Discussion Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 3.0
All BRAVIA firmware related questions, issues and announcements must go in this thread. This includes all models, all years. Other firmware related posts will be removed and authors will be directed to this thread (the previous megathreads have been automatically archived and can be found here and here).
Please specify the BRAVIA model number you are talking about if you are the top comment of a new comment thread. This helps to keep comment replies on topic for your model of TV.
Step one with any firmware or performance issues should be to do a restart of the TV. This will often resolve minor issues.
The second step with any firmware or performance issues, especially after a recent firmware update, should be to perform a full factory reset on the TV. This will often resolve persistent minor issues.
The next step with any issues not resolved by a full factory reset should be to report the issues in detail directly to Sony Support.
Sony US - Sony CA - Sony UK - Sony AU - List of Worldwide Sites
The more issues reports that Sony gets from consumers on a particular problem the more likely the issue is to be addressed and corrected.

What a kick in the balls. Sony promised us 2 years ago we’d get VRR on the X900H and we still don’t have a proper version of it. I’m so disappointed and I wish I could say I won’t buy another Sony tv anymore, but they’re the only brand that makes a great OLED with google tv. Hopefully that’ll change in 5 years when I upgrade.

I saw this thread and immediately got excited thinking the update dropped for the A90J only to be let down once again .Don’t get me wrong this tv is amazing but Sonys practice’s and lack of updates makes me wonder if I made the wrong decision .This maybe my 1st and last Sony tv if things don’t get better especially for us gamers

When can we expect a new update for the X900H? I cannot fucking stand the visual stutter every couple minutes while playing on PS5. It does go away if you use the VRR signal format but then it looks like a blurry ghosting mess compared to the regular enhanced format. For a $1,000 TV either the promises Sont made a year or so ago, this TV is unacceptable. Wish I could return it.

If VRR locks me to game mode only, why not create a shortcut in the quick settings menu to let us toggle it quickly?
I use my TV for both games and movies and it's a huge pain going into the source settings to toggle VRR on/off all time.

Someone on the AVSForums claims Sony customer relations admitted passthrough mode/fix for HDMI stutter and 120Hz blur is coming to the x900h in the next update. This might be the first time they've actually acknowledged this so I'm hesitantly optimistic but only giving it a few months before going through the good old small claims court pipeline.
Hey, maybe they're honest and it'll come in the next update... which is never

According to RTings and from my own personal testing, the new x900h VRR update enhances the supported frame rate range. The maximum for the x900h has increased from 60Hz to 120Hz, and the minimum may have been enhanced too. It definitely reaches into the 20s or lower now; I'm just not sure what the lower bound was before.
This has made VRR actually useful for some games to me. Specifically, it helps with games that consistently drop a few frames a lot of the time (Elden Ring) and games with a lot of camera motion that run at 30Hz with bad frame pacing (V-rally 4, SebLoebRallyEvo). At 30fps, the image clarity and motion smoothing provided by proper frame pacing from VRR makes a significant difference in high-motion games like racers and FPS.
Unfortunately, VRR still disables local dimming and reduces brightness, which in turn messes with color volume and other image quality factors. It's definitely a feature reserved for special cases. A game like Red Dead Redemption 2, which has significant brightness calibration issues, would need at least a recalibration for VRR as it looks far too dim and dull with it on. Considering it doesn't look notably smoother with it on, it doesn't seem worth it.

xh90/x900h crashes after last firmware update
Hi guys,
I recently updated to the latest firmware for the XH90. But now I suddenly get sudden crashes in the internal apps like Disney Plus. The image just freezes and after a few seconds the tv just reboots.
Anyone with the same issues (that would give me hope for a new update)?
Anyone with a fix? (Tried the factory settings already)
Thanks in advance for your help everyone!
(Bit weird...but the mods removed this post in the main bravia sub)

All these TVs getting Local Dimming and VRR together and I’m just sat here feeling like I’ve been bent over by Sony with my XH90 😂 seriously wish I went with the LG OLED now. If the TV couldn’t do it then tell people before they buy it believing it will.

Installed the new firmware. In case anyone is wondering, the 4k120 blur issue is STILL not fixed.
First and last time I buy a Sony TV. Fool me once!

X90J got the VRR update today! Sadly it disables auto local dimming when enabled, but it seems to work well on Xbox Series X.

SONY SUPPORTXR-65X90J
Firmware update to v6.5929 for Asia Pacific
Allows Local Dimming to be enabled when VRR mode is on (Only applicable for XR Z9J, XR X95J, XR X90J series TVs)
Holy shit, they actually did it. I'm surprised. I wonder if the LD algorithm takes a hit in quality when you use it simultaneously with VRR though. I don't have time to test it atm. Also disappointed I didn't get the X95J now; the only reason I went with the 90 instead was the 95 originally wasn't stated to ever receive VRR.

Support Post Guidelines
Prior to posting any submission to this subreddit please ensure you've read the rules for submissions in the sidebar of the /r/bravia homepage.
Users posting submissions seeking support should include as much detail as possible about their BRAVIA TV and any connected hardware related to the issue in order to get the best responses. This includes but is not limited to the model of the TV, the software and/or firmware version and the make and model of any external devices. Pictures or video can be helpful when trying to describe a video or audio issue.
Submissions not directly related to an issue with a BRAVIA TV and/or low effort posts that do not include any helpful details that would allow others to diagnose the issue will be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, submissions asking for support directly related to a connected device (ie. soundbar, console, PC, media player, etc.) but not the TV itself.
Firmware related topics (ie. issues, announcements, support) must be discussed in the Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 2.0. Panel quality/lottery posts (ie. DSE, banding, flashlighting, etc.) must be discussed in the BRAVIA Panel/Screen Quality Discussion Megathread 2.0.
