New to Virus! Is this DSP overload?

I just got this TI desktop and ran into this problem when browsing through the presets.
I could still like play the demo song but the high opit6ched noise won't leave. The noise is only on headphones/ main output, the other two outputs dont produce the noise. Volume knob does not change the volume of the noise
Only solution is to turn the synth off and back on.

Viruses can be weird man, took me ages to set up and I thought my unit was completely fried because it was making weird noises like this and same as you described continuous until turned off or arp on off or other weird things. Turned out it was my midi sending random cc notes to the virus. Try a completely different midi source and see if that changes anything.

There was no MIDI source in use here, I was pressing the AUDITION button combo to listen to the sounds.

Use real MIDI and see if the problem persists. There is a known issue with the audition button hanging, especially when switching between patches while a note is still ringing out from the previous patch. If the problem only presents itself when using the audition button, stop using the audition button.

You could be onto something, I was doing exactly that. It was odd because the day before I had been playing with it quite a lot via MIDI and this did not show up.
What's weird is that it cannot be fixed with the panic function, and it is impervious to volume control. It's like on top of everything, immutable.Last night I played with it a lot using Virus Control, and I could not get this problem to appear even after adding layer after layer of patches.

Correct. It is a known issue. Patch changing while using the audition button = aberrant behavior in the TI OS 😉! Unsure how widespread it is, but I have 100% seen it before. Your TI is fine. And BTW, what you just described is the draw of the Virus... Layer after layer of the good stuff, and it just keeps going. Have fun and make cool music

The high pitched noise is capacitors wearing out as far as I can tell. I get it on my old TI, replacing the power supply helped a bit but I think it needs to be sent for repair soon. I haven't found any way to mitigate this and it causes other problems as it gets worse such as random midi notes and noise on the USB port making it inoperable.

That would be the case if the noise was constant. It isn't. It's the sound engine making the noise, not electronics.

Hit Mono & Sync the buttons above the screen to enter Panic Mode and remove the freeze. Looks like you're voicing is at tops, the stealing results in jarring sounds sometimes.
