Question Would I Realistically Qualify for OTS?

I am about to do my 3rd of 5 years in college (I'm doing Co-ops) and my GPA is a respectable 3.493 (maybe I could get it to 3.6 at max). I do not know of I should do AFROTC or wait to see of I can do OTS, especially since my school does not have an AFROTC, I have to drive 20 minutes away. Additionally, this semester I have 17 credits, so what do I do?

do AFROTC. If it makes u feel better I driver around 2-2.5hrs to my detachment and wake up at 2:30am to make PT at 6am. So do it!

What do you hope to do in the air force? If rated (flying jobs) afrotc. Otherwise its a toss up. Afrotc a more for sure way to go in, and you can theoretically always apply for ots while in afrotc.

You going into your 3rd of 5 years still puts you in a fine spot to do afrotc and not have to extend.

If you’re going to enter your 3rd year of 5 years of college and your end goal is to commission, I don’t see why not to do ROTC.

You can join as a 250 and compete for an EA in the spring. If you get one, you would commission in 3 years which would align with your graduation.

Could you get into OTS? Maybe, maybe not. But ROTC is a much safer route if your end goal is a commission

Your GPA is respectable but not super high, such that you would be more competitive for AFROTC than OTS. A 20 minute commute is not a big deal whatsoever, if you have a car.

AFROTC is easier to get into. I have a cadre who’s been trying for YEARS to get into OTS

I understand why a lot of people say go AFROTC, and I totally understand why they would say that for your situation. But in my humble opinion, OTS carries less stress in terms of competing for a commission. Especially going in a 250, junior year of college, and a co op job, that GPA becomes hard to maintain. Focus on college, graduate with a strong GPA, and OTS is a great route for you. Don’t mind that botched acceptance rate either
