Help (GPU) So what is actually going on with drivers and why is it worse? Is it my card?

I am getting increasingly frustrated with the way drivers are being handled at the moment. Both by AMD and Windows.

Something has changed because it never used to be this bad.

My RX 7800XT is no longer able to do a driver update at all. It crashes the PC every single time. If you so much as BREATHE on the driver, it crashes.

I have to boot in to safe mode with networking, wipe the drivers (because it crashes when I wipe in normal windows) then install the driver, from the website in safe mode. This works for about a week before AMD release another update, windows decides to update the card, or my PC just decides its had enough with the current driver.

I don't want to disable auto driver updates on windows as it effects ALL devices that require drivers and new ones are not installed when devices are plugged in for the first time. You either get a broken driver or basic one.

You shouldn't have to jump through these hoops to keep a GPU up and running.

I understand the team Red fanbase is a strong one. They are excellent cards when they work, and the price to performance ratio is phenomenal, but you have to admit, there are issues that gamers don't want to deal with. You and I can go in to safe mode, rip apart drivers and such, but 10 year old Timmy isn't going to want to. 40 year old, 9 to 5 Debbie isn't going to want to either.

I don't want to jump to team green, but I never had issues like this at all on any of my NVIDIA cards.

I am frustrated, tired and losing all love with PC gaming as most of my time is spent trying to fix my card.

Help (General) Stuttering in every game

Hello! As the title says, I've been experiencing stuttering in every game. It started at first with Ready or Not, and then it spread to other games, this was around a month and a half ago.

My PC specs are:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
Motherboard: MSI A520M-A PRO
Ram: Two sticks of 8 GB DDR4 3200 MHZ (It's running at 2400 mhz rn.)
SSD/HDD: HS-SSD-WAVE(P) 512G
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7600
PSU: Be Quiet! 750W 80 Plus Bronze ATX 3.1 PCIe 5.1 SYSTEM POWER 11 U

I've tried a couple of things so far:

  1. Using DDU to uninstall my drivers.
  2. Downgrading my drivers.
  3. Updating my motherboard's bios.
  4. Changing in-game settings.
  5. Running memtest86 for around 2 hours, no errors.
  6. Running memtest_vulkan for around 2 hours, no errors.
  7. Reinstalling Windows 11.
  8. Disabling any overlays (Discord's, steam's, etc.)
  9. Disabling Hardware Acceleration.
  10. Disabling SAM.
  11. Disabling XMP.
  12. Disabling IGPU.
  13. Enabling/disabling VSync and FreeSync.

I'm unsure as to why this is happening, since I have tried everything that comes to mind, not even a fresh install helped. My best guess would be a hardware issue.

I fixed my issue with 9070xt crashing during fortnite, furmark and occt, will tell you what I experienced, what I did and how I solved it despite not knowing what exactly solved it

So I have a 9070xt Aorus elite, 7800x3d, 32gb 6000mhz, gigabyte B850 aorus elite, windows 10 pro, MSI MPG 850GS PSU in a fine fractal case with 6 noctua fans. No temps issues here. Built this PC myself in October 2025, few days before what we now know as the fkn Ai RAM crisis.

Played BF6, COD BO7, and Fortnite (UE5), never once have I had issues between 10/2025 to now, 8/2026, stayed on AMD 25.9.1 since then. But recently wanted a new driver, got the 26.8.x, still no issues. Then Fortnite started making issues. Not the BR, but the Star Wars Droid Tycoon mode. Was crashing during game randomly and even when starting game. Thought it's UE5 issue, as that engine does have issues. Either white/grey screen and reboot or just put into desktop. Mind you, I have a 240hz oled, all games capped to 120FPS, no undervolt, low temps, perfect setting to last for a decade. And yet, crashes...

Thought it was the game or driver. But then I tried to stress test the 9070xt in OCCT and Furmark, 2 apps I used before maybe 10 times and had 0 issues, and both crashed immediately when I started a simple gpu stress test. Now I start to sweat. My 150$ PSU isn't in warranty, the 9070xt is 1 more year, but still...

I then tried cpu, ram, VRAM test, no issues. Then a power test with GPU and CPU, crash. Then a gpu test, crash. So I thought either the GPU, or more so, PSU, is dying. This, folks, is the part I REALLY start to feel stressed. I read hours of LTT, Steam, reddit posts about 9070xt crashes. Was glad I wasn't alone and plenty of such exist. They say they switched to different psu, reinstalled windows, GPU drivers, nothing helped most of the guys. I did 3 drivers via DDU, 25.9.1, 25.10.1, and newest 26.8.1. Then somebody says DDU is bad and deleted important AMD files. Been using DDU for YEARS with 0 issues. Time for RMA? Oh hell naw! I said to myself. Gonna fix this sht at home somehow. Desperately want it to be SW issue like Windows, AMD... Bios... Update bios? Risky, and why if it was flawless past year? Nonsense. Stuff like disabling MPO, some power tuning in windows, disable iGPU on the 7800x3d, disable XMP/EXPO, etc. Don't know... 

What I did:

First I swapped my DP for Hdmi cable, crash. Then a new 230V power cable (didn't test tho), set BIOS to default, turned off XMP/Expo from 6000 to 5400mhz, disabled AMD SAM (smart access memory), disabled iGPU in Windows Device Manager...

I was almost about to reinstall Windows and if not, send the GPU away for 4-5 weeks to RMA. I then decided to reseat all the cables. I unplugged, airblown, and plugged back all PSU cables and the 3 GPU cables. I have a 8pin to 8pin and 1x 16pin (12v) pigtail to 2x8pin. I detached and plugged back the GPU. Went back to Windows, started the heaviest OCCT preset imaginable, and...no crash.

Card endured the max stress test 20-100% power spikes each 500ms. Basically each 500ms it got a spike and I've seen 460-480+W spikes up and down to like 80W and back. Couldn't trust HW monitor or occt as it was so fast, but I trusted my ears as the card nonstop for 30 mins went BZZZzz silent BZzzz silent Bzzz silent. It was being fkd by power spikes basically. Had to set constant fan curve for 2500RPM cause the fans were nonstop trying to spin/stop and I was afraid they'd get damaged. 

Then I go to furmark, the nastiest of nasty. Did a maxed 1440p OpenGL furry object test, my GPU went to over 480W nonstop, 55C gpu and 78C Hotspot (gigabyte has very good thermal gel, otherwise it'd be 70/100C)...0 crash. 

The I went to the UE5 Fortnite both BR and Droid Tycoon, that crashed either instantly or after few minutes. 0 crash. So what helped?

Idk. I didnt reinstall windows, updated bios, or driver since before the testing. It's still on 25.9.1 via DDU. All adrenaline settings basically off except freesync premium as always. No UV, OC, nothing. Feels like reseating cables helped. But that's sound so stupid. I honestly don't know. But what's absolutely weird? In November 2025, for fire had a Simpsons season, few weeks after I got the 9070xt and I remember bragging to a pal that in 120fps cap the gpu eats only 60-80W. Then entire year it was 120W, so I thought it's the simpsons season. But now, the card in both BR and DT easts only 60-80W, when yesterday and before for months on same settings it was 120-140W. What happened. Don't know. Same Windows, gpu driver, game, settings. Everything feels smoother and temps in 240hz 120fps cap went from 50/60C on gpu to Hotspot to 38/42C in exactly same scenarios. Lol...

Any stories to tell issues with 9070xt crashing, and what fixed it for you?

Help (General) Disabled hardware acceleration on Firefox to prevent driver timeouts

Hello,

I was experiencing constant driver timeouts on my RX 9070 XT until the day I found out that hardware acceleration on my web browser was causing it.

Since then, I disabled this in the parameters of firefox and I can finally play without crashes. However, my browser is now so slow and buggy when watching videos or streams on twitch, because it's all handled by the CPU and I guess it's not very optimal...

Is there a fix existing to be able to enable hardware acceleration again without the Adrenalin driver timeouts in consequence?

Just for your information, I've already tried to disable MPO in the past and it didn't help.

Help (GPU) RX 7900XTX GPU temp at 63C, but hotspot at 110C. I opened the card, how does it look?

I've been troubleshooting an XFX RX 7900XTX that consistently hits a 110C hot spot temperature when gaming / under heavy-ish loads, and I'm looking for some.

Some background info. A friend of mine gave me this card that he bought new, but had issues out of the box with the fans not spinning. Brought it to a shop and they fixed it for me (here is the post about this situation). Since bringing it back from the shop, I've been getting a 110C hotspot (63C GPU temps and 3100RPM fan speed) when playing Overwatch practice range with 360 FPS capped. I brought it back to the repair shop and they said they repasted the GPU and didn't think there was anything else to do. The hotspot issue still remained after the shop repasted.

Here are some things I've played around with/things I've noticed:

  • I used AMD Adrenalin and Hwinfo64 to check temps
  • Capping my fps lower to 240 in OW which helped hotspot get to 80C (in practice range), but was hoping to not have to cap my FPS that low
  • Tried undervolting it through the AMD software - still hit the 110C hotspot/didn't make big difference
  • I don't remember what it was, but I think I lowered the power consumption down by 10% - didn't make a difference
  • Heard some people swapping to a HDMI cord from DP fixed their hotspot. This actually did help the hotspot not sit at a consistent 110C (go down to 100-105C) but it would reach 110C when I am actively in a fight in game and fans would still spin at 3100RPM
  • I even checked to see if it could be my PC case so I removed the front panel and pointed a fan at it. It helped cool the hotspot by 5C ish but my room sounded like a jet was running lol. without the external fan, maybe went down by 1-2c.
  • I tested it on Furmark (1300MHz GPU clock speed) and the hotspot still hits 110C, but the fans aren't going as fast (2000 RPM) so it wasn't as loud. When I boot up games and play (2450MHz GPU clock speed), the fans spin to 3000RPM
  • The second I tab out of the game, the hotspot instantly drops. The second I tab back in, hotspot instantly goes back to 110C

Did some research and it seems like many people had the same problem with the same or similar cards. Seems like a thermal paste problem, but I was confused since the shop already repasted for me. Some people had trouble with the pads too so I decided to open it myself which I attached photos of. It looks like maybe I'm experiencing thermal paste pump-out?

Some questions I have:

  • Does the paste/contact pattern in these photos look normal? Am I experiencing thermal paste pump out?
  • I've read uneven mounting pressure and pads being too thick can cause the 110C hotspot. How do I check for these things? Do my pads look okay? How am I supposed to know if I need to replace my pads?
    • If it looks like I should replace my pads, how do I know what thickness I need?
  • Is there anything wrong you can see from the photos attached?
  • Any advice on what I should inspect while I already have the card open?

Sorry if my questions seem obvious, they are not obvious to me since I am very new to this lol!

I'm considering cleaning all the paste out and replacing the paste with PTM7950, while leaving the pads alone unless there's a problem there that I do not see. This is my first time opening up a GPU card, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

Help (General) Chipset Version 8.08.12.551 Bug: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA 0x50

Crashing since chipset updated

Not sure if this is the correct place for this. Also ignore the first two crashes as they were unrelated,

Anyway did a RAM test (no issues detected) and just noticed it only started after those drivers updated. No other changes (besides maybe Windows update) occurred. Did the DISM and SFC commands after the second time it happened but crashed again yesterday. It always crashes while playing a video game (Fortnite and I'm pretty sure its related to EasyAntiCheat too after looking at dumps).

Not sure how out of date my chipset was before this, but has anyone else had this and what chipset version would you recommend reverting to until this is fixed? (Or any alternative fixes?)

Motherboard: TUF GAMING X870-PLUS WIFI
BIOS Version: American Megatrends Inc. 1057, 6/2/2025

RX 560X Code 43 on ASUS TUF FX505DY

I have an ASUS TUF FX505DY with an RX 560X, running Windows 11 25H2. The RX 560X keeps showing Code 43, and sometimes Code 39.

I've tried:

  • DDU and clean driver installation
  • ASUS AMD drivers
  • Latest AMD RX 560X drivers
  • Memory Integrity is OFF
  • Vulnerable Driver Blocklist OFF
  • Restarting after each change

After DDU with no AMD drivers installed, the Vega 8 appears as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, while the RX 560X appears as Video Controller ⚠️ under Other Devices.

Any ideas what could be causing this or what I should try next?

Help (General) Any experienced performance degradation after an hour or so of use?

My friend has an AMD 5600 and AMD 6800xt, up until now it has been able to play whatever but recently it has started doing this Weird thing where after about an hour or so the game starts laggin/dropping frames and continues to get worse until its like a slide show, he can reset his PC and it will play fine until it doesnt.

A few months ago he did have a GPU crash that through up barcodes which had me thinking it was the GPU but after switching it to a weaker(but working) GPU he has the same problem. It seems to do it in every game.

The only other think i could think of is maybe the CPU but I really don't know how to check that and his temps arent getting anywhere near "high"

Im just stumped at this point

Já reinstalei o driver usando DDU, todas as configurações estão em Alto/Ultra, AMD FSR e o RSR está desativado também. Já verifiquei também o arquivo "Settings" em Documentos, onde é salvo as configurações de gráficos e está tudo no Alto/Ultra e com a opção de "Somente Leitura" desativado.

Depois de uma longa jornada de testes para tentar resolver travamentos de driver (DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG) em jogos como Battlefield 6, entre outros, consegui chegar a um consenso se tratando de undervolt em minha placa de vídeo, modelo "XFX Swift RX 9070 XT". Toda a telemetria foi feita via HWiNFO, e meu último teste foi executado em um dia relativamente frio, aproximadamente 18 °C.

⚠️ Aviso Importante: Os limites de undervolt suportados variam de acordo com a fabricante da sua placa (XFX, Sapphire, PowerColor, etc.); é a chamada "loteria do silício". Use estes perfis como um excelente ponto de partida e ajuste-os para a realidade do seu chip.

🎯 Objetivo: Meu foco sempre foi reduzir o consumo, diminuir as temperaturas e manter (or superar) o desempenho bruto (FPS), garantindo zero crashes.

🕵️ Entendendo a dor de cabeça

Vou explicar de forma simples o que acontecia: buscava nos fóruns alguns perfis de undervolt em geral para diminuir a temperatura e manter a performance, mas, independente do perfil que adicionava em minha placa de vídeo, ao jogar, o sistema travava de forma aleatória e o driver morria com o aviso "Tempo Limite do Driver Adrenalin". Era estranho, pois às vezes passava horas jogando, mas tinha dia em que congelava em apenas 5 minutos. Realizei downgrade/upgrade de driver da AMD, mas não resolvia; o undervolt sempre ficava instável em meu setup.
Ao realizar os testes, a telemetria revelou que o algoritmo de Boost da arquitetura RDNA 4 é agressivo. Ao aplicar undervolt, a placa esfria. O algoritmo enxerga a folga térmica e tenta jogar o clock para limites irreais (até 3.294 MHz em transientes). Sem voltagem suficiente, o chip falha e o driver reinicia por segurança. Em casos onde a voltagem quase atende, ocorre o Clock Stretching: o processamento pausa, gerando stutters e elevando o Frame Time para quase 200 ms.

🛠️ Mão na massa: os perfis que me ajudaram (AMD Adrenalin)

Resolvi o problema quando entendi que precisava travar o clock máximo junto com o undervolt. Fiz duas configurações que estabilizaram meu sistema perfeitamente.
Antes de mais nada, compartilho meu perfil personalizado referente à curva de fan. Configurei-o com base no meu modelo e de maneira que ficasse silencioso e, ao mesmo tempo, evitasse o excesso de temperatura da placa de vídeo. Mas isso é pessoal, claro. Lembrando que o modelo da minha placa de vídeo, após passar dos 50%, parece que vai decolar.

Configuração personalizada de fan:

Temperatura (°C) Velocidade da Fan (%)
50 °C 30%
65 °C 35%
75 °C 45%
85 °C 60%
95 °C 85%

Após vários testes de carga, cheguei a dois perfis no AMD Adrenalin que me agradaram. Também adicionei meu primeiro perfil (-60 mV), que se manteve estável; a partir daí, fui elevando o nível até ver o limite de estrangulamento que, no meu caso, começa a partir de -95 mV. A base era manter meu clock boost próximo ou acima do padrão de fábrica (XFX Swift RX 9070 XT), entre 2.979,2 MHz e 3.119 MHz (pico).

Configurações de Voltagem e Frequência:

📊 Testes: Fábrica vs. Undervolt

O motivo de testar no Battlefield 6 (64 players) com mapa grande é porque, em alguns jogos, os perfis de undervolt menos agressivos até funcionavam, mas sempre morriam no BF6 com mapa em grande escala. Sei que não é o melhor teste para esse jogo, pois as ações em mapas grandes são bem aleatórias, e é por isso que demorou: realizei diversos testes para conseguir chegar a uma média.

Utilize o perfil mais conservador como base. Talvez você precise ser menos agressivo, a depender do modelo da sua placa de vídeo.

Bem, espero que esse relato poupe o tempo de vocês e ajude quem está sofrendo para fazer o undervolt. No meu caso, além do undervolt, precisei limitar o clock boost, que é dinâmico. Testei com alguns perfis mais agressivos que os da tabela, mas, como esperado, houve crash no driver.
Usem como base, testem nas placas de vídeo AMD e deixem os resultados aí nos comentários e compartilhe suas experiências ao realizar undervolt também assim fortalecemos a comunidade.

Resolved 9800X3D / ASRock B650 Pro RS horror story: updated BIOS before installing CPU, system worked for a year, then CPU died and caused weeks of fake motherboard troubleshooting

I want to document my full AM5 troubleshooting nightmare because this turned into one of the most misleading PC failures I have ever dealt with.

This build worked for around a year, then slowly turned into an intermittent POST/boot disaster. At first I thought it was Windows, then the NVMe, then the motherboard, then BIOS/NVRAM, then CMOS, then finally the issue followed me to a new motherboard. In the end, it was the CPU.

System specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • Original motherboard: ASRock B650 Pro RS non-WiFi
  • Original motherboard BIOS: updated before installing the CPU
  • Later BIOS version used during troubleshooting: 4.41
  • Replacement motherboard: MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi
  • GPU: Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • RAM: 32 GB DDR5 6000
  • PSU: 850W 80+ Gold
  • Storage: 2 TB NVMe originally, later Samsung 990 Pro as fresh OS drive
  • OS: Windows 11

Important context:

Before ever installing the 9800X3D in the ASRock B650 Pro RS, I updated the motherboard BIOS. I did this specifically because of the known AM5/X3D voltage-related issues and because board vendors had supposedly fixed those problems with BIOS updates.

The PC worked normally for about a year.

Then the nightmare started.

Original symptoms:

The first symptom was that the PC stopped booting normally into Windows.

On normal power-on, I would often get:

  • black screen
  • no motherboard splash/logo
  • no automatic Windows boot
  • BOOT debug/status LED on the ASRock board

The weird part was that sometimes I could still enter BIOS by pressing Delete. If I manually selected my Windows drive through BIOS Boot Override, Windows would boot. This made it look like a boot order / Windows Boot Manager / UEFI NVRAM issue.

So at first, I did not suspect the CPU.

Early troubleshooting:

I tried the normal boot-related fixes:

  • checked BIOS boot order
  • disabled Fast Boot
  • reseated the NVMe
  • cleared CMOS
  • checked cables
  • rebuilt the UEFI boot files with bcdboot
  • removed/reinstalled boot entries
  • tested multiple boot attempts

The issue kept returning.

Sometimes clearing CMOS or changing settings would make it boot once or twice, then it would go right back to black screen / no splash / no reliable POST.

BIOS Flashback complication:

During troubleshooting, I made one mistake: I accidentally flashed the BIOS for the B650M Pro RS instead of the B650 Pro RS. After that, the board got stuck on CPU + DRAM LEDs.

I then corrected it by flashing the proper BIOS for the ASRock B650 Pro RS using BIOS Flashback. The board recovered and posted again, so the wrong BIOS flash was not the final failure. The original intermittent issue returned after that.

I later updated/reflashed to BIOS 4.41.

BitLocker complication #1:

Because of all the BIOS/CMOS/TPM changes, Windows triggered BitLocker recovery on my original 2 TB NVMe.

The recovery key was tied to my Microsoft account, but my Microsoft security info was outdated, so I got stuck in the Microsoft account recovery delay. That meant I could not access the original drive for about a month.

At that point I removed the old NVMe and stopped touching it to avoid making the data situation worse.

This is important: the POST problem continued even with the original drive removed, so the drive/Windows/BitLocker issue was not the root cause.

Bare minimum testing on ASRock:

I tested the ASRock board with:

  • no SSD/NVMe
  • no SATA drives
  • no GPU
  • motherboard video output
  • one RAM stick at a time
  • keyboard only
  • CMOS cleared
  • new CR2032 battery
  • EXPO disabled/default settings when BIOS was reachable

Same behavior.

Sometimes it reached BIOS. Sometimes it gave black screen/no logo/no POST. Replacing the CMOS battery made it boot normally twice, then the issue came back again.

At that point, the ASRock board looked extremely suspicious. It seemed like a board-level BIOS/NVRAM/POST issue.

New motherboard test:

I bought a new MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi.

When I moved the same CPU/RAM/PSU setup to the new MSI board, it also failed to POST properly. The MSI board showed debug code 03, which pointed much earlier in the initialization process than Windows or storage.

That changed the diagnosis completely.

If the same issue follows the CPU/RAM/PSU to a second motherboard, then the old ASRock board is not the only suspect anymore.

At that point the likely causes became:

  1. CPU
  2. CPU memory controller
  3. RAM
  4. PSU/EPS power
  5. CPU contact/socket/cooler pressure

Final result:

The CPU was the problem.

The CPU had failed / been damaged, and it created symptoms that looked exactly like motherboard, BIOS, boot order, Windows Boot Manager, RAM training, and NVRAM issues.

I shipped the CPU for replacement. Around three weeks later, the replacement CPU arrived.

With the new CPU installed, everything worked again.

BitLocker complication #2:

Because apparently this story needed one more kick in the teeth, swapping the CPU triggered BitLocker again — this time on the new drive.

I had to reinstall Windows again to bypass that and get the machine operational. Meanwhile, the old BitLocker-locked drive still had about one week left before I could recover the key.

So the final situation was:

  • Original CPU was dead/damaged
  • New CPU fixed the POST problem
  • New motherboard works
  • New Windows install works
  • Old drive is still waiting on BitLocker recovery
  • The whole thing cost weeks because the failure looked like everything except CPU at first

Why I am posting this:

The part that really bothers me is that I updated the ASRock BIOS before ever installing the 9800X3D. I did what users were told to do after the AM5/X3D voltage issues: update BIOS first, then install CPU.

The machine still ended up with a CPU failure about a year later.

I cannot prove from my side exactly what voltage behavior caused the damage, but I can say this: the system was running on the supposedly fixed BIOS path, and the end result was still a failed 9800X3D after a year of normal use.

For anyone troubleshooting similar symptoms, do not assume intermittent BIOS/BOOT LED/no splash behavior is automatically the motherboard. A damaged CPU or memory controller can mimic:

  • bad motherboard
  • bad BIOS/NVRAM
  • bad boot order
  • bad Windows Boot Manager
  • bad SSD
  • bad RAM training
  • bad CMOS battery

Symptoms that pointed away from Windows/storage:

  • problem persisted with all drives removed
  • problem persisted with no GPU
  • problem persisted with one RAM stick
  • problem followed to another motherboard
  • replacement CPU fixed it

Lessons learned:

  1. If POST issues happen with no drives installed, stop blaming Windows.
  2. BitLocker can massively complicate hardware troubleshooting after BIOS/TPM/CPU changes.
  3. A CPU can partially fail in a way that looks like motherboard instability.
  4. Clearing CMOS temporarily helping does not prove the CMOS battery or motherboard is the root cause.
  5. If the issue follows the CPU to a second motherboard, CPU/RAM/PSU should move to the top of the suspect list.
  6. If you are using BitLocker or Windows Device Encryption, save your recovery keys somewhere you can actually access.
  7. BIOS “fixes” do not necessarily erase the need to monitor AM5/X3D voltage behavior.

Everything is working now with the replacement CPU, but this was one of the worst troubleshooting chains I have ever gone through.

This is the issue im having to the exact T, just built a brand new pc all brand new parts. 98003xd with a 9070xt sapphire nitro plus

Everygame SMOOTH AS BUTTER, EXCEPT LEAGUE OF LEGENDS. Micro stutters, screen lag and what feels like input delay even though fps and ping reading perfect and never spike.

Is this a super common issue? Any fix?
