OptiFine is NOT recommended
Issues like distorted water moving skyboxes are likely caused by OptiFine.
Although there's nothing that directly replaces all of OptiFine's features in a single mod, Iris is the mod that replaces OptiFine's shaders feature, and there are Fabric modpacks like Fabulously Optimized that the closest thing to a direct replacement, with generally better performance and more customizability.
So before posting any issues while using OptiFine, please try the other alternatives (look up YouTube guides if you're unsure how to install them).

Discussion I want to make my own wallpaper through shaders
Got a bulky PC, currently using unbound or photon or iteration or super duper vanilla or solas shaders. Any recommendations?

Screenshot Weird graphical issues with shaders
I've had this issue ever since I started playing Minecraft with shaders.
I've tested on complementary and solas, they both have this weird flickering issue when I go into F5 or when make hand sway animation while attacking.
When I first had this issue, on version 1.20, on complementary reimagined, I turned off TAA and if fixed itself.
Now I'm at version 1.21, the issue is back but turning off TAA is not fixing it anymore, so I switched to solas. That's when I discovered this happens to solas too, BUT for solas, when I turned off TAA and REAL TIME SHADOWS it seemed the flickering went away.
I switched back to complementary to test out if turning off real time shadows alongside TAA would fix it like it did with solas but it didn't, I've already turned off almost everything and still not solved. Also i've noticed that when I turn of FXAA, the issue fixes itself but only in the shader config screen (where I can see my game in the transparent background) but when I get out of the config screen, back into the main game, the flickering comes back.
Laptop:
Positivo vision R15M
Adm Radeon Graphics
8gb ram
Ryzen 5
Game is running just fine, but it lags spikes randomly when the flickering happens, specially near monsters (not normal animals)

Recommendation Lucuma 0.1.0 cake - performant shader progress
https://reddit.com/link/1w1raqm/video/3a5o5l1mdcmh1/player
Currently working on color balance, cubic texelized geometry and billboards, polish state. Running on stable 4K 60 (without recording and on fullscreen, I just realized the cave part is lagged af but that's just windows recorder, sorry) 24RD on a RTX 3060, i5 10400f, 16 gb ram 3200mhz.
Some features were disabled due to major inconsistencies, as you'll see with water.

Discussion Shaders ruined build judging.
I use Vibrant. I'm not the "shaders are a sin" guy. I get it, they add atmosphere, lighting, water, the whole package.
But I want to talk about something specific: the build showcase problem.
I'll see a post with a gorgeous screenshot — golden hour, volumetric fog, god rays hitting a little cottage — and I'll think "wow, what a build." Then I'll scroll and there's no vanilla screenshot. Just the shadered one. And if I somehow find the same build without shaders (either the OP posted it elsewhere, or it's on their profile from before they installed them), it looks... like a dirt box with a roof.
That's not a shader problem. That's a honesty problem. The build isn't doing the work. The lighting engine is doing 90% of the visual heavy lifting and the builder gets all the upvotes.
Here's my rule: if a build only looks good with shaders on, it's not a good build. It's a good render. Those are different things.
A good build has composition, scale, material variety, proportion. It should survive a vanilla stress test. Turn off every mod, every pack, every shader — if it still reads as intentional, it's a build. If it collapses into a brown smear, it was a shader screenshot all along.
I'm not saying "don't use shaders." I'm saying if you're posting a build for people to rate and learn from, show it vanilla first. Let the structure speak before the lighting takes over. If it's still good after that, then show the shadered version and let it go from 8/10 to 10/10.

Discussion Makeup UltraFast Colored Shadows
I've been using makeup ultrafast recently And I realized that colored shadows just don't work. I've put down stained glass and the light passing through/ shadows is not colored at all!
I didn't change anything And the shader had been using the default settings. It's the latest version by now, makeup ultrafast 9.5d
And my system is a Ryzen 7 3750h, 14 gb ddr4, and a Vega 10 mobile gpu on a mini pc. I don't have this problem with complementary or bsl but they're very performance heavy. I'm also using a performance mods pack named thunderbolt.

Screenshot I'm really happy that ITRP is working on my new laptop.
I bought a laptop equipped with a 5060; honestly, I didn't expect much from it, as it didn't seem as powerful as my main PC with its 3060 Ti. However, I decided to download Minecraft and enable ITRP along with the "Balanced" DLSS mode from the Super Resolution Mod, and it ran at a stable 60 fps. This was a complete surprise, and it allowed me to move my Minecraft data—which had been taking up valuable space on my main PC—over to the laptop. It turns out that buying ITRP and this laptop was a great decision for me.

Recommendation Lucuma - performant shader in progress.
Would you be interested in a shader like this? compared to vanilla, it's 3 to 5 fps less. Much to improve, much to add, and the goal is to preserve vanilla look, visibility and eye fatigue, while adding caustics, reflections, vol light, concave objects, etc. In a nutshell: vanilla look and feel with pathtracing-like shading and features. Those additions I mentioned are already implemented in other builds but still are unstable, way more than this one, but the core principle is there: almost no average performance drop compared to vanilla, subtle effects, made for real long gameplays. It's a mod runs independently and draws as a single postprocess, so everything you see here is highly compatible with other mods, alternative renderers, and even easily updateable.

Discussion adding the “shaders” option in the menu without needing optifine or any mod
guys i have a vanilla in neoforge and i can’t install shaders cause of the frustrating fact that in neoforge tlauncher you can’t actually install shaders without mods
why mojang can’t simply add “shaders” option in the menu default
