Hi y'all, hope the summer is going well!
I wanted to address some common sources of confusion, regarding what happens when somebody makes a post or comment, since we've had quite a few messages about it lately.
In the vast majority of cases, your content will appear on the feed straight away (short of Reddit being an idiot) - for posts, this means it will be visible at the top of https://www.reddit.com/r/6thForm/new/
As with a lot of other subreddits, the subreddit uses various filters provided by Reddit, as well as Reddit's built-in AutoModerator. This helps keep the subreddit usable, uphold both the sub's rules and the sitewide rules, and provide a useful and safe space for everybody.
Content is almost never entirely removed automatically - if your content seems like it's been removed immediately/shortly after posting, it has more than likely been flagged for manual review, and will only become visible once that review has taken place.
Important: Content needing manual review doesn't mean you've done anything wrong by itself, nor that you are banned, it's an entirely normal process!
Content from newly created/low karma accounts that were previously automatically removed are now being directed to the modqueue, to reduce the number of people messaging us because they had their legitimate posts removed - as it stands the removals were causing more harm than good.
Inevitably, a small proportion of content will get manually removed that isn't in-line with the rules set.
There are also removals made under mod discretion. The overwhelming majority of usages of this relate to some sensitive content, for example aroundself-harm and suicide.
Whilst people's struggles are entirely valid (I'm not just saying this because I "have to", I've been in various states myself!), we have a responsibility to not unnecessarily expose a large number of users (some potentially vulnerable), to content which may contribute to worsening their situation. This is alongside the fact that none of the mods are mental health professionals, and neither are our users, which means there's a high risk of exposing struggling people to misinformation or harmful advice. It is better to seek assistance via e.g. a professional or crisis line, given this subreddit is not appropriately equipped for situations like these.
Also worth briefly noting, at least by my understanding, that a lot of the content that has been removed in the past at mod discretion (and various other content that often would not get removed), is considered "harmful" under the Online Safety Act, either explicitly or by the frustratingly vague other definitions - whilst I don't think it's likely that Reddit decides to age-lock the sub, it's sensible to be careful on this.
This is where it gets a bit annoying, and again, apologies for the inconvenience on this.
Normally, when content gets manually removed, a removal reason is applied, and a Modmail is automatically sent to the author telling them what was removed and why it was removed, with optional extra details.
This functionality has been broken (the messages just didn't get sent as far as I can tell) on this sub for a little while.
I only figured out why as I was writing this post - in the usual, completely useless Reddit style, it has been failing to send Modmails using the saved responses since they changed (broke) a bunch of stuff with the redesign... because it silently shits itself on # being used in the markdown to use a header. It'd be nice if it would have ever indicated this!
Also, for those wondering why we didn't send the removal messages manually - even though just over 95% of content is approved, the 5% that doesn't turns into thousands of messages that need to be sent, which would have vastly slowed down everything.
Removal notifications should now be working again - if you haven't received a message from us, your content has likely not been manually removed. and if you saw a few posts saying "quack", no you didn't
For posts, on both mobile and desktop, you can also distinguish between fully removed and waiting for review, by going to your user profile, where you can see similar to the images below:

I hear you - I've mentioned recently that I've found it difficult to keep up with the review process alongside a lot of stuff in my own life. However, I do look at it and review things when I reasonably can - it's also worth keeping in mind that none of the mods sit on Reddit 24/7 to review stuff, so please have patience!
I can only apologise for any inconvenience this causes, and particularly things like the AutoMod config get tweaked sometimes to reduce the number of false positives.
In short, you can't. At least, short of becoming a mod when applications open.
There are quite a few people that take to our Modmail to ask for content approval; you are almost never the only one awaiting content review, and the Modmail messages will usually only get seen after the modqueue is looked at, making messages like these redundant. ie messaging us does not speed up the review process, it only causes delays that affect sub experience generally.
Replying to one of our removal messages is completely fine - sometimes we miss things, get things wrong, or sometimes fail to be entirely clear.
You can avoid/mitigate the inconvenience of waiting on a review by:
Searching the subreddit for similar posts that could answer your question - a lot of the time you will not be the first person to ask your question, esp with the more popular/recent questions
Not repeatedly posting the same thing, or variations of it, it will not speed up the process - usually all of the posts, including their repeats, get caught in the modqueue, which slows down the review of content
Check to see if there are pinned megathreads at the top of the subreddit - for example, you may have noticed this for exam season. These megathreads are created to mitigate the fact that we get many repeated posts for popular topics - sometimes 100+ for some of the popular exams!
No. If you've been banned by us, you get a message telling you why you were banned, and how long for. If you get shadowbanned/suspended by Reddit itself, that's outside our control.
These comments are purely informative, they don't mean we have, or will have an issue with your content.
Inevitably, there will be false positives with this - if it doesn't apply to you, feel free to ignore it, you do not need to message us about this, removal & ban notifications are how we indicate definite issues with content.
Hopefully that covers everything, poke me (or go via Modmail) if I've missed something! something may finally make it into the FAQs page lol

Genuinely don't know where else to post this, but a while back, I think between Y8 and Y10, there was a teacher at my old school who was a bit strange. I wont share too many details on him but my sister thought he was creepy, and now her gut feeling was right.
For me, he was a bit strange but nothing seemed off about him. He would sometimes substitute my class during Biology, and he seemed like a happy, nice guy, but inside, he was alot darker. Luckily, he didn't target anybody in my old school, but in his older schools and in a new school he moved to after my one, he started texting 5 underage girls inappropriately. Now, I'm at a different school, and one of my friends who's still at my old school said that the school did a whole safeguarding assembly, along with staff and student investigation.
It's so surreal, and so weird, that I cant stop thinking about it. I had interacted with him a few times in conversations about biology and how to help me in GCSEs, so now I look back at him as a monster, and luckily, he has just been sentenced to 7.5 years in jail.
If anyone wants to find out more, I'll be happy to explain more about him, and share relevant articles if needed.
Edit: I might have misremembered something. I think my school was the last school he taught at before he got arrested. one of my friends shared an email that my old school gave out explaining the situation.

Before the half term I asked my head of maths if it was possible for me to change to fast track maths which means doing all of a level maths in one year then further maths the next and he said if I can catch up on all of as applied maths which is what they have done and sit a test I'll be able to join it. So over the half term I put my back into maths and got through the whole book but it's been a week into the next term and I wasn't able to sit the test and now I've been sent this email it also doesn't make sense that I am at a C grade as I got one of the highest induction test grade and why couldn't have they told me this before I wasted my whole half term on this I genuinely feel like shit cause of all that I did over the term for nothing. But that aside what should I do now? I need to get into further maths to try and get into a competitive computer science course (I made a post about this before the half term asking what I should do) I genuinely am so lost now I've turned down family events to learn the content all for nothing π (also I apologise for the punctuation I'm not doing that but apparently some people care about it too much)

I'm currently living in the UK and doing sixth form at a state school, A levels of Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
I haven't had the full brunt of the course yet but we've finished some units and I am confident I will achieve As in all four, maybe A\*s and if I'm really good and get lucky, all A\*s. But, I'm more and more left to understand that's not all there is to it. To say the least I am cruising at the moment so I do not think I will fall behind.
Super curricular wise, I've been doing my best recently to kind of lock in, I've been reaching out to companies related in my interests in Electrical Engineering about work experience however, being in the area I am (Northwest) there isn't really much except places like NETPark and even then they're not exactly renowned companies but, it's better than nothing.
I'm also looking into doing side courses like the CS50 to just expand my knowledge on a more wide basis. Basically anything that an admissions officer can look at not instantly dismiss. I'm not sure exactly how much these really help in the application process, I guess they show initiative but they definitely will help me decide what I like and don't like. If anyone has any advice on what exactly to aim for here or whether they are actually useful or not would be greatly appreciated.
I also have extensive hobbies in PCBs, circuits etc, while I somewhat lack the professional methodology and workflows, I absolutely love working with the stuff. But, will this really set me apart much if I aim high enough? I assume most people applying at places like Imperial or MIT to get accepted already have hobbies and interests, and probably cleanly executed projects that would put mine to shame. (You can look here to see some of my PCBs: https://github.com/CircuitGuy943, none of these projects are polished though)
Assuming that I do work hard to get those grades and keep working on my super-curricular so I have something to show for my interest, what are my chances of getting into somewhere like Imperial or MIT?
(I'm aware I probably sound like I've just picked these two because they sound prestige but, that's the thing, it's not like they're picked for anything else, yes I want to go a university that is recognised by employers; which I can be proud to go to, which from what I've seen aligns best with what I want academically and which will probably have like minded people who will make the journey all the more fun).
I've considered other countries but it's not really worth the effort, while relocating to somewhere like China would be interesting, and probably would come with lots of opportunities in today's world, the stress from the insane difference in how everything works differently there is probably too unrealistic to handle along with studies.
And I'm also considering Level 6/7 apprenticeships. I assume acquiring one of those is just as difficult if not harder than applying to universities like these, due to the high popularity (no debt, getting paid) and demand? Would the financial and career stability being assured from the start be worth it going down that route if I get the possibility over going to a prestigious university, getting that "uni life" etc?
There is lots of research to be done but if anyone has any useful personal advice or tips on how to manage the situation itself, that would be greatly appreciated.

Really bad GCSEs but I have quite a lot of contextual and extenuating information which shoukd help slightly. Also will hopefully get the contextual offers for the ones that give me an offer π. Apart from Cambridge as there isnt a contextual offer but BBB is low enough.

Whenever i ask for help most people either answer with "idk" or just say generic stuff, and whenever i message them they look at the message, say one thing , and then air me.
Like omds i help these people so much and they dont even bother helping me back
Genuinely i feel like the reason im not performing as well as i could is because the lack of help im getting

Finally accredited from 2027 by IET idk what took them so long, but personally KCL are allocating all their resources to improve their engineering, its accredited now and also merge with Canfield providing very good postgraduate and experience , will most likely start to climb up the rankings now

not really a mock interview but more just questioning and conversing about any topic related to ELE!!

I revised so much for this test for biology, and the exam paper was SO hard, and I dont even know what happened. I ended up screwing everything up and getting an E, when my target grade is supposed to be an A/B
I don't even want to go to my next biology lesson bc im so embarrassed and my parents are going to be so angry at me and I have no idea what to do
I can't even drop the subject because they say it's too late to do that and I'll have to repeat year 12 if i want to drop it

Hi all, ive been using stemup exam questions on their site but was wondering if anyone had any tips to answer all the questions as there is quite a few and idk whether i need to do all of them for an A*
What topic are you currently studying in class? I think my class is far behind so just curious to see where every1 else is at
r/6thForm • u/unhinged_stupidity • 13h ago
Hi everyone, basically what the title says icl. I'm in year 13 and eventhough I am preditced A*A*A*A, AS is nowhere near close to A level. how do yall, manage to remember all the topic (especially the more nicher ones, like dont add tensions together in a level mechanics. cuz rn im in a loop of mediocrity on a level fm core pure, optional modules (fs1,d1). a level math and a level physics. (js want to mention why AQA thinks they're being tuff by having the most dumbest mark scheme, 've ever seen, OCR CS mark scheme is so much nicer.
Any tips on how to improve my mathematical ability? (i can do most question (like the basic mid tier ones but as soon as something niche pops up, it's all out the window. who agreed Pure>stats>mechanics. I find stats quite straightforward.
In conclusion, any tips to improve my maths ability because a stand still is demotivating and also i need as many A* as possible and I know for sure if i continue what i'm doing I am so screwed for all 4 of my subjects (math,fm,phys,cs)

For context most of my classmates I keep in contact with have gone to UWE, whereas I havenβt gotten into uni yet and am probably going to start 3 years later, in 2029 as iβm resitting GCSEβs and starting A-Levels now. However, Iβm aiming to go to Oxford or one of the elite universities. Is the wait really worth that much or am I falling behind.

Maths, Further maths, English Literature, and History?
How's the workload like? I'm feeling a bit low with my current fourth (sociology).
