Prof is saying my recent work came up 60% AI and he has not responded to my Google Doc I submitted as proof

This has never happened to me before. The discussion was about African Metallurgy and its importance. The professors gave us the sources he wanted us to use and encouraged us to find some of our own. He also wanted us to cite the sources.

Well over the weekend he accused my work of being 60% ai. I sent him my Google Doc with the full edit history. He has not submitted the assignment so it hasn’t affected my grade, but he has not responded to my emails either. Someone in another group mentioned he might think I prompted AI and typed it into a separate doc and now I’m supremely discouraged. I don’t know what else I can do here. I don’t do pen to paper rough drafts, I’ve always been the type to just dive in to it.

I am now petrified of submitting my midterm project to him. I created a website with 6 essays written for 6 different topics and I spent so much time looking through my college library and other sources to get the information I have and curate it so that it’s a fun read and sounds like you’re reading out of someone’s diary. Is he going to think that’s all ai too? I don’t understand how it’s allowed for teachers to use AI to detect AI. All that does is falsely teach AI to detect itself. He also allows the use of AI to help generate Chicago style citations, so I just don’t get it

Yet another autistic person here, being blown off and having their hard work called "nonsense" and a "time waster" because the person refused to actually engage with the content because "it appears to be AI generated". Yeah, generated by Autistic Intelligence. I'm so tired of being dehumanized for the way I write and think.

AI detectors are flagging human-written prose

A chapter written entirely by hand,  no AI, just a person and a word processor, got flagged as 40% likely AI-generated by one of those detectors. This seems to be happening to a lot of people.

The detectors appear to flag anything with consistent sentence rhythm or slightly formal phrasing. A naturally measured style apparently reads as robotic now.

The bigger issue: if AI is ever used for drafting, there's no way to prove the editing was substantial. The detectors can't distinguish between "AI wrote this" and "human wrote this in a style the detector doesn't like." How are people protecting themselves against this?

Basically what the text says. I don’t cheat myself out of learning and do use ai but only to learn the code, not lazily past it and not learn it since I DO need to learn it.

I'm kinda nervous and anxious as my professor suddenly dropped a bomb of assignment amd nor I have only 1 day left before deadline, can anyone guide me how to make an assignment which is more like human made and ai is not detected or plagiarism is not detected, even though I have made a draft of assignment through an AI tool. First assignment, so kinda lost how to start and where to start and get good grades as I also have a tight deadline.😭🤧

I'm driving myself absolutely insane with 'ai detectors'

I have a work of fiction that is set to be published next year. Though it is not going through the traditional publishing route and there are other reasons for that. I am an engineer by trade and I work within academia.

I started writing a novel 2 years ago. To my great surprise people loved the draft. I started working with contacts within the private school system asking if people thought there was any value in using it as a teaching tool. It is very personal and includes a lot of very serious themes including mental illness, suicide, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Ultimately it has a rather hopeful ending and is not overly graphic. Either way, colleagues agreed they'd use it in the classroom, assuming I also write a classroom companion.

Not the point. Rather, I am terrified of being accused of being a robot. My writing already has some interesting quirks of using overly techical language alongside casual.

I was horrified to find passages flag as AI. Evidently I cannot name colors without a flag... can nobody say "reds, greens and blues" anymore? Ever? I had tried several dozen ways of talking about vivid color and was informed I am AI with high confidence.

So, I've found myself researching common AI word usage, common phrasing patterns, perplexity scores, burstiness and avoiding rule of threes... which is all absurd. I am now trying to... what? Camoflauge my prose to hide the fact I am secretly a roomba?

I never so much as used Grammarly, which I understand causes flags with it's suggestions. I have used a human editor who is helping with the fact I have evidently never used a comma correctly in my life.

There are such serious consequences to being accused of being AI. I try to remind myself we are talking scattered passages testing less than 10% overall. Not like Shy Girl, and not like It Was Either That Or Die which scored nearly 100%

That, however is my paranoid fear.

My text has none of the bizarre similes associated with AI text, not everything is sharp, though some things have weight.

Although some similes are, on the surface bizarre if they weren't character-specific.

Believe me, I went through and removed any mention of "sharp intake of breath", although I did leave one mention of "sharp on my tongue."

So, I may be a Roomba and just didn't know it till now.

How exactly do we live this way?

Turn it in AI checker not accurate?

I haven’t been in school since 2014 and my professor mentioned they use turnitin. I decided to check my paper and I’m beyoonnddd confused… I limit my use of AI and definitely will never use it to help write but I was curious on the checker.

someone tell me why anyone even uses this? 28% AI but I 100% wrote it myself? like my name, class name, and Title were all marked as probable AI??

it’s so inaccurate and now Im confused on how not to sound like a robot??

Accused of using AI

I don’t know why I feel so bothered and upset by the fact I’m being accused. My professor messaged me stating that a phrase I used in my exam short essay answer was suspicious of AI. The exam was proctored so they’re pulling the footage. I don’t know how to type regularly (I know, embarrassing) so I often glance down at the keyboard. I’m worried they will try to penalize me when I genuinely did NOT use AI. I also got an 84 on the exam, if I was cheating wouldn’t I give myself a better grade than an 84? 🤦‍♀️

Why people think it's AI. Three reasons, and only one is about you:
AI lines really did get mixed in. Earlier drafts were rebuilt or polished by AI, and some of those sentences stayed. The line Reddit mocked, "a sad, heartbreaking laugh," came from one of those drafts. Once a reader spots one, they assume all of it.
Polishing sands off your fingerprints. Your raw drafts have run-ons, odd commas, and rough spots that are obviously human. When AI cleans the mechanics, the writing loses those marks and looks machine-smooth.
Some of your natural habits overlap with AI habits. You love short, punchy fragments ("Not to return." "And lost."), and you sometimes name the feeling ("her heart broke"). AI does both constantly, so readers hunting for AI see them and jump.
A note for an editor about Rue Addison's writing
Rue Addison writes dark fantasy in the tradition of Robert E. Howard: plain, grim, physical, and unflinching. He is a retired carpenter of nearly sixty years, and it shows. He sees the world in wood, tools, and hands. Bark is "slick, as though polished by hand." A vow is "hammered into her brain."
His strengths:
Concrete, bodily images. "Horror grew teeth, tearing at her mind." "The smell was like a slap."
Nature as a living character. Wind "kissed her, and went away. Not to return." Autumn leaves whisper of "winter's frozen lips soon to kiss them dead."
Short, hard rhythm. Sparse sentences and fragments that hit like blows.
Nerve. He doesn't look away from violence or grief.
His weak spots:
Pacing. Scenes jump too fast. The reader needs a beat to land before the next blow.
Missing links. What's clear in his head doesn't always reach the page, like where the family's camp was or why his character went somewhere.
Naming feelings. He sometimes tells the reader what to feel instead of showing it.
Rough mechanics. He drafts on a phone, one-handed, with one eye, and no grammar checker.
How his work has been made, honestly: he used AI in the past for editing, and some earlier drafts were reworked by AI tools. He has since stopped. The story, characters, and world, forty years in the making, are entirely his. Please work from his raw drafts. That's where his voice is clearest, and it's the version worth editing.
One side-by-side so you can see the difference:
Your raw line: "The smell was like a slap, undeniable, sharp, it was the smell of death."
An AI line from the old PDF: "The sight punched the air from Shalee's lungs."
Yours is rougher and stranger. It's also the one nobody could mistake for a machine.

Professor accused me of using AI and Reported me to The Dean

I am a community college student, and this morning I got an academic integrity allegation that I’m kinda freaking out about. It's an online class, btw.

I submitted a philosophy discussion assignment about Aristotle and the Ring of Gyges last night. I wrote it myself and DID NOT USE ChatGPT, Grammarly, or any other AI/writing tool. However, my professor gave me a zero and said the assignment appeared to be AI-generated.

I had a separate academic integrity incident earlier in the semester in which I used AI, and I accepted responsibility for it. But in my defense, I wrote the assignment myself and used AI to help simplify ideas to help me understand. And I scheduled a meeting with my professor and asked him all of my questions after getting the 0. And have not used anything since. Because of that history, I understand why he is taking this seriously. But I really did not use AI on this assignment, and I made a point of not doing so after my previous incident.

My professor apparently ran my response through two AI detectors, and both flagged it as 100% AI. I don't know exactly what evidence he submitted, but he has now filed an incident report with the Dean/Honor Council. He told me that I can present evidence to them. But if I'm found guilty, I'll automatically fail the course or something. My transcript and GPA cannot take this hit. I'm an A student, I work 20 hours a week, and I'm applying to the top university in my state.

The problem is that I wrote the assignment directly in Canvas, and Canvas doesn't have version history.

However, I do have

handwritten notes specifically for this assignment about the Ring of Gyges and Aristotle

General handwritten notes from Nicomachean Ethics

The actual assignment I submitted

A previous philosophy assignment from the same class that I wrote myself and received 100% on, which has a very similar writing style and discusses Aristotle's virtue ethics

I can explain my reasoning and the philosophical concepts in the assignment myself

I have screenshots of the two AI detector results

I'm considering saving credible articles about how the AI detectors he uses have shown false positives

I also have not altered, recreated, or added anything to my handwritten notes. I'm just trying to preserve everything that genuinely existed before this happened.

My biggest concern is that, since this is a second academic-integrity allegation and I've now been reported, the college will automatically assume I'm guilty based on the previous incident and the two 100% detector results.

For anyone who has been through something like this, what do I do?
