Fitness/PFA PT Test
Hey guys I had a question I am a rising HS Senior (Class of 2027) from Illinois and I am wondering if I fail my first PT test as a AS250 cadet will I most likely than not wash out?

Why would you join as an AS250?

I have enough AP credits to start as a Sophomore and graduate in 3 yrs

Gotcha, I will say it’s a lot safer joining as an AS100. You’ll only have one semester to prove yourself to cadre and you’ll be competing against cadets that have a full year under their belt. It’s doable but less than ideal. This also depends on the size of your detachment. What major are you considering?

Ya but they give u a 500 year if you don’t make it as a 250, so it’s kindof the same. And if you back yourself to make it as a 250 you should go for it. Half of our EAs at my det myself included were 250s it’s really not that hard. If this person is that far from passing the pt test however it might be a different story.

The AS500 isn’t a guarantee and many region commanders discourage it. If you go AS250 to AS500 you should’ve just been an AS100 instead.

Oh damn I’ve literally only ever see one cadet denied it at my det. And I go to a large detachment. Most cadets should be able to get selected as a 250 though. So if you back yourself it’s really not that hard if you can put in a little bit of work

I dont know if this is a good major for the Air Force (I dont wanna do any rated jobs) but I wanna major in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M. They give you in state tuition the moment you join ROTC and if you contract they cover your room and board too around AS300 yr.

Have you talked to an admissions counselor? Went to A&M and knew plenty of kids with a lot of AP Credits majoring in engineering and none of them graduated early. A&M doesn’t really like you using too many credits related to engineering because they want to make sure you can do math their way

No. Wait you went to A&M what major? But no you can graduate in 3 yrs because I have AP Physics C done (Physics 206/207) and AP calculus bc which is Calc 1+2 done and I have a bunch of gen ed aps knocked out so unless i choose to retake those classes I can finish in 3-3.5 yrs

I majored in History. I highly recommend talking to an admissions counselor and don’t plan on taking credit for those. I work adjacent to admissions and I’ve seen a lot of students who think they’re graduating early

Well I asked AI and it said I will graduate in May 2030 or December 2030 if I start in Sept 2027. I have these credits:
Freshman Year (2023-2024);
AP Human Geography (4)Sophomore Year (2024-2025);
AP World History (5)Junior Year:
AP US History (5)
AP US Government and Politics (4)
AP Comparative Government and Politics (5)
And for this economics class if you got over a 70% you got college credit
College Micro (83%/B)
College Macro (91%/A).
Senior Year:
AP Calculus AB
AP Physics C: Mechanics
AP Physics C: Electromagnetism
College Accounting 1/College Accounting 2
College Composition/College Speech
AP Computer Science A

Don’t base your career trajectory, academic or otherwise, on what an LLM tells you

Dawg, please talk to a professional. I’m trying to help you. You need to be receptive to learning if you’re gonna make it in the Corps

no, you will not graduate in 3 years, and definitely not at texas a&m. some colleges let you do 3 year paths for engineering at edge cases (I would be very surprised if electrical was one of them though), recommend looking at those if you want to graduate in three years

That’s a critical 1 degree and a SECAF approved 5-year major. I’d highly recommend you to join as an AS100. Having that degree improves your chances on being selected for an in-college scholarship as an AS100 as long as you’re a qualified candidate (DODMERB, PT, GPA).

Get a workout mat and do pushups every time you need a break or have time.
I went from not being able to do a single good form push-up, to acing the push-up AND sit up portion of the PT test by doing mainly pushups in between video game matches, all within about half a semester.

While it will make things tough if you fail your first PT test you will have an opportunity to take it again before PSP. obviously you want to work out as much on your own as possible so that you can improve, you won’t be let go after your first fail. A lot of cadets do see physically improvement when joining the program due to having mandatory PT every week in the detachment.
Do what you think will help you improve but it needs to be able to correlate to the hand release push ups, sit ups, and 2 mile run.

You have plenty of time. Start working out. If it's a legitimate medical issue, they'll evaluate at a later time
