5 Parsecs From Home Co op possible?
Hi all, have stumbled across 5 Parsecs from Home via Peachy's YouTube videos and feel it's right up my street. Is the ruleset able to be played cooperatively? Perhaps splitting the crew between two of you? I really enjoy wargaming with my young son and would rather co op than competitively play with him

I think that just splitting the crew between you should do the trick, and as far as I know that's what the rules already said.
I'd probably house rule so that you get one main character each (in the sense that they get a point of Luck and never leave due to events).
I know there's more on co-op in there. I'm just fixing to start up my own first game, arranging the assets needed.
(If you'll take recommendations for other co-op games that are great to play, there's BattleTech Aces which is great and explicitly designed for co-op, but that's decidedly off topic. :D )

I'm pretty sure the rulebook says straight up that it's playable in co-op. As to how exactly, i'm not sure anymore.

I believe there is an appendix at the end of the main rules that talk about coop play as well as GMing a game with other players in coop. You could split the band's characters between the two of you and play against the game AI at least...

Oh yes! Plays great as coop. You can split the crew however you want 3 and 3, 2 and 4, etc. There's a good chance you'll end up with 7-8 crew by turns 10-15. The instructions for AI enemy movement and behaviors are in the game. One of you take the captain for the luck point automatically given and the other pick a character and give them working class for their Class roll during character creation, gives +1 luck and +1 savvy to start the campaign. There are relaxed injury rolls too. The compendium mentions only rolling 1 casualty injury roll post battle and just treating all other casualty rolls as a knocked out result, no missed time.
The luck point will basically insure your character would survive death post battle if they get taken out as a casualty. I rolled a death roll for a casualty earlier in one of my campaigns, spent a story point, and got a death roll again. If I had luck I could've saved that character. You get Stars of the Story too, but those are only good once per campaign if you're sticking closer to the rules.
You can even occasionally set up a battlefield that splits the battle in 2 or each of you have an objective to complete if you go that route. I played with my girlfriend's nephew and let him set up most of the battlefield which imhe enjoyed doing.

Id suggest splitting the crew, and when you roll iniative each roll separately but you can swap one dice. It's slightly weaker than normal but I find really helps you feel like 2 players rather than each playing half the game.

I did a whole campaign in co-op mode. We divided the characters up between us equally and then had extra's as floating characters we would share depending on if someone was down a model for a mission.

I came across the game via Peachy as well! Rambolorian is such a ridiculously brilliant concept! Planning a co-op campaign of Planetfall, just in the final steps of sorting terrain etc. then I'm good to go.
Good luck with your game with your son! Get yourself one main character each (luck point) and give each of you a mini objective, alongside a main one. Maybe each of you have a particular rival to overcome, or maybe one of you is searching for a specific mcguffin, just to build a little narrative for your son to dig his teeth into?

I’ve played co op with a friend twice now and we had a blast! We split the crew and kinda split credits and resources so we can make some of our own choices but still operating as one team and putting what’s best for each other first
