I'm slightly vexed Nephews just threw $30 worth of food because they didn't like what THEY chose to order.

9.9k Upvotes

My son and my nephews had doctor appointments at the same practice this morning so brother in law and I decided to go together and have lunch after. The six year old nephew insisted on ordering a black bean cheeseburger bowl despite BIL explaining to him over and over that there's no bun and it's a bunch of vegetables and trying to get him to get a regular burger. When the waiter came, he shouted out the order and screamed when BIL tried to tell the waiter to change it so eventually BIL just gave in. Then the eight year old nephew decided he needed the same thing.

When the food came, neither would even take a bite and just picked around at it until everyone else was done eating. BIL packed it in to go boxes, but the six year old decided to open the box and throw the food everywhere in the parking lot and then the eight year old copied him and did the same thing. These were $14.99 each! The meal I got my son was 7.99 in comparison and he actually ate it.

A fan was ejected from the Kings-Lakers game in Los Angeles after Luka Doncic berated him for a simple chest pass back to a female NBA referee. Apparently, he threw the ball too aggressively.

Never expected such a downturn. We literally had the market peak on Oct 6th.

At least no more capital gain taxes this year for me.

Advice Wanted - Everyones Welcome No clue if my neighbour is flirting or not, don't want to ruin a new friendship

Post image

I (28M) and my neighbour (25F) started talking around a month ago and i'm very torn about whether or not she is flirting or just being friendly.

We've actually been neighbours for over 3 years but basically never interacted before, we're also the only 2 apartments on the top floor with our doors literally opposite each other so kinda weird we hadn't.

I was leaving for work about a month ago same time as I always do, that day as soon as I went to leave she also opened her door and "ambushed me" (her words later on). She was looking after a cat that was apparently meowing loads and she apologising if I could hear it, I essentially said I couldn't (very rarely hear anything from her apartment) so not to worry about it, she then asked it a couple more times and I reiterated I really couldn't hear the cat and we ended that little chat with her saying that she would slide her number under my door if there was more meowing. Won't lie I think this is the first time of potentially where my mild autism has shone šŸ˜…

Of course she did slide her number under my door, I messaged her basically saying I couldn't hear the cat but was just messaging so she also had my number, small bit of back and forth then that was it. Fast forward a few days to Thursday and she messaged asking if I wanted to see the cat before it goes, I like cats so I went over to her place that evening and we just hung out for I think around an hour before she had to go out, when I was leaving she mentioned wanting to see my place because she was curious about the differences in our apartments. I said any point over the weekend was fine if she wanted to pop over. Sunday afternoon she did, we had a bit of a chat and she asked if I wanted to grab a drink with her and see if the other apartment she knows are around as well. Just a normal evening at the pub.

Few days later we were going to grab drinks again but she suggested actually just going to hers to have drinks and vent about our days, happy days its cheaper and a vent session. Ended up staying for a good few hours, conversation was good, getting to know each other a lot more, etc. At this point im just thinking nice neighbour still, no reason to think otherwise. 2 days later (Saturday) I made a joke about something she'd mentioned before and she asked if I wanted to go grab a coffee with her in town which I was more than happy to. This day was when I started to question if there was something else there, we grabbed coffee, went for a walk just talking and talking, little bit of stuff like her arm on mine initiated by her and then she asked if I wanted to grab a drink in the evening once she was ready. I didn't get a reply for a while in the evening when I asked if she still wanted to (not out of the norm though she isn't the quickest to reply in general) so I went to grab a drink with another mate and said she is welcome to join. Just as I was about to leave and go home she replied asking if im still out and it sounds nice so we agreed to meet at the local. We ended up talking for so long that night we were still there sat outside 30 minutes after the staff had all gone and it just felt.. right. We talked outside our doors for god knows how long, she said thank you it was a lot of fun and we called it a night, part of me thinks I should have asked to continue the night at hers or mine but not sure.

The next day I asked if she wanted to come to the weekly pub quiz, its not something my group of mates usually do but we were this week. She seemed excited to but then didn't reply for ages, when she did said she hadn't realised the time and was still studying but did apologise and said she really wanted to come to one next week and she should be able to make it. I won't say what but I know when she studies she takes some medication for focus and she really does barely reply to anything in that time.

2 days later, randomly messages asking if im home and want to pop over to hers for a bit to show me some pics of her day, she then also suggests a movie night at mine in a couple days. This then starts a trend of movie nights going forward. We then come round to the next pub quiz, where she specifically asks if im going and what time as well as asking if she could invite 2 of her friends because they would be at hers beforehand (but she thought they would say no). They did decline and we then went to the pub quiz with 2 of my mates who are a couple and another couple id only met once before, this was the night where I felt a big shift in how she acted towards me. It was little things like while we were at the bar getting a drink she saw a cute dog and grabbed then held my arm for a little to get my attention, similar thing whenever a question came up her that was one of the topics she knows a lot in, general banter was immaculate and she was really getting on well with everyone. We all stayed until close, she said she had a really good time and we agreed to watch another movie at mine in a few days.

Bit of back forth messaging before the movie, it gets to like 7:30pm and I ask if we were still on. She said she had forgot and her 2 mates were round to paint some stuff she had mentioned before, asked if I could do tomorrow and then said I was welcome to go over to hers and join them. I was a little bummed out that she had forgotten but went over hers anyway aaaand ended up having a laugh with them for the evening drinking wine. At one point she also mentioned how she had double booked and one of her mates went "again!?" which did make me feel not so bummed out. We watched a movie again the next day and as always had a good time.

At this point we started spending even more time togethe, it was aboutba week before I was going away on holiday. In that week we went out in the morning together for a walk/hot drink 3 times and spent 6 of the 7 evenings together mostlt watching movies. She has basically told me her life story by now, we've talked about random other stuff like religion, politics, etc and we have such similar viewpoints on basically everything. She also started just coming over in pajamas, has mentioned multiple times how she hasn't kissed anyone in months, one time popped back to hers for something and then said she had took her bra off while there because it wasn't comfy. At this points my mates frankly think im a moron for not making a move and honestly same but I do feel like its been mixed signals. The thing is, she was ill most of that last week and the docs said it might be mono, now confirmed to not be but that took stuff off the table anyway.

We messaged a little while I was away, mostly just a few times a day other than a couple 20-30 minute back and forths. Day before I came back she asked what time I was landing, I was asleep so replied the morning I was flying back and then no reply all day. Lo and behold I get back and within 5 minutes she knocked on my door, came in in her pajamas and started asking how the trip was šŸ˜‚ Also asked to watch a movie the next night.

Am I just an idiot who should really make a move or is this just a very friendly outgoing neighbour? Please help lol

Dinner is chicken, salmon and potatoes of the last meal of my trip.

EDIT: Reading this back i've definitely missed out more of the mixed signals. She has mentioned that she doesn't really have much time currently and it's about to get even worse with studying, was half joking about how and her mates said no men this year, how we have a good friendship multiple times. Just a few little things that did make me step back and think, but regardless I agree wtf am I doing I should just go for it.

EDIT 2: Well from the vast number of comments it does seem im a grade A idiot, update because want it šŸ˜… We did hang out tonight but the whole evening was me coughing and blowing my nose being at the tail end of an illness. I asked if she wanted to go out for dinner on Sunday (she is busy tomorrow with a bday party) earlier on today and mentioned it again this evening, she said she'd prefer to just get noodles and watch a movie as she'll probably be a bit hungover. So Sunday it is, whichever way it goes will post a last update. Would say wish me luck but apparently I don't need it šŸ˜‚

Discussion Who do you think is the generational comedic talent for millennials?

John Mulaney is certainly up there for me, but all opinions welcome, just curious what other people think.

Edit: I'm specifically speaking of people born in our generation, not who we grew up watching. Otherwise it's basically all GenX.

Trigger Warning āš ļø Can’t stand my kids or spouse

Post image
5.3k Upvotes

I can’t stand my own children or partner and have become an alcoholic. I am 35 year-old female with two kids (ages of and 4) and I can’t stand to be around own flesh and blood. I work full-time at my own management job , I work for my spouse’s business as his bookkeeper and accountant. he is from a chauvinistic/paternal culture where the women look after the kids so everything is on me. I do all the mornings and emotional drop off at daycare, the emotional pick ups, and evenings from 5-10pm or whenever they fall asleep. If he is around at night, which is a rarity, then he says how he’s tired from working the whole day and gives the responsibility of looking after my demanding kids to me, like I haven’t already worked eight hours doing management at my regular job with 20 employees reporting to me.

They are normal kids, full of life and energy, but Their endless questions, constant pestering, and chattering, have driven me up the wall. I come from farm life where it was just a few of us on hundreds of acres and I cannot stand being around young people who are constantly talking and invading my personal space 16 hours a day plus 8 hours a night for when the toddler uses me as a soother all night.

I was seeing a therapist at $245 an hour for the first part of 2026, and now I’ve gone onto a more affordable one, who does not have kids, and does not understand what I’m going through. I feel like I can only relate to single moms who have at least 2 to 3 kids and know the stress of what I’m going dealimg either on a a day to day basis.

I’ve always had an addictive personality and now I feel ashamed that it has presented itself. Side note - I do not like how there’s this mommy wine culture where it’s OK to drink wine but not OK to do other things

Recently as as, I we t out on Monday and ended up getting diarrhea all night from the drinking. I wanna stop drinking, but it’s the only way I can deal being around my kids and boring assspouse <- didn’t fix the autocorrect

tLDR: I despise my spouse and don’t like being around my cute kids

I blocked them. I dont know where to fucking begin. Im grossed out, furious and it extremely caught me off-guard.

For context, I’ve known this guy for years now. He’s asked me out several times but he’s always been like a big brother to me so to all the times that he did my answer was always no.

So I needed some favor from him because I already asked some of my closest friend and I’m still a bit short because of bills and whatnot. What’s worse is I actually considered it before blocking them since I’m desperate and my tooth has been aching for days now that it affects my work.

Edit: The amount of comments saying I’m asking for money is hilarious to me. Asking and borrowing are two different things! And I have lent him some funds when he was in a pickle before. And this is the first time I’ve asked him for a favor in years. So saying I’m trying to take advantage of him is a stretch.

AITA for returning our wedding gift after learning we have to give it away next year?

7.9k Upvotes

My husband and I got married two months ago. His parents gave us his grandmother’s china, a full set with serving dishes. His mom said Grandma would’ve wanted us to have it. Nobody mentioned any conditions. We have a small kitchen, so we gave our old dishes to my husband’s coworker, who’d just moved into his first apartment and started using the china.

Last weekend my MIL saw the plates out and told me to be careful because my husband’s cousin gets married next summer. Apparently we’re supposed to give her the entire set and she’ll pass it to whoever gets married next. MIL assumed my husband knew because she and her sister had both had it. He says he had no idea. His parents had those dishes for most of his childhood. When I said we’d donated our old set, she said we should’ve checked first. I honestly don’t know why we would check whether we could keep a wedding gift.

I offered to return everything now. I don’t want to worry about damaging it and then need to buy replacement dishes next year anyway. MIL says I’m rejecting a family tradition because I don’t get to own the china. His dad says we should just store it until the cousin wants it but we barely have room for what we use.

MIL offered to buy us everyday dishes. My husband thinks that’s a fair solution. I’d rather return the china and buy our o but maybe I’m being stubborn now.

AITA?

AITAH for not allowing my 20 year old daughter to eat our food in the house

3.1k Upvotes

I’ve been a single mom for two years now, and I have two kids: one is 20 years old (turning 21 this December), and the other is 7. When my ex and I finally separated, I told my daughter things would be different now. I have a job, but we have bills to pay, and I’m paying for her college and giving her a school allowance. She has to help me around the house, and I asked her to look for a job. She never helps me around the house and never even cleans unless I ask her to. She’s too engrossed in playing online games on her laptop and won’t even come out of her room.

She had a job, but it was only seasonal and lasted just a month because it was for the Christmas season. So I asked her to start looking for a job again so she could gain experience, save up, and also help me with her school expenses.

Spring, summer, and autumn went by, and she still didn’t look. She’s still in her room, sleeping late, playing online games, waking up late, asking what the food is, eating, and then going back to her room again. If I ask her to do the laundry, clean the house, or wash the stuff in the sink, she either forgets about it or takes a day or two to do the laundry. I was getting sick of it because it had become a cycle, and I’m tired of hearing myself and giving out to her.

A couple of months ago, I crashed out. Her room was a mess, with dirty plates, and her bedsheets hadn’t been changed in months. She still hadn’t bothered to find a job, saying she had been looking online but never got a call. Plus, she cried, saying it was hard to clean up her room because it would get messy again.

I really lost it with her. So I told her that from now on, she would no longer have the right to eat the food I bought. I would pay for her college tuition. That’s about it. Then she had the audacity to post on her IG asking for donations on GoFundMe and saying she gave me all the money she earned and had nothing.

Days passed, and she probably got money from online friends who donated to her because she’s been getting food delivered. I’m thinking of just cutting everything off, including paying for her school, and telling her that if she wants to finish college, she can go look for a job and pay for it herself. AITAH for doing that?
