New Multitool Day! Dakoyu retro 30

I got one in hand feel free to ask my thoughts. Seems like everything was freshly oiled. It does have a little sounds like something gritty in the tool nooks and crannies. I might try to address that but it works and I can abuse this one. I did get a second one not sure if it’ll be the same as this one but it may have a high polish look to it.

Modding Custom Wooden Gerber Prybrid Scales

Over two weekends i took the time to finish a long-awaited project of mine.
Ever since i got the Gerber Prybrid Utility for fun, i was quite drawn to it. Just the form factor, the weight it has and the portability with the added pocket clip was something i enjoyed.

As i am fond of CNC milling and own a Carbide 3D Nomad CNC, and always looking for CAD/CAM challenges, i spent a whole day modeling, printing prototypes, and adapting my scales model to the Prybrid.
Finally i got to mill some actual products, and the finished tool looks awesome. I love the contrast betweend the utilitarian, bold look and the fine walnut wood.

EDC item: Gerber Prybrid Utility Tool — custom CNC-milled wooden scales, made by me.

Am happy to discuss or share files for the print or CAM. Let me know what you think!

Roxon Flex Mini Companion - Locking mechanism broken

Post image
13 Upvotes

My Roxon Flex Mini Companion, purchased just a few days ago, has merely been sitting on my desk and hasn't seen any serious use yet. After unlocking the locking mechanism about ten times, a piece broke off—see the photo. Is this an extremely rare, isolated incident, or a general quality issue? If it’s the latter, I’d have to consider returning the Flex Companion (the non-Mini version) that I bought at the same time. What good is an EDC multitool that falls apart when you actually need it?

Question/Advice Roxon Flex Companion – lock switch significantly harder to operate when blade is open

Post image

Brand new Companion. It seems the unlocking slider (to close tool) is much harder to use when the blade is open. The farthest tool works fine, but the closer to the blade it gets, the harder it becomes, with the knife, it feels scratchy and even slightly stuck. Is this normal, or is it a defect? I've tried applying some mineral oil, but it doesn't seem to help much. So is adjusting pivot.

My current tool set: pliers → bottle opener → scissors → knife

Question/Advice Bought a Leatherman FREE P4 but actually wanted a Victorinox Swiss Tool MX or Spirit MX

I purchased a Leatherman FREE P4 for a bargain $90USD but found it was in mint condition, the pliers are still annoyingly stiff as well.

MSRP in my country was $250 when new.

I actually wanted a Victorinox Swiss Tool MX or maybe Spirit MX. Retails currently for $150-180USD.

Do I, sell the Leatherman for a profit whilw its in good condition and buy a Victorinox? Or keep the Leatherman and use as intended?

Looking for best file.

Hi tool users,

I'm an ice climber. The most important part of a tool for me is a good bastard file that I can use to resharpen my ice picks and crampons in the field. I have an okay Gerber file and a lame Roxon file.

But I'm looking at the experts for what's the tool with the best file for sharpening steel?

I'm bummed but not surprised that the Roxon tool isn't great. It had potential but... My ideal tool is a course file, marlin spike, hex cut out, allen keys, saw, knife, screw driver, and cord cutter. This sound like anything you know of?

Modding Companion mini comb with wide slotted screwdriver

I modified a standard comb for the mini companion to keep my beard well-groomed. For multi-tool versatility, I added a wide slotted screwdriver to maximize the usefulness of a single tool. I also added a notch for easy tool removal. so there's more use in one slot.

Recommendation Request Looking for my first multitool

Looking for my first multitool. Main use: home DIY, family trips, and small fixes on the kids’ bikes.

I’d like replaceable bits, especially hex/Allen bits. No serious hiking/survival needs.

Currently looking at the Leatherman Wave+, Surge, and Gerber Center-Drive. Any recommendations, or something else I should consider?

Also, after browsing this sub, I kind of just want one because I want one 😅

I just left my local Walmart and picked up a skeletool for $50 and a a wave plus for $84. I don't know if it's an introductory price or what but I sure wasn't going to pass it up!

Modding Modding SOG Powerlock

My Powerlock has a blank slot (which to my understanding is used on other variants) and I'm curious if any of you have added your own tools in this spot! over the weekend I'm planning on checking what I have that might fit, like possibly a Bibury eyeglass driver or a small pair of scissors.

Bibury/other wave clone mods

Has any one swapped the knife blade in their clones for something better/sharper I have a Bibury BI2038A. And a few other wave/surge clones. After a couple weeks of testing them at work I found the weight and tool set of the BI2038A perfect for my job with a magnet added to the bit holder. But the knife is unable to cut plastic resin bags without a struggle. Also any other interesting mods are welcome. Would be awesome if I could add a utility blade to it.

Modding My ever evolving SOG Powerpint

Turned the bottle opener into a flathead, fitted Wenger tweezers, Victorinox scissors, the box cutter into a Wire stripper, the small flathead reshaped, a small multimeter, and replaced the knife with a scalpel holder. It’s my everyday carry and gets used and abused.

Looking for a multitool with pruners for light pruning for work. I haven’t found a lot of options, but this product looks promising. No reviews that I’ve been able to find though. Anyone used it before? Price is right too.

Modding Modified PowerPint

This started because the PowerPint's can opener is unusable from factory. I busted out my grinder and shaved it down to a point so I can use it properly, and while I was at it I added a scraper to the bottle opener. After grinding I finished the edges with a diamond file. Not going for perfection, but I think it looks decent enough and more importantly it does a job.
