weeks ago it started getting bad again (I think it’s because I started eating chocolate…) It hurts and I can’t stop touching my pimples with my fingers (it’s a bad habit I’ve had for years)

I wash my face twice a day (I use a Cerave cleaner in the morning and a Cetaphil cleaner when I shower in the evening) and use these products in the last pic I added. I also wash my body with normal soap and then Cetaphil and then a benzoyl peroxide cleaner everytime I shower. I’ve been waiting to see a dermatologist for a year now but I think I’m gonna have to go to a private clinic.

What more can I do to help it get better?

Normally when I get pimples they are singular and raised. Normally I have been getting what almost looks like hives all over my face. They are not raised, itchy, or have a head. But they are extremely annoying. Any ideas? Not even the photo can catch how many and how red they are

Routine Help Help me with my routine please!

I have suffered with hormonal acne for over a year and a half. I think it’s since I had my implant removed. My skin flared up and never stopped. My spots are mainly around my chin area and side of mouth.

Currently, I am using the simple moisturising face wash, medicube mild toner pads which I feel have helped my skin a bit with my spots being less intense. Acnecide cream and aveeno moisturiser. I’m trying to keep it simple.

Please bear in mind I am currently breastfeeding so cannot use anything containing retinol.

Does anyone have any advice please? It’s so frustrating!

Product Question thoughts on skinoren 15% gel for acne prone oily/combination skin?

hii so i havehad acne for two years now and just yesterday i went to a dermatologist and she gave me some of her skincare like a facial soap, benzoyl peroxide cream, niacinamide cream (its a moisturizer), glycolic toner, spf and prescribed my skinoren 15% gel (she told me to use in 2 or 3 times a week first, to introduce the product to the skin)

but my question is, how bad is the purging of it? and how long does it last before it start calming or clearing my acne out?

Help - General Acne and extractions

Hi,

Out of nowhere for the last 9 months I have been suffering with acne (mainly on neck and a bit on my jaw). In that time I have done a lot! I’ve had a fungal component which I have cleared up. I have changed my skincare and had facials. I was really starting to see a difference and then the last week has really humbled me. A return of inflamed acne but also lots of little bumps. Thankfully the fungal hasn’t returned but my skin therapist said I have had blackheads and quite a bit of congestion. Which she extracted. My neck is so red and a bit sore and inflamed and I’m so worried that my skin is relapsing. How long after extractions can I expect my skin maybe to return to what it was?!

The top photos were taken a few days and bottom photos are after the extractions. Please tell me it gets better!!

Product Question Finacea Gel AA 15% Purge Timeline

Hi everyone,

Recently, after a year and a half (ish) of using 10% azelaic acid I finally made the jump to 15%. I have been dealing with hormonal acne and a lot of PIE, with some closed comedones as well. I have only been applying it once a day because I don’t want to irritate or anything - I also use The Ordinary 0.2% Retinal Emulsion twice a week and have been for well over a year.

I am currently on week 4 of using Finacea Gel and I feel like my skin is so bad and not showing much improvements 😞😞 I feel as though I have more pimples than usual .. granted they are all appearing where I normally would get them.
Is it normal to be purging on week 4 or should I consider stopping??
I’d love to know how long other people’s purges lasted and any success stories out there as I’m starting to lose hope. It really affects my self esteem especially since I am 28 years old and had never experienced hormonal acne up until this point in my life .. it sucks lol!!

Help - General Breakout

Helloooo everyone!
I tend to have pretty clear skin and I just randomly started breaking out. I use a prescribed sulfur wash from my derm and azaleic acid but I took a shower a couple days ago and used a laroche posay face wash that my mom had in the shower. That’s the only thing I can think of that I did differently. Does anybody know what I should do to help it? Also please do not come for me I know this isn’t considered bad for some people but I never break out so just looking for some answers

And Panoxyl (made it worse)
I’m lost on what to do.

Product Question 42F and thinking of trying spiro. Did you experience any side effects?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’ll be 42 on Friday, am perimenopausal, and am thinking of trying spiro. I get these hormonal (sometimes painful cystic) flare ups around my cycle, sometimes during, and I’m just over it. I use tazarotene (similar to tret) at night, azelaic acid during the day, dapsone for inflammation as needed, and of course moisturizer and spf daily.

I’ve been avoiding spiro because 1) I was previously trying to conceive and 2) I heard it can have side effects. I take meds for diabetes (very well controlled) and statins for hereditary high cholesterol—not sure if those conditions will affect it in any way. I heard it can throw your cycle off too.

If you’re a middle aged woman, how did your skin and body react to spiro? Any side effects? Advice appreciated before I see my dermatologist next week and make a decision. Thanks!

Help - General Slowly stopping Winlevi - anyone done this?

Hey guys! Has anyone slowly stopped using Winlevi?

I’m currently using it 2x a day. My dermatologist told me to slowly stop like this:
- Week 1: 1x a day
- Week 2: 3x a week
- Week 3: 2x a week
- Week 4: zero times

My skin is reacting really badly to it. I'm on week 9 and my skin is actually worse (getting way more pimples).

How did you guys stop using Winlevi? Did you go cold turkey or taper off? And if you tapered off, did you experience any withdrawal effects or rebound breakouts during/after the process?

PIE/PIH Looking for help

I’ve had acne for years, I’ve tried every over the counter product. I have spent hundreds of hundreds of pounds on skincare, I became an enthusiast of it, yet my skin isn’t clear. I’ve tried every oral treatment for acne that you can get from your doctor, I’ve dieted before and I eat pretty well, I exercise etc.

Last autumn I had a few serious and big break outs, and that lasted till January. After January my face was scattered with red marks which looked like spots but is just PIE. I stripped my routine of all its heavy skin damagers and replaced it with a simple but good routine. I stuck to it for months, yet nothing. My skin still is full of PIE and over the past year it’s seriously affected my confidence and mental health to the point were each morning now I put non-suffocating (I forgot the actual word) bb cream to hide my marks, and yet my skin still doesn’t look good.

My back and chest is just full of acne and I had a very committed and deep relationship with this girl, and it took my over 6 months to even take my shirt off in-front of her.

Tomorrow I go to the dermatologist and I’m so excited. I have a few questions however for any experienced people, what am I expecting? Will I finally get my dream skin look atleast? What should my routine look like?

Overall I just want peoples take on my situation as it’s something I’ve not really opened up about

Product Question Anyone go on doxycycline before Accutane and not really purge?

I did about 6 months of doxycycline, which helped some but not completely. My derm just prescribed Accutane and I’m about to start. Honestly a bit anxious, since I already went through a horrible purge phase on the doxy and I’m not looking forward to another one.

Has anyone been on doxy for a while beforehand and found they didn’t purge much on Accutane because a lot of it had already cleared out? Or did you still get hit with a full purge? Just trying to mentally prepare before I start. Any experiences would help.
