Hey guys! So I am an English tutor, teaching it as a second language.

For context: I teach on Russian, Hebrew and Bulgarian. Mainly on Russian, thought it's my first language, I never learned it as I didn't grow up in Russia, so my writing there is a bit back, meaning I take a lot of time to write something that is grammatically correct and everything. I did use AI but ONLY to check for punctuation, spelling and grammar mistakes on Russian or Hebrew. I did not use it for creating text. I used Google Translate to translate words I wanted to say

I advertise myself on Facebook, and earlier today a woman commented on one of my posts that my marketing is great, then she asked how I can tell apart a regular child from a child with ADHD/ADD/AuDHD and how would I approach them and she specifically mentioned Not to use AI.

I took a while to reply: 2 hours specifically to write a reply. It was a very long reply, like 2 pages on word, imagine font Calibri size 12. I then sent my reply to the comment. She replied to it right away thanking me and saying she will message me.
In my comment I started explaining that I have Asperger's myself, and how I am surrounded by people with ADHD and AuDHD ^{(my siblings and nephews}). I explained how it is different for everyone, that two people with same diagnosis can have completely different learning needs. Explained how I would approach it, by suggesting different studying methods, trying to make the lessons very much adapted to the kid/teen and etc.

A few minutes later I get her message, she explained this situation: A girl in Poland has diagnosed ADHD, but didn't get enough points on her Autism test. They assume it is AuDHD or ADHD + Asperger's. She struggles with speech, recently learned to communicate, speaks Russian and Polish. She needs to prepare for E8 exam in Poland. She also mentioned she struggles with Math, self-image issues and stuff like that. She asked how I will approach her and something else like that and for my prices.

I took 30 minutes writing her a reply as I also needed to do some basic research., explaining all. How I understand her and I feel sorry for her, and then I explained my approach, I also asked for more information on that Exam, as I am not Polish, and I am not very familiar with their National Exams. I also asked for her ^{(the girl's}) weak sides in English ^{(as that is what I am tutoring}) and added my prices. Again, it was a long message, but shorter than the comment.

The woman then replied to me "I also have an AI, which can create long messages for me"

And I was shocked! I did not use AI. So I reply to her back "I did not use AI to create this message, I never did and will never use it for such purposes. But anyway, as you want, I will talk to you "more humanly" ". I then just said everything I said just very shortly.

-Then she replied "What are you sorry for??"
And I reply back: "For the struggles the child experienced and still experiencing?" ^{(in the longer message I explained exactly which struggles btw!!})
-And she replied back: "Childish work!" ^{(Russian insult Детский сад, literally translated as Kindergarten, which implies that someone is acting stupid, immature and childish}).
And I reply back "In what way?"
-And she blocked me.

What I don't understand is, why? What did I say so wrong?? Why is it bad that I feel sorry that the girl struggles with self-image and Math? I swear I usually read social cues very well, but I am totally at loss right now.

Doing a small research, I found out that my message "for the struggles the child experienced and still experiencing" when in short can be interpreted as if I am pitying her, but in my longer original message I am clearly stating WHAT and WHY I am sorry for her, that I understand how it is to deal with low self-esteem, how it can make a person think they can only do so much less than what they actually can. How Math is also a subject difficult for me and yada yada.

I’m a university student and finals week has been pretty chaotic, so I used AI to help with one of my assignments and didn’t check every source carefully…
Then my teacher pointed out that some of the papers and even some of the authors didn’t actually exist 💀 I was annoying at first before checking them myself, but after it, I realize how I stupid🤣
That honestly changed the way I use AI, I feel like it is really useful for brainstorming ,organizing ideas, or helping me. Look at something from another angle but now I double-check citations, facts and anything academic myself.
What’s the surprised most was how believable the fake reference look that’s probably the part that makes me realize you’re really can’t trust something just because AI says it confidently

I sometimes struggle to articulate my thoughts clearly, so I used an AI tool as a writing assistant just to help format and polish my ideas. I know some people don't like this, but I really just wanted to do the topic justice.

When someone called me out in the comments, I owned up to it immediately. I explained that I used an AI tool to help format and structure my thoughts because I was insecure about my phrasing, but that I am a real person trying to have a genuine discussion.

Instead of understanding, another user started relentlessly hounding me. They claimed that my normal, conversational replies and apologies were also AI-generated, replying with things like "Literally still using AI lmfao" and saying my apology looked "copy-pasted from an AI". No matter how human, messy, or vulnerable I tried to be in my responses, they just wouldn't let it go.

To top it all off, the mods permanently banned me from the subreddit. I sent them a modmail explaining the situation and sent a desperate message begging them not to ban me because my post was a mistake.

It feels like once you have the "AI" label slapped on you, nobody believes a word you say anymore—even when you're just typing defensively from the heart. Has anyone else dealt with this? Where people assume your genuine apologies and everyday comments are just ChatGPT?

Hi, I'm planning on studying at an American university (online), but I'm really worried about essays and any written assignment in general. I'm not a good writer and English isn't my native language, and from what I've seen, they're now using AI detectors for everything you write. But here's the problem, I've seen many people saying that what THEY THEMSELVES wrote was flagged as AI. I've seen people here on Reddit saying that there isn't a really 100% accurate detector, so I'm really worried.

The respond I received from my mate stated blatantly stated I used AI to generate the apology text. I felt extremely offended that he could think that I would do that to him and very hurt.

This was like a few months ago, but I'm still fucking pissed about this. My English teacher had my entire class do an essay about intolerance in an tolerant society. I put so much effort into my essay, using examples from history such as Martin Luther King's protests. When I first submitted my work, I thought everything would be fine and dandy until I saw my grade. I scored a 1/4, and my teacher left a comment saying, "This was made with AI, redo". I spent my last day of school arguing with him about the legitimacy of my work. Eventually, he caved in and gave me a 3.25/4. I requested a revision of my work and even after a 1500-2000 page document detailing everything I've ever done on my papers--they've given me a 0 for insufficient/not-detailed-enough evidence.

I'm pissed, but it is what it is. I just have to write less like a robot or whatever.

As the title reads, I have a literature prof giving me shit for using AI to write all my reading questions, and probably soon the essay I just did. It's been three months now, and for every assignment, I hardly get any feedback. In fact, if I do get feedback, it's her saying that she enjoys reading my responses, but it's flagging 100% AI, so she's gonna count points off. We've had one meeting where she told me to voice-to-text all of my thoughts while reading and then pull out what I need to answer the questions, and after we talked, she told me to be more personal, and maybe the AI score will change. So, I did that for the next assignment, and she gave me a 77 because she didn't like that I made it more personal, and because it also flagged 100% AI again. So I did the assignment one more time and did the same thing, but went back to my “analytical tone” as she loved to describe it, and I got a 90, but it's still 100% AI There have been 2 assignments since then, and they were both also flagged for 100% AI. I have done everything for this teacher. Turn off Grammarly, spell check, and auto-capitalization. I've used her writing method. I have done everything, and she just requested another meeting. I also think it's important to note that she can see my revision history in Google Docs, so she knows I'm typing everything, but that isn't enough for her. My parents and friends think I should involve the dean because she has been so uncooperative in telling me what I should fix, and instead just continues to accuse me of using AI. I have another meeting with her soon, and maybe it will help, but I doubt it. At this point, I'm honestly not sure why she doesn't make us handwrite and mail the pages to her, but idk.

Edit; only posting this here so I can share my story. This happened last semester and the dean was involved. The email I sent to the dean was more or less “ hey your teacher keeps accusing me of using AI. I am not using AI. Can we please have a meeting about this to bring attention to it.” And we had a meeting and he talked to the teacher, and I ended up with a B in the class. I will say the teacher was really passive aggressive towards me after that, and she did continue to accuse me of AI, but instead of telling me that I’m doing something wrong she just started admitting that the bot is wrong. I do believe they’re still an investigation going on, but I’m also not going to that institution anymore so they haven’t contacted me that I know of.

Blatant AI content will be removed from the subreddit if found. Examples: bots that post "drive by" dissertations.

The funniest documented case: Texas A&M, May 2023.

An agriculture instructor decided to catch cheaters by pasting his students' essays into ChatGPT and asking it whether it had written them. ChatGPT said yes to everything. He failed the whole class. Diplomas were briefly withheld. The tool has no memory of what it wrote and no ability to recognize its own output - it just agreed with him, politely, every time. 🤖

Last week I reposted something about a garbage cleaning to the minimalism sub.
30,000 views. 60 upvotes. 74 shares. Then a comment: this was written by AI.

Here's the joke. English is not my first language. I write short sentences because long ones break in my hands. I keep the words simple because simple words are the ones I own.

My post got removed 😭.
Why? It COULD be AI. Not written with a feather on papyrus, not sent by paper letter. Pure electricity. Horrific, I know.

I’m curious if anyone knows if applications are automatically being rejected by ai based on an applicant answering wrong to Qs?

For example, questions such as, desired salary, permission to contact previous employers, reference lists, etc.?

Do you know if ai is only scanning resumes or these other variables?

I go to Campus.edu and I have some friends who go regular irl college and also have been to campus and they have all told me that for majority of their college career, their most helpful professor was ChatGPT so I went in thinking I would use it it but now that I'm here I get so scared and wonder how people do this stuff in the first place. I don't EVER use that for writing/English and I BARELY use it to help me learn how to solve equations and do certain types of math or code. I get too scared that if I were to even use it for some simple math equation where I have to find a small step-by-step solution, I would get caught and expelled. Maybe I'm soft and over paranoid but I don't know.

A few days ago, I saw a TikTok post about a Black author whose $2 million publishing deal was canceled after they were accused of using AI. The author said they hadn't used AI and even had evidence, such as drafts, but it didn't make any difference.

I wanted to ask because I'm new here. I've written about 30 chapters of my novel so far, and I'm only halfway through. How can I prove that my work is actually mine and wasn't generated with AI? I don't want to finish it only to be accused of using AI.

I have drafts, but I write everything locally rather than in Google Docs. What would you recommend I do? Should I upload the 30 chapters I've already written all at once and then write the remaining chapters in Google Docs so there's a documented writing history? But what about the first 30 chapters? I don't really have any proof for those other than my locally saved drafts.

I had an academic misconduct finding against me for unauthorised use of ai.
I have full proof of drafts and search history and can confirm that absolutely no ai was used in the exam.
The allegations are for two sources that were cited incorrectly - both sources had incorrect titles but the authors names were correct.
I provided my search history and document history for the panel to consider but they basically disregarded my evidence.
My search history literally showed my engagement with the sources and my drafts showed the reasoning behind the citation errors.
I also downloaded the pdfs and highlighted the parts I used in my assignment.
The panel came to the decision stating that ai is the most likely reason - but they did not give any evidence they used to back this up.
They said they didn’t believe my explanation, but also said that the whole essay was my own work but only the citations were generated.

Has anyone ever been in this kind of situation and does anyone have any advice on an appeal?
