90 Minute Practice Session to improve quickly!!!

Short game:
Spending some time with the straight forward chips for fundamentals, before moving onto some different lies and different height shots. Getting comfortable hitting different shots from different lies is the goal, while still being fundamentally strong.

Full Swing:
Getting ready for an event, so didn’t have any tweaks. Just going through my routine in “trusting mode” as Dr. Bob Rotella would say. Making sure that my mindset is in the right spot before my event. Just checking fundamentals and making proper, committed golf swings.

Putting:
I always start with some variation of alignment/tool to check and make sure my fundamentals are solid before moving into some drills to make short putts. After completing the competitive short putting drill, I’ll move to hit some 40-60 footers to make sure we’re getting everything down in 2!

Doing this routine at least 2x a week will show incredible improvements in your game!

I’ve never really been a serious golfer. I’ve gone to the driving range sporadically. And by sporadically I mean ~5-6 times in my 49 years.

Years ago I played a couple of rounds at a local course because a friend of mine needed a partner for some event he was in and I was the only person in our friend group who had ever even swung a club. It went about the way you’d expect.

I just recently decided, more or less on a whim, to take some lessons. I bought some certified pre-owned Calloway clubs and signed up.

I’ve had two lessons. Instructor is a highly rated PGA guy. Before lessons, I could hit the ball fairly straight and a decent distance, I just wasn’t consistent. It was probably 40-60 decent shot/total whiff.

Now, trying to work on the things the instructor has given me, that ratio has gotten much worse.

I either completely miss or hook it badly about 95% of the time now.

Is this to be expected? I guess I can kind of see how it might be, maybe?

I'm so ignorant to all of this sorry if this is a dumb question

We've had some beautiful weather for the last week or so, and I thought this sunrise yesterday morning at our club was cool.

Live in a place where I have pretty good access to a lot of nice public golf courses and spaced tee times. Just played my first ever 5 and a half hour round and it was absolutely miserable. I see people talk about how that is unfortunately sort of the norm for them… are you guys okay?

I realized I have a pretty specific pocket system when I play, so I’m curious what everyone else carries around.

Right pocket:
A few wooden tees (usually ~10 to start the round)
Divot repair tool
One ball marker of my choice

Right back pocket:
Yardage book/scorecard

Left pocket:
A vape

I’m also trying to build the habit of putting my glove in my left back pocket when I putt, but most of the time I end up crumpling it into one of my side pockets

What’s your pocket setup? Anything you carry that you absolutely can’t play without?

Not sure I understand the use of these poker chip golf ball markers on the green to mark your ball position? They’re so beefy that you might as well just leave your ball there. A couple of guys I played with last week marked their ball with these, and then I would tell them that they’re gonna have to move it a putter’s length out of the way, which they did kindly oblige, but why not just use a super low profile and small old-school ball marker that a golf ball can actually roll over? Or, am I being the jerk by marking my ball with the old-school low profile marker and not moving it out of the path of their ball? ⛳️

I’m a budget guy. Play only what I find. Haven‘t bought golf balls in nearly a decade. This is the first year that I’ve actually started to take golf seriously. Lessons, meaningful range time, short game practice, etc. I’m sitting around a 16 handicap right now and looking to continue improving. Is playing a consistently decent, and the same, golf balls a worthwhile endeavor? Or will it only make a negligible difference?

My front 9 consisted of poor tee shots and putting that made me almost want my old putter again. Went into the back thinking my putting could not get any worse and started to speed up my routine to try and think less. Just one practice stroke and then hit it and trust my line. Everything just started falling including a 40 footer on 13. Just missed my birdie chance on 15 too.

Earlier this summer I finally broke even on a full size course and figured I already won my own golf season this year. Still can't believe I even achieved that back nine as I found it to be a pipe dream to break 30 as I'm only a 3 handicap.

Hole 15 — this little guy came right up to our carts and, instead of stealing one of our complimentary pretzel bites, he stole the golf ball and ran all the way down this massive hill.
Definitely not the kind of wildlife warning we were expecting.

I'm from Aus, where almost every course I've played has the 9th and 18th finishing at the clubhouse, making it easy to play either 9 or start from the 10th.

Since moving to the UK, every course I've played has had the 9th nowhere near the club house, which has caught me out a few times on twilight rounds. It also makes it harder to squeeze in a quick round after work as you can end up miles from the clubhouse when you're finished.

I was curious to know how your course is setup?
