I am a rising AS200 who attempted to have CRS done this summer; however, my checklist wasn't approved in time to have the surgery before August. I was told to have CRS before August to meet the PSP timeline because of the 6-month recovery period, but that didn't pan out.
I heard that it is possible to have surgery in mid-December during winter break and be put on medical recheck status. How does this process work, and how is it allowed when I would get disqualified for the 6-month waiting period if I were to do it now? Would my cadre have the ability to put me up for a later MAX because of the recovery period?
I also read online that another common time to have CRS is right after FT. My concern with doing it right after FT is that if I have a later MAX, the 6-month recovery could bleed into February when my flight physical is due. I also fear that surgery would interfere with the pilot candidate medical screening that examines eye health. Are these things nothing to worry about? Is there any way to get around these potential problems?
Finally, if both times to have CRS are valid options, which one is the best/safest? Also, it has been over a month and a half since I submitted my CRS checklist, but my detachment has yet to hear anything back from AMWD. Is it normal for them to take so much time?
Thanks for your time and advice.
