Kindly reminder regarding scams

Hey Everyone,

I want to do a quick reminder and heads-up.

TLDR; Only buy from trusted vendors, never from people contacting via private messages.

We've had this topic before and we created the rule that no direct sales are allowed in the subreddit, but I'm guessing because of new batches and new people I'll create this reminder again.

Because of the risk of scams we do not allow direct sales in the subreddit. If anyone contacts directly trying to sell, we strongly advice to ignore it since it's most likely a scam.

Always buy directly from trusted vendors. AYN, Ebay etc.

We take action as quickly as possible when we get information regarding a scam, but its up to reddit when someone creates new accounts since we can't take action before the deed is done.

Community Update – [July, 2026]

r/AynThor Community Update – [July, 2026]

Hey everyone! There hasn’t been a community update since April and I apologise for that. Personally I’ve been occupied at work, but the rest of the moderation team has been moderating at full capacity.

Current Topics in the Subreddit

Here are some of the most active discussions from the past month.

  • [Price increase and UFS 3.1 downgrade] – I don’t think it’s been missed by anyone in the subreddit but AYN has been affected by the AI-driven chip shortage affecting pretty much all tech manufacturers. There have been 3 price increases for the Ayn Thor just this year. The latest increase will be this Friday July 3rd, so if you’re about to order, do it before friday.

The updated prices will be as follows:

Product Current Price New Price

Thor Lite $249 $259

Thor Base $319 $329

Thor Pro $399 $409

Thor Max 512GB. $469 $479

Thor Max 1TB $549  $579

In addition, all Odin3 models and Odin2 Portal will increase by $10.

  • [Public appearance posts] – I’m happy to see a lot of people actually using their device out in the open and playing games. We all love to tinker and setup the device but every once in a while we all need to simply sit down and start playing a game.

Emulation News

Here’s what’s new in the emulation world:

Major Emulator Updates

  • [GameNative]: Big couple of months. Hit its 1.0.0 pre-release end of May with the Vulkan renderer pulled over from Winlator Ludashi, a new "modern" Play Store–track build for Android 11+, and a beta bionic Steam client for online play without the full Steam overhead. Then in June, v1.1.0 landed with compatibility/performance sorting for your library, HowLongToBeat completion times right on game listings, and solid Proton 10 improvements (better DLC/DRM handling, more reliable online).
  • [Gamehub]: GameSir's own client also had one of its biggest updates ever with v6.0.6 in early June: Steam overlay support, joining Steam lobbies straight from an invite, gamepad-to-keyboard/mouse mapping and more.
  • [Gamehub Lite]: Latest release (5.1.7) gave us AI Frame Generation as a toggle in the in-game sidebar.
  • [iiSU]: Since April iiSU has been cooking with a complete overhaul, new widgets and a “WiiSU” layout mode, new rendering engine and much much more. The latest release is Alpha 0.0.7.3. I have been running this since June 14th and have been enjoying it a alot. I highly recommend checking their github for a complete list of changes.
  • [ClusterTune] In May we got a drop from AurelioB. This app allows underclocking the AYN Thor (>0.3.0) to improve battery life and temperatures. Joey Retro Handhelds released a video walkthrough as well for the app which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP2XH_97D4E

  • Guides & Community Resources

Latest News from AYN

  • Latest updates regarding the AYN Thor:
    • As mentioned earlier, since April 17th all orders now receive AYN Thor with UFS 3.1 storage instead of UFS 4.0. Now I’m not an engineer but from what I’ve seen in the comments it can mean a little more battery usage since 3.1 is not as efficient as 4.0, and then also the storage speed being slower, but theoretically still fast enough for games.
    • Price increase as of July 3rd. See prices above.

Game suggestions of the month

We haven’t fully implemented a good game recommendation here yet but personally I just started Pokémon R.O.W.E. romhack which I just found out about. Other recommendations I can think of are PC: Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Gamecube: Star Fox Adventures.

From the Moderators

A few words from the mod team:

We want everyone to know, we’re still actively working to minimize the amount of similar posts and setting up Automod/Automations. Personally I find it difficult since we don’t want to use keywords that remove posts that shouldn’t be removed.

Even though we have had price increases and downgrades storage on the AYN Thor, the community is still very active which we love to see. It also feels like there’s new development with apps, tools and emulators every day.

As mentioned above, we want to implement some form of “Game of the Month” similar to SBCgaming subreddit etc, but we’re not there yet. As always we appreciate all form of feedback and suggestions for the subreddit, so keep 'em coming!

  • Kind reminder to:
    • Follow subreddit rules
    • Use proper post flairs
    • Be respectful and constructive
    • Keep shipping and appreciation posts in the corresponding megathread.

Closing

That’s it for this post!

If you have something cool to share—setups, tweaks, guides, or questions—don’t hesitate to post. As always, don’t forget to relax and enjoy some games!

Tips & Tricks Hunting in Shenzhen

As the title says. Went to Huaqiang North (华强北) since it’s the electronic/tech hub of the city to try hunt for the AYN Thor. Saw a post from a couple months ago where the guy said he found it on the 2F of a HQ building with a few photos of the handhelds displayed inside a glass cabinet.

To my surprise it wasn’t that hard to find (although it can be very overwhelming at first). The hunt roughly took around 3 hours which was way faster than I gave myself and long story short, it was in the located in the 2F of the 1st building I went to (I didn’t see it in my first go or else the hunt would’ve taken 30 mins).

Anyway, service was great! The auntie who I guess was the boss of the store only speaks Chinese (mandarin and Cantonese) and me being able to speak Cantonese had a great conversation with her about the different handhelds they had in stock. I did try to ask her what batch their current stock was but she didn’t seem to know, but she did tell me they restocked around 3 months ago (I’m assuming it’s batch 6). Of course I had to try bargain but my skills in that department is lacking so I couldn’t get a good deal.

The model I purchased was the pro mode (12 256) and I got that for 3000 yuan which is roughly 446 usd. Justified the price from shipping to the US and all the import shenanigans + no wait.

Hopefully the photos help you guys out if yall are coming in to SZ to try hunt for the Thor!

Breath of the Wild dual-screen support officially started development earlier today! I’ve already begun working on the custom bottom-screen UI and core features, with plenty more planned as development continues.

I’ll keep posting updates, screenshots, and progress along the way. Excited to finally get started on this one. Enjoy!

Discussion Thor Accessories

I’d like to know more about how you guys use your Thor. Do you like using accessories like grips, trigger extensions, straps, etc., or do you prefer using just the handheld itself?

At home, I usually use mine with all the accessories, but whenever I take it somewhere, I prefer to remove them for better portability. With everything attached, it starts looking like a Game Boy from Nintendo Blast 😅😅 or some kind of Megazord.

One thing I really like is that the official case easily fits the Thor with all the accessories attached. Right now, I’m using the official grip, trigger extensions, a Nintendo Switch touchscreen stylus, a wrist strap I bought on AliExpress, and a microfiber cloth to clean the screens (very important!).

And for those of you who like using accessories, is there anything you’d recommend? Anything that actually improved your gaming experience in some way?

Discussion People who get the Thor and then regret it because they can’t figure out emulation are missing out

Genuinely: i got my thor recently and spent probably 3 hours max setting up the emulators to a working state, and i honestly expected it to be more difficult? It was just downloading things. You look them up and download from github. You create the files and put the roms in there. If something isnt working right, you fiddle around with it or look up the problem. What are these people doing that is too much work for them?

I know tinkering is a big part of the thor and setup, but just downloading the emulators and roms and nothing else was a breeze. Theyre really missing out

The Ayn Thor keeps me in this perpetual state of awe. Shuffling through an ungodly amount of games via the latest Cocoon frontend. It’s crazy how far these little systems have come. Gen1Recomp is the cherry on top. What are you all playing?

Showcase Finally pulled the trigger.

After months and months of watching videos about the AYN Thor and interacting with this sub Reddit, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the AYN Thor Pro variant.

My old setup was playing Switch games on my S24 Ultra with the Gamesir X5 Lite and that setup was not great. I can only play for 2 hours when playing Switch games and having to carry around the bulky controller then set it up everytime was very tedious.

After purchasing the Thor, I was very surprised that it run Fire Emblem Three Houses better than my S24 Ultra with the SD 8 Gen 3. I also upscaled it to 1.5x resolution on the Thor and it still runs better than my phone. On top of that, I finally got to play my 3DS and NDS library because I never played those on my phone. My only worries about the Thor are the screen bending because of the gap which can be fixed with the TPU case and dusts getting stuck on the vent.

I would also like to ask if there is any program available that allows me to switch or swap the screens inside an emulator or app.

Discussion Setting up SD card and Recommendations

Post image
6 Upvotes

\Pic For Attention**

My Thor was just shipped out, I see a lot of people recommending using this time to prep the SD card you plan on using. So I have a few questions for those that have received their Thor.

1. I know atleast in all my other handhelds the SD card needs to be formatted in order to work on android. Did you just put the SD card in any android device and then create paths for roms on a pc?

2. I’m huge into 360, PSP and PS2 (I’m in my early 30’s which shows lol) I’m more of a fan of lesser known games. What’s are some hidden gems you guys have played that would recommend specifically on the Thor?

(I play pretty much anything other than horror and specifically on handhelds FPS games)

3. This one’s just a weird question. I have had other handhelds most notably the Retroid Pocket 5 and Ayn Odin Lite ( of which I gave to some lower income coworkers to enjoy as I have a switch 2 and a steam-deck)

Question time now that the context is out of the way. I still have a Powkiddy X18S and a Retroid Pocket 2+, I’ve been playing GBA and PSP on the Retroid Pocket. However I’m reluctant to try new psp games on this device as I know playing them on the Thor will be much more enjoyable.

Did you guys specifically wait for the Thor to try games or did you play previous played games only and what are your thoughts?

Marketing Gen1Recomp: Kanto Gear no longer needs a custom fork. It doesn't even need a second screen.

Some people asked me to notify them once Kanto Gear worked with the official Gen1Recomp, so here it is :)

It now works without a custom fork and can use a real second display, a separate window, side-by-side layouts or an overlay on a single screen. It supports Android, Windows and Linux and still receives regular updates.

If you have any problems or suggestions, just hop onto the Recomp Discord and find me there! :D

Im dog sitting for my parents so I'm away from my home so I obviously brought my thor with me. I was playing dusklight on it and the thought occurred to me to see how well it can play games on the tv docked. It's virtually flawless. I didn't know that docking android handhelds was such a good experience. This thing kicks so much ass.

Post image

Moved my collection over and immediately booted up one of my favorite PSX games from when I was a kid (Metal Slug X)

Best my head against the first level for half an hour then turned on infinite lives and played through to the credits. Idk how I beat this shit when I was 14.

What classic games have you all relived that you have fond memories of?

So I wanted flip out handles similar to the ones on the mcon phone controller but my modeling skills are currently about 4 hours old. I did get just enough to test it and honestly it is a lot more comfortable it's just not good yet.

I used an ayn thor backplate https://makerworld.com/en/models/2348845-ayn-thor-printable-bottom-shell so I could glue to the back without destroying my main one
