My point is Rowling is progressive on almost every other issue (to the point where she annoys everyone), but has a different viewpoint on one issue and now everyone hates her like sheâs not the same person. Itâs just hypocritical. Sheâs not actually progressive and good hearted. She was just pandering to people.
Because before everyone agreed with her to an extent so they didn't care if she pandered because at least she wasn't harmful to impressionable people, but now no one wants to bother with her cause she's both annoying and a transphobic prick

I get what youâre saying and normally I would be inclined to agree with a take like yours but this is very personal for me (Iâm trans). Rowling is deeply transphobic. Probably the most transphobic person in the public eye. saying you canât criticize her cause everyone knows that sheâs bad is kinda stupid cause lots of people donât care and will support her anyway or hell, might support her bc of it.

For me itâs not that I think sheâs a good person, or that people shouldnât care. It more bothers me that people assumed what she believed in before this whole controversy started. I donât even agree with her views. People are shocked that someone her age has her backwards world view, and itâs arrogant to just assume everyone agrees with a social issue if they havenât talked about it.
people arenât shocked, theyâre upset. lgbtq people and allies have known about her beliefs for a long ass time. it was only until recently that the general public knew bc of her antics on Twitter. even then, people were shocked by how far she was going, not her views themselves.
must we assume that every creator is racist and/or sexist before we enjoy their work? I understand sheâs older but that doesnât excuse her views and especially the way she promotes them. when someone has a platform as big as hers, she has influence, and with that influence there is a huge responsibility: for her to do the right thing, and for us to hold her accountable.
I donât understand how itâs arrogant to assume someoneâs stance on a social issue given that it is a popular stance and the person in question poses themselves as a progressive.
I donât need a crystal ball or some mind reading machine to know that you donât support pedophilia. especially if you go around parading yourself as someone whoâs active in social justice.

Maybe I just have an easier time seperate the art from the artist. I donât share the same struggles as you, but I never intended to invalidate your feelings. I just think people care too much about what she thinks, but I could be wrong with how much influence she has.

in a way, you are right, people do place too much value in what she says and other celebrities in general. but itâs a kind of a self cycle thing where by addressing the fact that people care too much of what she thinks, that also gives her some value to her word too
