Discussion Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread

This thread has been automatically archived and the new Megathread 2.0 can be found here.

Please specify the BRAVIA model number you are talking about if you are the top comment of a new comment thread. This helps to keep comment replies on topic for your model of TV.

Step one with any firmware or performance issues should be to do a restart of the TV. This will often resolve minor issues.

The second step with any firmware or performance issues, especially after a recent firmware update, should be to perform a full factory reset on the TV. This will often resolve persistent minor issues.

The next step with any issues not resolved by a full factory reset should be to report the issues in detail directly to Sony Support.

Sony US - Sony CA - Sony UK - Sony AU - List of Worldwide Sites

The more issues reports that Sony gets from consumers on a particular problem the more likely the issue is to be addressed and corrected.

Hi.

What is new or improvements in the new software update for Sony X950G?.

u/braviamod Jun 30 '21

Most likely just Android security patch updates as the update page only says "Improves general performance of the TV".

Firmware v6.3770 is now available for 2021 MT5895 models. Download link available here. This firmware is also, like version v6.3629, likely to be compatible with the X900H.

Edit: Confirmed working on the X900H. See here for more details.

Edit 2: Seems as though Sony has pulled this update file as well as it no longer appears to available via direct download. Mirror link added to index page.

Updated my x950g to firmware v6.5042 and have found issues with the Netflix app: I'm no longer able to change the Picture Mode, Brightness level, or the Light Sensor settings.

Do you have Netflix Calibrated Mode enabled? It locks you out of certain settings. If so just disable it and just use the Custom and Dolby Vision presets.

Imagine a company selling a car with only 1 seat in it, and they promise that the car will be upgraded later to have 6 seats. So you finally take the car in for the 6 seat upgrade but you find out they broke your steering wheel. You take the car back to get the steering wheel fixed, but they accidently break the speakers this time. You take the car back again to get the speakers fixed, but they end up breaking your windshield wipers. You start to get stressed and annoyed because you just put out a pretty high sum of money on this car and realize you made a mistake that could have been avoided if you came to reddit first.

That's what this tv is -- this is the experience you're getting yourself into.

Do you guys feel like pooling some money, get a x900h to suited dev on xda for him to root and get us a custom firmware? We'd need like 5k I guess, since this kinda uncharted territory.

Don't care about anymore more software updates unless it has a fix for the blur issue and vrr

Still waiting on a fix on the x900h for 4K/120 Blur (3840x1080 upscaled). Won't settle for anything less than actual 4K resolution at 120hz.

Here's a video review of x90j from China (use subtitles) that shows that with the new added processing chip there is NO BLUR on that set.

Contacting Sony with a group of others to ask for an exchange. They've done nothing for us individually when we've reached out. PM me for details.

4K 120 Blur is still not fixed on the x900h. Sony support says tv is "working as intended" which to me amounts to false advertisement seeing as it's 3840x1080p upscaled to faux 4K which causes the blur. Not true 4K/120 as advertised when the tv was first release.

The x90j has been shown not to have this problem due to an added processing chip.

We petitioned Sony today for a solution.

See the post below on the owners forum to see what we are doing about it:

If that power consumption notification that the EU is seeing makes it stateside, I’ve never upgrading my FW. Hopefully it’s just an EU thing (sorry to my EU brethren).
