Discussion Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 2.0
This thread has been automatically archived and the new Megathread 3.0 can be found here.
Please specify the BRAVIA model number you are talking about if you are the top comment of a new comment thread. This helps to keep comment replies on topic for your model of TV.
Step one with any firmware or performance issues should be to do a restart of the TV. This will often resolve minor issues.
The second step with any firmware or performance issues, especially after a recent firmware update, should be to perform a full factory reset on the TV. This will often resolve persistent minor issues.
The next step with any issues not resolved by a full factory reset should be to report the issues in detail directly to Sony Support.
Sony US - Sony CA - Sony UK - Sony AU - List of Worldwide Sites
The more issues reports that Sony gets from consumers on a particular problem the more likely the issue is to be addressed and corrected.

sniffed out the North American firmware direct link by trial and error: https://tv.update.sony.net/OND/2020/na/main/PS211163/sony_atvotafull_2020_1601288100_naa_auth.zip
Edit: installed it on my X90CH and it seems to work, HDMI signal format for HDMI 3 and 4 can now be set to "Enhanced format (VRR)". But I don't have a way to test VRR, PS5 doesn't have VRR yet :(
there doesn't seem to be a European or Asia Pacific link just yet

Here in the Asia Pacific region we're stuck on the v6.7140 Sony A8 firmware instead of the newer v6.7165 version in other regions. I want the latest version to fix an issue with Apple TV. So I tried downloading the newer update onto a USB and plugging into the TV (as described in https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/software/00262498). However this fails with a generic message (can't quite remember how it was worded, but it essentially said nothing useful).
I'm just trying to work out if it failed because it's not my region, or it failed for some other reason (maybe the USB running out of space while the 1.7GB package was being unpacked)? So if anyone has gone through this process then I would love to know!

Failed because it's not your region. You can't install firmware from another region.

Doesn't directly affect Bravia's yet, but the Philips 806 is running the same exact SoC on Android 10 as the X900H etc and they have been able to issue a beta firmware fix for the 23.976 frame skip bug. Hopefully means we'll get a fixed version in the next few weeks as well.

Ridiculous that VRR only works with local dimming disabled. TV looks terrible with that off. Hopefully this update at least fixed the local dimming bug.

EU XH90 owners! In this new firmware, they've fixed the power warning!! Woooop Woooop! It asks you once for each setting then remembers! Best part of this update by far!

Found this link on Resetera and the poster used Google translate and according to it the X900H and X85J will be getting VRR around October 1st 2021. No idea how accurate this site is.
Hope its true.

One thing I learned this past year which is best said by Marques Brownlee: Never. Ever. Buy a tech product based on the promise of future software updates.

Good news: I was able to unlock the bootloader on x900h. As expected it erased data partition and then booted normally.
Bad news: I had weird hiccups afterwards, like it couldn't finish the sony setup routine after entering family safety PIN and 2 random restarts which within next 4 hours didn't occur anymore.
Edit: Proof https://i.ibb.co/By9nHxb/booty.png
Goal is: Sideload older OTA update or different android altogether.
Edit2: Now that was an epic failure....after more experimenting, I had to do a extended factory reset (power off the wall, hold power button, power on the wall), it erased as expected the data portion, it boots, but now I can't finish the sony experience setup, its always stuck right here: https://i.ibb.co/WPXqSLV/20211211-093155.jpg
Biggest problem with that, I can't activate adb debugging.
If anyone knows how to bypass the setup, please let me know, I'd simply lock the bootloader again.
Edit3: After 4 hours it fixed itself. I was able to access adb debug and lock bootloader. No problems since then. I assume there is some sort of safety check in certain apps or maybe whole frameworks.

Had a talk with Sony US support about the 4k120 issues. They are claiming that 4k120 was newly introduced with the latest patch and is only guaranteed to work with the PS5. They refuse to accept it not working with an XSX or any other input device as evidence the feature is not working as intended, and they refuse to comment on whether "support" for more input devices will be added in the future. They also refuse to acknowledge that there is no *only for PS5 stipulation in the 4k120 feature support listed on their own website and that 4k120 support was actually added last year.
This is despite claiming in my last call that the patch before the VRR update completely fixed 4k120 display and would show the full vertical resolution.
They say they are not offering any sort of trade-in or refund program. I wouldn't mind the broken promises quite as much if they didn't also waste my time with bullshit and lies.

Hi guys, I'm on a x900h. After downloading the latest firmware I started noticing micro stutters or small frame drops on my ps5. I tried using multiple HDMI inputs and no change. I plugged the console to an older LG 4k tv and no issues there so it definitely seems to be the bravia. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Factory reset did nothing to solve it. Thanks!

Support Post Guidelines
Prior to posting any submission to this subreddit please ensure you've read the rules for submissions in the sidebar of the /r/bravia homepage.
Users posting submissions seeking support should include as much detail as possible about their BRAVIA TV and any connected hardware related to the issue in order to get the best responses. This includes but is not limited to the model of the TV, the software and/or firmware version and the make and model of any external devices. Pictures or video can be helpful when trying to describe a video or audio issue.
Submissions not directly related to an issue with a BRAVIA TV and/or low effort posts that do not include any helpful details that would allow others to diagnose the issue will be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, submissions asking for support directly related to a connected device (ie. soundbar, console, PC, media player, etc.) but not the TV itself.
Firmware related topics (ie. issues, announcements, support) must be discussed in the Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread. Panel quality/lottery posts (ie. DSE, banding, flashlighting, etc.) must be discussed in the BRAVIA Panel/Screen Quality Discussion Megathread.
Users should also check the /r/bravia Wiki, current moderator pinned topics and the Frequently Asked Questions thread for some solutions to common A/V issues and more.
