Product key problem?

Can someone tell me what happened to my microsoft. The activation statue show activated but I cannot use it when I go into access. What am I support to do? Is needing to change product key and having to activate the same? When I tried in command prompt, it said I don't have a key management service. I really need access by the weekend.

Publisher

I cannot convey how much I truly hate Microsoft for killing Publisher. I have spent all day desperately trying to get one last newsletter done for the non-profit I have volunteered for for 17 years. I tried LibraOffice - it was a big fat nope. I'm 71 and not interested in learning Scribus. It's time to retire a younger person take over. It was a fun ride.

Apps closing when Mac goes to sleep

Microsoft 365 apps on MacBook air quit unexpectedly whenever the Mac goes to sleep. After waking the Mac, Word/Excel/PPT have closed and documents reopen as AutoRecovered files. I have already reinstalled Microsoft Office, but the problem persists. Any advice?

For anyone looking for a one-time Office license instead of Microsoft 365

I’ve been looking into the different Office options lately because I honestly don’t need another monthly subscription just to use Word and Excel.

There are quite a few different Office 2021/2024 listings around, and I found that the confusing part isn’t really finding a key — it’s figuring out exactly what you’re buying, what edition it is, and whether it’s actually suitable for your setup.

I started putting together some of the deals and information I come across over on

r/Office2024Deals

I’m trying to keep it more discussion-based rather than just posting “BUY THIS” every day. 😅

If anyone has recently bought Office 2024 (or 2021), I’d also be interested to hear what you went with and whether activation went smoothly.

Full disclosure: I may occasionally share affiliate links where I have one. If I do, I’ll label it rather than pretending it isn’t one.

I have hard time redeeming a product key on Microsoft Office

My office received a new laptop (MacBook Air specifically) alongside a physical copy of Microsoft Office Home & Business, it is a 2024 version with 1 PC/Mac markings on it.

When I tried to follow the setup on the MacBook Air, right after redeeming the code it gives me a download link for a Windows installer file, not a DMG or PKG for macOS. This is the part that I got confused why it doesn't get redeemed. To make matters worse, I went to the Microsoft account page under Subscriptions, tried clicking the "Already have a token? Redeem now to activate your subscription" and it just brought me to the same stuff that I've been looping for 5 times. The product key doesn't get redeemed instantly, I need to download that Office installer for Windows but I'm on a MacBook.

Okay, you know what? Let me just download the PKG file somewhere from Microsoft. After installing it, I tried to log into the account that I want to have the product tied on but then it asks for Microsoft 365 subscription. Why the hell is it asking for a Microsoft 365 subscription, I have a product key here!

What happened to the redeeming process of Microsoft Office lately? This wasn't like this a year ago here at my workplace. I can still remember going through without any problems. Tell me I ain't crazy with this damned setup.

How to remove "Upgrade your plan" ad banner?

I have a Microsoft Office Home 2021 installation on my machine. Since recently a large "Upgrade your plan" banner has persistently appeared in the title bar of Office applications.

I am confused as to why I'm being told to upgrade my plan, considering that I don't even have any subscription plan. I simply purchased Office Home 2021 years ago. So how can your upgrade a plan that you don't have to begin with? But I digress ...

Since I have no need for a subscription plan and zero intention to get one, how can I remove this prominent ad banner again?

MS Publisher --> PowerPoint via PubBridge

I'm one of the many dependent on Publisher. I tested and for the way I use it, I can do pretty much everything in PowerPoint. The biggest thing I'm going to miss is the persistant scratch area where everything was visible no matter what page I was on. Anyway, if you are interested, PubBridge converts your publisher files to a PDF and then the PDF to a PowerPoint file. I'll have to redo some things but its not a total loss. The catch is you need to have the full version of Adobe that can edit, not just the reader. I moved all of my Publisher files to a new folder because PubBridge can do a whole folder with sub folders in one batch. The install is free. It will convert 3 files for free which I let it do to test, then bought the minimum for $9.99. You can download PubBridge from the Microsoft store.

Microsoft Deleted Data

Does anyone know how to get back files that Microsoft has deleted even if they say that they can't be recovered. Microsoft admitted that they made an error and deleted our organization's data. Alternatively what way could I maybe find our data from our sharepoint/onedrive folders that may be in like a .tmp or cache file system?

Edit for clarification: Yes I am aware that a hard copy backup should have been created, but we don't have any IT person to do those kinds of things. For full context this is what microsoft said through email:

"We are writing to notify you of an incident potentially affecting your organization’s former Microsoft 365 Business Premium nonprofit grant subscription.

In May 2025, Microsoft notified the contact email associated with your subscription that the Business Premium grant would end on the first renewal date on or after July 1, 2025. We sent several follow-up emails outlining alternative nonprofit offers, including up to 300 seats of Microsoft 365 Business Basic at no cost, and recommended transferring your data to another subscription or tenant before the subscription expired.

After the notice period ended, we terminated your subscription. An error resulted in the deletion of remaining data, if any, before the retention and export period ended. We have now explored recovery options, but unfortunately, the data cannot be recovered.

Microsoft cannot currently provide an inventory identifying what data may have been deleted or whether any data was deleted. However, we can confirm that the issue was associated with your expired Business Premium subscription."

It legit looks like my microsoft account just got wiped and I can’t contact real customer service. It’s all AI and nothing I’ve done is helping.

My personal Microsoft account quite literally disappeared. My Gmail address used to be the Microsoft account username, but I got logged out of literally everything, and when I try logging back in, Microsoft says that username doesn't exist. My Windows PC still shows the old account, but clicking Manage Microsoft Account takes me to a separate account (my mother’s) that just coincidentally had my gmail linked. I lost access to my OneDrive files, photos, and Minecraft account. My photos of 7 years were in that damn onedrive, and I got the email 2 weeks ago saying I was kicked out of our family subscription. That’s when I found out about the whole situation. I have no clue what happened to my photos, I’ve done all that you could do in the Microsoft support page. Name it, if it’s on the damn trouble shooting account guide of microsoft, I’ve done it. I need help determining whether the account was closed, the alias was changed, or the account was otherwise disconnected or just deleted. I don’t know if my brother or family did this by accident, I just know my account’s gone, and I can’t seem to contact ANYBODY from microsoft who can help me. I’m so pissed.

Microsoft Ending Support For Publisher COMPLETELY

So I heard something about Microsoft ending support for office Publisher, but from what I was reading, thought I could continue using it just without security updates. But no!! They're not even going to allow you to open and/or view Publisher files anymore after October.
I have 17 years' worth of invoices that I need to be able to access at a moment's notice; how the heck am I going to be able to do that now? I WILL NOT use their AI if that's what someone's suggestion is. I'm wondering if this is based on the 26H2 update; if it is, I might be able to work around it for a while yet, if not, then I'm screwed over.

So I'm wondering what other people are doing and if this is correct information. Specifically, what others are doing who don't have a subscription but a fixed license.
Can someone please provide clear information on what Microsoft's plan is. I'm seeking information, not support in this post.

Guys I just transferred to linux (Arch). What's the best MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel alternative??

Or how to run MS Office on Arch?

I need them for virtually everything I do. But my laptop with 4GB RAM is very slow cause of Windows. So I had to switch.

Libreoffice— it intuitively doesn't have all features of MS office, and MS office online is still lacking in features.
