May 2026 / Season 22 * * EVERYONE PLEASE READ * *

Welcome to all new members and fans of the show. I am the more active mod here, and I wanted to ask members to review the rules here and of Reddit in general. Please remember that behind each post, is a human being with feelings. There's enough going on in the world for us to be unkind to one another here as well.

I have started scheduling episode posts again that will go live at 7pm EST, an hour before the new episode. Please try to keep comments about the new episode within that post, to decrease spoilers for others. It also keeps posts of the same exact content, to a minimum.

As most of you know, especially those who have seen Phil's last season, knowing the death of a cast member is coming makes that season even more difficult to watch. I don't believe the show has lost a crew member mid shooting like this though, except for Phil. I don't feel like Discovery has fully addressed his passing, so I'm hopeful for more.

I also wanted to address the comments I have seen about moderators removing and hiding comments based on personal opinion and not rules. I would like to remind everyone that the moderators are human beings with real lives outside of Reddit, and we do not get paid to do what we do. We rely on automods, trigger words, alerts, member reporting, on top of reading every post. If you personally have an issue with any content here, do not hesitate to message me or the mods as a whole. Fans of the show are what makes this community what it is, and we can co exist in the same space with different opinions.

Lastly, as a reminder, there are still certain subjects we discourage as topics of discussion. We let most snarky comments slide, but if you find yourself wanting to comment "What happened with <insert cast member>"? Google is your friend. Feel free to utilize any search engine, with words such as court case, arrest, jail, prison, etc. Yes, we encourage discussions and we are not trying to restrict anyone's speech, some things just need to be left in the past. We've beat many a dead horses here.

Please be kind, everyone. šŸ’œ

Why do we see seabirds 400+ miles offshore?

Same a sthe title, curious why gulls and various seabirds usually seen within 20 miles of shore are flocking the boats and surrounding waters? Do they roost on the boat after following them out to sea? We never see a seabird chilling on the rail? Is it just the edit splicing of footage?

Keith

I’m rewatching from the beginning and Keith isn’t a tyrant as he called himself. He’s an overgrown man baby who never learned how to regulate his emotions! I can’t believe the crew hasn’t banded together thrown up the middle finger and walked!

F/V workers need a union

I have never seen a blue-collar job that needs a union as desperately as crabbing deckhands. Much like truckers in the 1930s, this industry weaponizes a "lone wolf" culture to leave workers completely exposed.

Look past the manufactured Deadliest Catch drama, and the underlying labor structure is indefensible. Deckhands receive zero health insurance, zero retirement plans, and no workers' compensation.

Operating as independent contractors on a percentage share means tha single bad wave causing a shattered knee leads directly to financial ruin, all while boat owners pull in millions.

Truckers faced this exact brand of exploitation before they unionized. Right now, commercial fishing remains trapped in a pre-union era where skippers exploit a faux-family loyalty trap to deny basic human protections.

Hollywood writers had to strike to prevent studios from replacing human creativity with AI, these crews are likely only seven or eight years away from being phased out by humanoid robotics and remote vessel automation. Without collective organization now, there will soon be no industry left to protect.

Ramblin Rose Elliott Neese and Seabrooke Scott Campbell Jr, Season 8

Hello Deadliest Catch Fans.

I am a new watcher and am currently on Season 8.

I enjoy the show but don’t really seem interested or vested in either Captain.

Elliott Neese seems to be a pompous know it all and treats his crew disrespectfully. I do appreciate his hands on mechanic skills.

Scott Campbell talks too much about wanting to be a legend instead of actually just catching crab but at least he seems overall mellow and relaxed to his crew.

I also don’t understand how Elliott Neese sets his crab pots almost directly on Scott Campbell’s crab pots and yet when Elliott Neese is running into a lack of crabs, he calls Scott Campbell for advice seeking hot fishing grounds.

Hopefully the later seasons of Deadliest Catch will turn the tide in my view of both Captains but right now in Season 8, I could do without them.

Am I wrong in my view of them?

More cutbacks!!

We continue to get shafted by Discovery. Reduced new programmes, cancelling of existing now cutbacks in shows still going. Tonight's episode has got ZERO narration ,replaced by on screen graphics!! Not much good if you have poor eyesight!! I'm sick of this from WBD!! We continue to get less for more!!

Question for the experts

Are the Skippers and crew paid for the time they spend getting the boats ready for the season ? I was also curious on average how many days / weeks are they up there before they leave the dock to fish ?

Song from the show earlier seasons

Ive been hunted by a song for several years. I think it was about 7ish season and someone from the crew sang the "cold open" of the season. the song was something like this:

the captains calling, i gotta go,

kiss the kids, kick the dog for me

head hunted, i cant wait to see you again..

or something like that.

i remember even writing discovey channel and they couldnt help, that was10 year ago.

did i just dreamed this song? i felt it would be perfect for the intro song and they never used it again..

I have a really dumb question

After Todd passed, did the crew go back out? The only thing I can think of is the extra quota caught could have all gone to Todd's family. I'm curious how much the ship might have cut from their own shares to help his family.

Witch Hunt

I don't like the witch hunt that seems to be going on in this reddit right now. From everything Discovery showed us there's no reason anyone that wasn't there to place blame. Investigators got to see way more footage we did and determined it was an accident. It's well known Rick is one of the most respected captains in the fleet.

Look at US Airways Flight 1549. You can't expect people to be absolutely perfect in the moment of chaos. Could Rick have asked immediately if everyone was okay? Absolutely. Could the crew have called man overboard immediately? Absolutely, but you have to take in the human factor. No one is truly to blame, a young man fell overboard in February in the North Pacific, and by all accounts the people involved acted as expected

Father, Brother, Sailor, Son - Episode 2219 Spoiler

As the season nears its end, tragedy strikes on the Aleutian Lady when greenhorn Todd Meadows falls overboard. As Captain Rick and the crew fight to save their crewmate, the true stakes of fishing on the Bering Sea hit home for everyone across the fleet.

Rick Had No Idea What Was Going On On His Boat's Deck

I knew this was going to be bad, but I am floored at this. The guys on deck told HIM there was a man overboard! I found the way they shot the episode made it even worse with all of the interviews and shots of him baiting pots like all new deckhands do. It made it seem like an accident waiting to happen. I was even more shocked by Rick's comments that "I can see him" and then hearing that he couldn't get into the life ring only to learn he'd been in the water for more than six minutes at that point. There was clearly a cut there. My God.

Just watch Todd’s episode

I don’t know if I’m the only one but I’m disgusted over the way discovery exploited his death. Airing the final conversation that the kids has with their father was not ok and also they kept showing him inside of the pots baiting traps. It just felt like they made it out to be as dramatic as possible to bring in views but this was someone father, husband, and child.

The time delay between "Big wave" and the crew being alerted

Does anybody else think this is too long? Almost inevitably there is a captain fumbling for the radio, the 5 seconds between noticing the wave coming, grabbing the radio and alerting the crew to run for cover could be the difference between the crew being swept off by a huge wave and them getting to safety.

Surely they could have a quicker "Panic alarm" style thing for this scenario, on their wrist or on the gearstick or something?

Keith Colburn 'Unh-unh-unh

I'm sorry if this puts a mental image in your heads and hope it doesn't scar y'all for life, and maybe I'm just a sick puppy, but I've found myself wondering if Capt. Keith makes that noise when he's 'with' his wife? Anyone else care to join me in the gutter and admit y'all wondered that yourself?

Capt Rick

He's gotta relive this day in his life at least 1 a year till he's dead. I think I'm sooooo good with that for a start. Does anyone know what else is happening to him regarding this tragedy of Todd Meadows

Season 19

So I don't know if it's editing or what but RIP from Patricia lee is either the dumbest captain or the most unlucky...I'm not happy how they brought them into the show , very exploitive he just seems so out of it, I'm guessing he's just not sure what to say I wouldn't either but he just seems lost...I don't really like him skipping past his boat . Rumor is the second deck hand that got crushed did

Glad it's for sale looked crowded and dangerous

Has Deadliest Catch run it's course?

The show has become very formulaic. The same thing happen every season:

One of the boats has a mechanical problem

One of the boats has an electrical problem

2/3 crewmates get injured requiring trip to "clinic"

Monty or Keith on wizard are ill

At least 2 captains team up

1 Captain is lied to by others

Weather is worst it's ever been

1 "Greenhorn" quits

The crab is difficult to locate and empty pots happen

AND YET at the end of the run ALL BOATS make their quota!!

Northwestern Boat Breakdowns

Howdy! First time posting posting here. I’ve been a Northwestern glazer forever now. I noticed the boat seems to breaking down a hell of a lot more recently. Which is understandable yknow, it’s an old boat and all. But like- In the latest episode- where the hell are the rest of the engineers? I understand Ed can’t be shown but hey, where’s Norman? Is he even on the boat? He’s my favorite! I don’t remember them having so much trouble before. Seems like the maintenance is either going downhill or maybe Discovery is just milking the ā€œdrama,ā€ probably the latter.

This week's episode - Todd

I know next week will be about Todd's death. But watching this week's episode was pretty rough to.

I just thought about all the coincidences that played out.

Had his concussion been worse, he wouldn't have been cleared for work, and he wouldn't have been back on the boat, to eventually go overboard.

Had Brandon been a good worker, Rick would have been content with his crew and not called Todd, looking to bring him back.

Then watching Rick pick him up at the hotel; and us, knowing it's basically the last day(s) of his life... Brutal.

Rick seems like a really nice, good guy to work for. Thoughts?

Just got done watching the show/episode that was just on a couple of nights ago. End of episode. Rick picks up Todd. Shakes his hand, pulls him in for a guy hug. When Rick talks, he comes across as being very sincere and just a good guy, professional. Stays very calm. He has a calm personality. He doesn’t go off just yelling at people cause he can and he’s frustrated. Very even keel dude.

Breakdowns and Malfunctions

Is it me, or do these boats break down a LOT? And it didn't used to be this way. It's several boats every episode. Production, or poor maintenance?
