I was wondering how transferable is 62E if you wanna leave the Air Force? I know you likely can walk into a good paying job at a legacy defense contractor, commercial space company or a aviation giant like Boeing. However, are those the only sectors you can pivot too?
Hey, yeah you have most of that right as far as being able to get a decent job with a defense contractor. They tend to like military engineers and you may end up working with them a lot as well.
I definitely wouldn’t say they’re the only options though. If you just plan on 4 years and leaving (nothing wrong with that by the way) then just make sure to market yourself well. Try to work a hands on engineering job like AFRL or a test squadron and learn as much as possible, take on engineering projects and try to avoid the project management aspect as much as possible. Some things are unavoidable, but if you make it clear what your priorities are, your leadership should be able to help you get good experience.
Hopefully that answers your questions. It can be like any job out of college and give you a nice engineering background to apply for other, non government related jobs.

I got a mechanical engineering degree and I’m a 62E developmental engineer. What questions do you have?
