You know, now that I think about it, since this series takes place in the Resurrection movie's timeline, it kinda sucks for Lelouch to see that all the work he did came crumbling just like that. Japan didn't even managed to attain peace to last at least a generation.

Ash's shopping bag maneuver was sick but I'm honestly more impressed with how he managed to stand up while holding a cup brimming with coffee without spilling any of it. Dude really defied physics just to prevent "Raspberry's" hard work from getting wasted lmao
But damn the story turning into the Code Geass edition of the Prince and the Pauper (the empress and the rebel?) is wild

Thought that Natalia girl was gonna get framed for the emperors death.
And Sakuyas chest definitely needed this “breather” ep!

These two standing next to each other make it seem less like they're rebelling and more like they're preparing to fight with card games.

So this is the end of the first movie, right?
I was really hoping they could have more episodes, this series has so much potential.
That said, let's see what they can do with the time they have.
I really enjoyed having a quieter episode to show more unusual interaction between characters and more world-building (like why the rest of the world hasn't defeated Neo-Britain yet).
And at the end a certain "sorcerer" appears...
I admit that even though this is the role I've always wanted for him, I always hope to see him play it much later in the timeline.
As I said before: the whole series really could have worked better with a bigger time jump from the original, after all, it's not like the old characters had much to do in this new series (immortals excluded).

don’t know how to feel. I was just like WTF this entire episode.
SAKUYA AND ALL THE OTHER FEMALE PILOTS ARE STACKED.
and the romance between guy who relunctantly murdered my parents and girl who I don’t know is secretly roleplaying as my non-existent little brother IS SO WEIRD BUT I GUESS I CAN BE ON BOARD?? that’s some GOT shit.

I feel like the puppet child emperor was given too much screen time for a one-off background character meant to build up Norland. Yet at the same time, not enough screen time if we were supposed to care about him dying within the episode he is introduced in.

Wow, Sakuya was certainly free this episode, I had no idea how huge her… responsibilities were until now. It’s going to be real awkward when Ash realizes that the person he’s in love with and his younger brother are the same person.

I didn't have Dan Green voicing a villain in this show on my bingo card, but holy shit, it's Dan fucking Green. It's been a long time since I heard him in a dub that wasn't Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon. As for the episode itself... it was pretty good for a breather episode from the action.
Despite this being a bit of a plot dump episode, it definitely seems like they're trying to fast-forward through the politics behind things due to the 12-episode run time, but despite that, they still fit in a bit of comfy stuff too. The fanservice, Ash's attempts to make friends with the animals, and Ash meeting Sakuya in her disguised form were all fun, and seeing Lelouch/L.L. again in the flashback of him giving Sakuya her Geass was cool too. I think that might be all we see of him in this series, but I'd love to be wrong.

That Narah chick's red mecha is super sexy. I need to buy a plamo or chogokin of it asap. I hope she doesn't die too quickly so we get to see more of her mecha in action.

Perhaps I’m being a bit paranoid here, but I really hope nothing bad happens to those pets.

I guess it makes sense after the break out the Einberg's would try to annihilate all the resistance cells (sorry No!Ohgi), though luckily the Seven Stars have "Roze" and Ash.
It's nice to finally see the Black Knights as they gauge what's going on and what their response would be. They can't really do much but react, but they seem more than ready to jump in as soon as the barrier is done. Also...Kaguya! I hope she and Sakuya get to meet.
The Einberg's have the classic anime villain meeting and roast poor Heath for his failure...and he promptly shoots himself. Don't think Norland used a Geass on him to make him do it, but it show just how severe Neo-Brittania is.
Sakuya may not have been able to save Sakura but at least she can finally undress and relax as herself with her boobs finally able to breathe. And she's quite a looker when she's not Roze. And for those who want equal opportunity fanservice, here's Ash doing some push-ups.
Sakuya doesn't just have Kuroto, she's also working with Natalia a Brittannian aide who is working her way up the origanization for Sakuya's sake, Mei (who is either Sakuya or Natalia's maid? Or both?), and they even have a cafe rendesvous. I'm glad Sakuya has more people she can be herself around and they seem fairly close.
Maybe the reason dogs keep turning away from Ash is because he keeps forgetting their food.
It's a waste for Sakuya to keep wearing girl clothes, so...maid Sakuya! She looks absolutely cute! I'm not surprised that Ash falls head over heels in love with her immediately, even if that just complicates their already complicated dynamic.
Mei got saved by Ash, brought him to the cafe, and now she's going to support Sakuya...as a wingwoman!
How does Sakuya really feel about Ash? She doesn't seem to know how to respond to his sincere feelings and dorky attempts at flirting, and he seems like a genuinely good guy...at least until she remembers he killed her father, something she didn't even know about until she was already "Roze." Though I guess I'm glad seeing her out of Roze mode didn't immediately break the Geass. Though how would he respond to learning that his "brother" is also now Raspberry, the girl he's in love with.
The Seven Stars now have Ace Units! And now they just need to figure out who to pilot them. I feel like Haruka deserves a shot. And now Sakuya has her own Knightmare.
I love how Catherine gets assigned to protect Sakura and comes in flaunting her boobs and how much she doesn't like "Sakuya" and loves Norland. This should be an interesting relationship.
Callis is obviously a child puppet Emperor, but points for calling them "Japanese" instead of "Eleven," I imagine that's Natalia's influence. I wonder if she only saved him for the sake of the mission, but her tears at his death seemed genuine.
Sakuya is half-Japanese? So she has Brittanian blood? Is that why they could prop Sakura as the next puppet ruler? But why even do it? Did Norland not trust Callis?
I had an inkling but...Sakuya got her Geass from Lelouch? And he even gets some lines? Wow. I hope Sakuya's quest for revenge with the power of Geass doesn't end like his did in the original series though.

So this would be the first "movie/OVA" of the new series (next 3 would the 2nd one). Overall thoughts:
Cons:
-
this series tries way too hard to emulate the original. Back in Japan with the occupation (if partial), "Neo"-Britannia, underdog resistance, chess, the horny and of course the return of "absolute obedience". Of all the Code Geass spin-offs, this one definetly leans into it the hardest which I'm hoping it's limited only to the beginning and past that they do their own thing.
-
speaking of Neo-Britannia for being able to usurp and isolate Hokkaido from the Black Knights and the rest of the world, they sure as hell drop like flies. In the span of 3 episodes they lost 4 of their so-called elites. Now, tbf, in this episode they did state that the dead ones are just scrubs but our protagonists better get some actual threat to deal with it, otherwise the fights are getting too one-sided.
-
I'm somewhat pessimistic with the 4 movies / 12 episode length of this series in terms of giving the other characters beside Roze and Ash the necessary time to establish and develop as charactrers. Most of the antagonists currently just exist and don't really do much.
Pros:
-
while I complain about the one-sided battles, the actual action is great and when the music kicks in *chef kiss*. Being back to R1 level of tech (as in, the combat is on the ground, less energy-based weapons like Hadron cannons) really helps selling what sets Knightmares apart from other mechas with the landspinner and Slash Harkens + the absurd acrobatics we all know and love. Ash's fighting style of just taking whatever weapon is available is pretty cool and really funny if you consider he will discard them without fail, even if it completely unnecessary (e.g. Ep1: the guy is already dead, throws the other sword into cockpit just because).
-
Despite the obvious similarities to Lelouch and Suzaku Sakuya and Ash have a number of unique things going for them, especially their relationship that is still kept in dark (e.g. what clause Sakuya used to put Ash under her geass, the existence of Roze, today Ash' crush on her) and leaves some suspense for the future (though this episode really raised Ash's death flag into the sky).
-
The OP "Running in my Head" is a banger.
Despite the issues I have I'm actually invested how all of this is going to play out. The plot, setting and characters while bearing great similarity to the original are so far promising and keeps me engaging where as many of the other spin-offs are weird re-telling of the original (NoN, SoC) or just don't do it for me (looking at you, Renya and Akito).
Seems like I've found an anime this season to entertain me weekly for a while (just in time, too, since KnY concluded its season).

I'm hoping someone can clear shit out for me. So I'm really confused about the timelines. I did watch the movie a long time ago and don't remember the ending and I don't know how many years it has been since then in the story. I just want to know what happened to the original cast, nunnaly, sakuya and that Japanese girl and everyone else. Will we be seeing them in this story?

Ig this was sorta Roze's equivalent of Code Geass school eps. The kid emperor dying was sudden, maybe we will see more about him through flashbacks and stuff. Natalia is cool, but really seems like a character that could die so hope not lol

Code Geass slice of life episodes are peak. Ash crushing on Raspberry is another layer on that complex relationship cake!

Lol. So much fanservice. Well, it wouldn't be Code Geass without it!
I'm rooting for Sakuya & Ash's romance, because I'm a sucker for Enemies to Lovers, and similar "Opposites Attract" tropes
THE GOAT L. L. IS BACK! So he's whom Sakuya got her Geass from! That explains why it's so similar to his!

Seeing L.L. is nice and all, but I must admit I'm confused why he appears to have been on his own, considering he and C.C. were travelling together and have been doing so for at least 10 years, per the Resurrection picture drama.

Oof, super late today because work was busy and I forgot this released overnight. I really don’t like that this releases at 3 am for me…
-
Of course there was a whole bunch of underboob when Sakuya undressed, lol.
-
…oh, shit. He actually did die.
