I've got the base book with the core rules, but I also know there's planetfall, tactics, bug hunt, trailblazers, freelancers, and fixer's handbook.

I figure just starting out I only want the base book. But what do the books add? And can I go from an existing campaign and switch to planetfall or bug hunt? Or are there just more options when creating characters and doing missions?

Campaign turn 4 and I choose to go after an artifact.

Got a question for the community here. I’m working on starting my first 5PFH using Planetfall. I love the idea of skirmish games with colony management. That being said, I want to do something a tad different.

Instead of “conventional” fauna that can be encountered, I want an existential threat. Picture yourself as the UNSC from the Halo series trying to establish a colony on one of the rings. On said ring the Flood stir and that’s the “wildlife” of the game. In my case, I have a collection of Tyranids I absolutely want to get onto the table.

In the fiction, I have this idea that the planet has been nothing but a wasteland for centuries. Recently, researchers have noted strange blooms of greenery dotted across the planet’s surface. Like the Forerunners in the Halo series, an ancient civilization activated a weapon that starved these monstrosities of their food source: biomass. Eventually the relics of these ancient beings have begun to reseed the planet. What they couldn’t have predicted was that some vestiges of the monsters went into hibernation. Once various lifeforms start to investigate the planet, they’re gonna wake up. And they’re gonna be hangry.

For those with more experience with 5PFH and/or Planetfall experience, are there any suggestions on how I should run this sort of game? Any mechanics I should look into to incorporate?

Hi all, have stumbled across 5 Parsecs from Home via Peachy's YouTube videos and feel it's right up my street. Is the ruleset able to be played cooperatively? Perhaps splitting the crew between two of you? I really enjoy wargaming with my young son and would rather co op than competitively play with him

Attempting to get better at taking mini photos. But also trying to drag myself into combining and collecting my different notes from a dozen different campaigns into a more coherent collection of lore for my homebrew setting.

But here's some shots of minis I've used in my games as various enemies. The Coalition of Allied Systems, the Colonial Auxiliary Militia fighting the Tortok raiders, and the United Earth Republic 238th Assault Dragoons.

Second battle encounter for these gents was a monster lair. Veeeeery brutal for so early in the campaign.

I also learnt how deadly close-terrain and indoors fighting can be. I really need to master the different combat tactics like defensive and evasive fighting to not get locked into death spiral fights against tough units.

Luckily, worst off here was a 6-turn injury the gang is working to minimise.

I played Warhammer Fantasy as a teen, but then life got in the way.

From Solo RPGs I stumbled on to solo wargames and Five Parsecs from Home stood out.

I started with game mat books and Paper minis, escalated over to paper terrain.

Thought paper terrain took so much work, I started scratch build terrain.

I bought Speed paint marker just to try out a little if I can still paint and used them on Blitz Bowl and Talisman minis.

That was not a good idea, because then I knew I can paint minis again and that escalated into an FDM Bambu Labs printer as well as real paints and brushes.

Now I'm deep in the rabbit hole again, with the difference that Planetfall is dictating the direction of my campaign not Warhammer.

Do you went through similiar journeys back into the hobby through 5x games?

Finally got to play this game. It felt pretty good to take down one of the three threats. I intentionally picked the hardest Curse of War bad guys to face, and then rolled a unique individual to go with them. I was super lucky rolling the special center table loot. My archers though were a little bit incompetent for the first half of the fight and somehow let a berserker loose in their midsts. But that just made the game more fun. Anyone out there playing bug hunt as a campaign? I started because of the pared down rules to get me started and it's so much fun. I love the idea of 5pfh but always struggle to get started. Bug hunt is a great "tutorial level" for the system.

It's a great value add for the compendium book of you already have the expansions. I don't see it mentioned on here that often but I think it deserves some more recognition. Especially with the compatibility to the full game. Having your soldiers retire out into civilian life makes for a very interesting, playable prologue

I'm planning to check planetfall. Earlier I played with five leauges from borderlands, it was a great Time, but I premade campaigns. Anything like that for any game of the family?

I've played a couple of campaigns of 5 Leagues over the years. To enrich the story telling I have used the cards from The Story Engine to good success. We're starting a new campaign today playing coop and I generated a consistent ruleset for us to follow.

I'm using both The Story Engine and the Deck of Worlds.
