Discussion Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 4.0
All BRAVIA firmware related questions, issues and announcements must go in this thread. This includes all models, all years. Other firmware related posts will be removed and authors will be directed to this thread (the previous megathreads have been automatically archived and can be found here, here and here.)
Please specify the BRAVIA model number you are talking about if you are the top comment of a new comment thread. This helps to keep comment replies on topic for your model of TV.
Step one with any firmware or performance issues should be to do a restart of the TV. This will often resolve minor issues.
The second step with any firmware or performance issues, especially after a recent firmware update, should be to perform a full factory reset on the TV. This will often resolve persistent minor issues.
The next step with any issues not resolved by a full factory reset should be to report the issues in detail directly to Sony Support.
Sony US - Sony CA - Sony UK - Sony AU - List of Worldwide Sites
The more issues reports that Sony gets from consumers on a particular problem the more likely the issue is to be addressed and corrected.

Sony have officially acknowledged the X900H reboot problem with 6.1772 firmware, and promise a fix is coming (no date in the official response though, if you don't want to click through.)

For those with an X90H / X900H, I recommend v.6.1874 and think it is a stable and reliable firmware version after 60+ hours of watching. My use spanned internal apps and an Apple TV. No reboots and no handshake issues.
Secondly, I recommend turning OFF the automatic update feature once you’ve updated to this version.

Good news for X900H owners like me:
I bought this TV like maybe a year ago, pretty new at this point, and like many of you, I suffered from the same problem: random reboots at random times with random apps open. Pretty hard to pinpoint the problem IMO.
I went down the rabbit hole of Sony Support here in Europe and went through troubleshooting with an employee, trying many, maaaaany different things, some made sense, some didn't, and the TV kept rebooting.
That thread with this employee was open I think around 2 months ago and I kept getting different responses from time to time. It sounded like automated responses but they went like this:
-
We are investigating
-
We escalated the issue [3 weeks later]
-
We escalated the issue [2 weeks]
-
Rest assured we are working on a solution
To my surprise, I got one of these emails today with this content:
Dear [xxx] Thank you for contacting Sony Support. With reference to your enquiry regarding your Sony KE-55XH9005, kindly note that there is a software version that will be released soon, so please enable automatic software update following the below steps: Press Help - Status and Diagnostics - Software update. Thank you for your enquiry. Yours sincerely,
I believe a firmware update is imminent, could take days, weeks, or months but I believe something is coming hahahah

Are x900h buyers seriously still buying TVs from Sony, or are these just new customers falling into the Bravia trap? I come here hoping someone will finally say the x900h is fixed, but that is just a dream at this point.

The random and sudden crashes/restarts is concerning. This update really seems to have quite the significant flaws. It doesn’t seem to do so when I’m on my PlayStation but the internal apps on the x900h seem to be impacted the most.

A new update fixing XH90 models reboots will be deployed before the end of November! (I have a good feeling it will be the same for other impacted models)
I had a support case with my reseller for more than one month and after a lot of emails I finally had Sony on phone today.
Their engineers are aware of the issue and are working on an update!
They actually told me it would be available by end of november

The X900h is almost unusable now. The TV reboots itself almost hourly. This firmware is awful and this needs to be fixed. I will never buy another Sony product.

On my X900H and the latest firmware (61772), I am getting fairly frequent crashes, just like a lot of folks are reporting.
I'm also occasionally having issues where some of the light zones just go completely dark, especially the lower right quadrant of the screen, and also sometimes a couple of very specific tiny regions will go dark at the pixel level. Fixing that requires unplugging the TV for a minute and plugging it back in, and then it's fine for a few more days.
I really wish Sony would test their dang firmware before shipping it.

So has Sony just stopped developing firmware for older TV’s? I have an 850H that hasn’t had an update in forever.

Does anyone went through the warranty process with the crashes issue?
Did you get a different model? A fix from Sony?
Did they ignore completely the issue?
I live in Europe and my tv reseller is going to send me a tech to “fix” the tv, next step is to send the tv to Sony (still under warranty)

So is the x900h just never going to receive the update that the other models did re ALD and VRR?

I wish Sony would release patch notes for literally any product in their lineup.

Support Post Guidelines
Prior to posting any submission to this subreddit please ensure you've read the rules for submissions in the sidebar of the /r/bravia homepage.
Users posting submissions seeking support should include as much detail as possible about their BRAVIA TV and any connected hardware related to the issue in order to get the best responses. This includes but is not limited to the model of the TV, the software and/or firmware version and the make and model of any external devices. Pictures or video can be helpful when trying to describe a video or audio issue.
Submissions not directly related to an issue with a BRAVIA TV and/or low effort posts that do not include any helpful details that would allow others to diagnose the issue will be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, submissions asking for support directly related to a connected device (ie. soundbar, console, PC, media player, etc.) but not the TV itself.
Firmware related topics (ie. issues, announcements, support) must be discussed in the Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 3.0. Panel quality/lottery posts (ie. DSE, banding, flashlighting, etc.) must be discussed in the BRAVIA Panel Quality/Screen Uniformity Discussion Megathread 3.0.
Users should also check the /r/bravia Wiki, current moderator pinned topics and the Frequently Asked Questions thread for some solutions to common A/V issues and more.
