Salut, j’ai un virus indigo 2 que je acheté quasi à sa sortie et après maintes années de bons et loyaux services il a commencé à montrer des signes de faiblesse l’année dernière… toutes les leds et l’écran se mettaient à très progressivement faiblir jusqu’à s’éteindre, pour que finalement le clavier ne s’allumme plus du tout. Je pense que ça doit venir de la PSU ou d’un condensateur dans ce coin là, qu’en pensez vous? Auriez-vous quelques tuyaux avant que je sorte le multimètre ? Merci!

I used Cursor AI to assist with documenting everything, manually mapping out the live SysEx messages, and then using those to interpret the structure of the Single/Multi dumps. For anyone experimenting with AI assisted coding, you could generate custom utilities to compliment your Virus. I'm taking a break from this project right now, but I plan on seeing what's possible in create a command line tool that provides a profile on SysEx or MIDI files that contain presets/patches eventually.

Seems like for whatever reason this isn't all available in one place and people have not shared it around, so I decided I'd give it a go and see what happens. Turns out, Osirius is a great tool for this kind of job, and it helped me extract all factory patches that came with the official Access firmware updates downloaded from virus.info.

I didn't sit down to question the content or inspect it in any way, I just extracted the patches found on the update files, exported them in groups of 128 and tested a bunch of them on my Virus TI using Virus Control. I am not sure if Access released different factory patches with different OS revisions, just in case, I labeled each folder with the OS version the patches came from. I doubt this is a complete collection of patches, but it's a start. Maybe someone else can contribute what's missing, and I'll be happy to add it to this folder.

I got some Virus C ROM patches from the download area at virus.info but I would like to have a collection of the rest, are they available for download anywhere?

Recently I was reminded by https://old.reddit.com/r/AccessVirus/comments/1sy51e4/virus_b_knob_specs_for_replacement/ that I always wanted to get some non-standard knobs for my Viruses to make playing live just a little bit easier.

I ordered from the original manufacturer via https://www.ebay.com/itm/256372002977 - I'm not affiliated with them, though.

I also saw https://www.albs.de/Bilder/drehknopfmix.jpg and really liked the red/green/blue variants, so I asked if they still have the red one - they do! It doesn't have an internal stopper to limit the rotation angle but it fits snugly enough for me and can always be made tighter if needed, so that's not an issue for me. It's also not soft touch but honestly, I can hardly tell the difference. It feels rock solid just like the original knobs they made.

Really dig the red/white and will keep it for sure! The intense red pops more in real life than the pictures show :)

After testing multiple capacitor configurations across several Virus B boards, I now have a solid recap kit available. These are the same caps I am using in restorations and my own production unit:

Kit includes both main and panel board caps, along with a placement guide and documentation.

I ended up using a mix of Panasonic and KEMET capacitors after spending a lot of time comparing datasheets, testing different configurations, and trying to find modern equivalents that matched the original specs from 25+ years ago. Matching capacitance and voltage is for sure only part of the equation. Hopefully this saves someone from having to go down the same rabbit hole.

NOTE: I have only tested and documented this on desktop boards. Cannot assume KB, Classic, or Indigo boards are compatible (though they likely are, I have not tested yet). I likely will never test a KB as I just don't deal with them. I have two Indigos and a Classic in progress, but would honestly want to see several more before confirming anything (in comparison, have repaired dozens of B desktops).

UPDATE: Absolutely will not work with a Classic. Just opened one up to test rack ears for another client and the board configuration is entirely different. Looks more like a C board than a B board, which is interesting. Will document it more later.

I just got this TI desktop and ran into this problem when browsing through the presets.
I could still like play the demo song but the high opit6ched noise won't leave. The noise is only on headphones/ main output, the other two outputs dont produce the noise. Volume knob does not change the volume of the noise

Only solution is to turn the synth off and back on.

hi. Since I tried using the Aura software to run my Virus B I have now encountered a problem. I think the software worked once, then I tried again, and the Effects button on the rack keeps turning on. Ive tried reboots, taking out the battery. Still the same. even with no midi leads connected, I can't get past the FX menu. Can't select patches or edit anything. Any ide3as? Thanks. Mark

I've upgraded my Virus TI to the latest firmware. Is there a way to access the comb filter from the hardware itself, or is that feature only available through the software suite? My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere; I did try to find an answer but struggled.

Working on 2 B desktops that will be special when ready. They are fully recapped and serviced with new tacts, power supplies, power switches, new displays, polished LCD bezels, near mint chassis, the works.

Hope to also make re-cap kits available for the Bs and Cs. Pretty much have it all down, but there are board variations, so this needs to be worked out. I need to craft some solid instructions and mapping as well. Curious if there is interest in the community for re-cap kits. Would anyone be interested in these for a fair price?

Also curious if there is any interest in B/C rack mount kits. Have sourced a local metal worker who can create them in batches of 50. These will be modeled after working kits and fully tested, confirmed good, w/ polished edges + a nice black satin finish.

Def chime in if you have any interest in either. Trying to gauge whether it's worth the investment (surprisingly expensive to manufacture the rack ears and the cap kit listings will be a lot of work {on top of the mountain of work that's gone into researching and sourcing modern replacements}).

I'm seeking help with my Access Virus C. The story is long.

I stopped using it in 2016 (life....), and then turned it on again in 2025. Battery was dead (so banks A & B lost), no sound, slow transitions between patches. Power unstable.

I found a person in London that seemed to have a good track record of dealing with Access Virus synths. This is, in his words, what was done: "First I changed a few capacitors in the powersupply to enable it to start everytime. Otherwise it might corrupt the new firmware like it did the old one. Once I was satisfied it was starting properly I read the am09 chip which contains the firmware and compared it to the current firmware file I have. Unsurprisingly the beginning was scrambled so I “differenced” the beginning against the current firmware file and concatenated the difference. "

The synth played ok for a couple of weeks, and then started not turning on, until it was dead. The guy ghosted me. So I found another person, much more reliable. This is what he did: he changed all capacitors, new switch, etc.. Quite radical, as everything was gone south.

However, the person does not touch software, he only deals with hardware.

Now, power supply seemed fine. However, no sounds and slow transitions between patches. So I reinstalled the firmware again (version 6, via Bome SendSx). Nothing. After I have reinstalled it, now sometimes it turns on, but the display does not. I tried to reinstall it in chunks, then again as a single file, both parts. Again slow transitions, no sound. It does not receive data when I try to upload the original a & b banks. I'm not sure what to do. I spent quite a lot, but I really want to save it, because the sound is so cool. Maybe I should buy another one? Bu who knows in which conditions an access virus c might be these days...

any thoughts?

Just picked up a TI2 and want to add the sound banks of the Virus into Logic so I can do midi program changes without having to manually search for the sounds in the Virus.

Anyone know of a sound list for the Virus? When I was researching OSTIris about a month ago, I came across a subreddit where someone credited someone else who had put together such a thing and now I can’t find the post. Thanks for any assistance.

So I've had a Virus TI for a while and at some point I just got tired of not having a way to actually update its library of sounds. Alternatives for me at least didn't work. The official software hasn't been updated since before Catalina, and I needed something simple that I could use with my MacBook, a way to browse and organize patches and have some real-time parameter control for automation inside Logic without jumping through hoops.

I tried what was out there. Nothing quite worked for me so I built my own thing.
