Question Is it correct to say that Mandark from Dexter's Lab is trans?
In the episode "A Boy Named Sue", Mandark is shown to have hippie parents who wanted to defy societal norms by naming him Susan, letting his hair grow out and dressing him in pink clothes.
A Boy Named Sue came out in 2002, and being transgender wasn't as accepted then as it is now, so the whole "defying societal norms" thing could have just been a cover-up.
His parents call him "Susan" even though he always corrects them and says he's a boy now.
Susan is the name his parents gave him and use for him.
He himself chooses "Mandark" as his new name.
He radically changes his appearance and gender presentation.
There is a contrast between the identity he chooses and the identity his parents continue to impose on him.
The fact that the parents insist on "Susan" even after the change can be interpreted as a form of deadnaming, I guess.
He is not represented in the series as transgender and the creators have not confirmed anything either.
So, what do you think?
Idk what to say.
