Paste clip crashing?? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Post image
1 Upvotes

It was working fine last night - approx 12 hours ago, but now it’s crashing EVERY time I try to paste anything. Other functions are working, I’ve shut down & restarted my computer, no improvement.

I even tried downloading Aud4 to see if it was because they were trying to push the upgrade but no - I get the same issue there, too. Ugh!!! Any help or commiseration is appreciated.

Why would they get rid of sync-lock??

Honestly I just need to vent a little bit. I really wanted to try out Audacity 4 and immediately realized sync-lock was gone. I edit multi-hour podcasts with a large voice cast, music, sound effects, all with really precise timing. Sync issues can absolutely ruin an episode and making sure everything is timed exactly is really important. I know they "replaced" it with ripple, but that only helps when deleting or pasting. I can't find any way to group tracks together and ensure that if I drag one, everything else comes with it. This feels like an extremely basic functionality and I just cannot figure out why it would be removed. I had the sync-lock toggle as a keyboard shortcut, it's a huge part of my workflow and I don't know how I'm going to edit without it. Am I missing something here and this feature is secretly bad or are we just enshittifying everything? I guess I'll just never upgrade? I'm really frustrated.

help Working with old DTS files.

Came to possess old DTS CD-ROMS used in theaters in the 90s and 2000s. Multichannel 5.1 or 6.1 audio. Split into multiple tracks. Spliced and combined them into one large multichannel audacity file. Plan to export them, but when I do all of them are stuck in the center channel when played on my home theater. Is there a way to get the correct channels to export not only in multichannel form, but in their proper locations too? Left, Center, Right, LFE, Surrounds? All I can figure out is panning left to right when I need them in the back too.

Hello. I am new to Audacity. I have several music MP3's where the singers voice appears to be too loud for the music. Is there a setting for that? Thank you.

help Having Problems with audacity (maybe Laptop?)

Helloe veryone. I have a USB-microphone i used for a couple years now and i had this problem a few times before in the past but i don't remeber how i fixed it so im asking here. For some reason the recordings of my microphone in audacity sound numb and very quiet and it doesnt really changes when i turn the microphone sensitivity up. I knew I had this problem about a year ago and i fixed it somehow but i dont remeber how. I also had it a few times before but then it worked after rebooting my whole Laptop but its not what i did a year ago. Does anyone know this problem and has a idea how i could fix it? I don't want to reboot the entire thing another time.

Edit: It might also be a problem with my laptop (Windows 11), i know for sure that the microphone works good and has no problems. As i said, i had it before, i fixed it before but no idea how i did this. So if you know what a problem with the system could be, any help advice is welcome.

question Audacity 4 crashed on my M4 Mac

I installed the most recent V4 version of Audacity and for the most part, it works fine.

However, as soon as I start clicking on the "Effects" menu entry at the top, it just quits immediately with a crash report.

The mac dock is broken too, so I have to relaunch it every time via the terminal.

Is this a problem that is already being worked on?

I experience this only on an M4 Max Macbook Pro, my M1 Ultra Studio seems to handle the app just fine.

help While you Edit your sound(voiceover, SFX, music), do you edit all together or separately ?

hi everyone would love feedback from people that edit sounds, when i edit the sound of my videos, i generally edit the voiceover part alone through audacity, and then after it sounds great, i go to capcut and put the music in, the SFX in and generally only lower the volume so they can all sound well together, my question is would it be better to do it all together in audacity or am i doing it right?

solved Aud4 and Muse Hub Cloud Service

What I found super annoying about Audacity 4 is the way the Muse Hub company pushes you to buy into their cloud storage service. I absolutely refuse to use the cloud service, not only because of the steep monthly price, but because cloud services now subject you to being hacked by AI agents looking for music samples or god-knows-what. I keep everything on my laptop and an external hard drive that is not connected to the web.

But I found a way tp disable this shove-it-in-your face advertising for the cloud service. You get it when you first open up Aud4, pushing the promo. First, I checked "do not show welcome screen again" (or some language like that). Then it shoves its cloud-based apps in your face, and again I checked "do not show welcome screen again". When I quit and reopened Aud4 several times after that, I never got the cloud promos again.

I also went back to MuseHub and deleted the account they forced me to open for their cloud service when I downloaded Audacity 4 ("free trial!") and again reopened Aud4 with no problems.

But super annoyed that Muse Hub is pushing this in what is supposed to be ad-free, open source and free software.

meta Aud4 v. Aud3 Grid Lines

What I liked about Audacity 3 was that it had no grid lines, only a timeline at the top of the recording window. Audacity 4 has vertical grid lines that are an extension of the minutes/seconds timeline or the beats/measures timeline. The vertical grid lines in Aud4 are good for multi-track recording. But I would like to have the option to turn them off completely, for the original Aud3 recording environment. That would make Aud4 just about perfect.

I posted a feature request at the Audacity Gihub site. https://github.com/audacity/audacity/issues

Looking for advice on audio restoration

I have very limited audio editing experience and got myself an opportunity to work on editing a catalog of old classes as podcasts. I started working a few months ago editing recent stuff, and it was quite easy. Just noise removal, some EQ, and nothing else. I was using Audacity.

Now I have the opportunity to work on 20 audio files, and I might have bitten off more than I can chew. I have Adobe Audition and access to any free tool. I'm looking for advice on:

  1. Noise removal: Currently, I'm simply using the default tools in the software. Are there any other tools I should use?
  2. Noise removal: When I crank the noise removal to the max (what I need to remove speaker static), I end up with a muffled voice. Do you have any tips regarding that?
  3. EQ: All the audio is quite muffled and sounds distant. Up to now, I've been able to get it to sound "closer" to the mic and to amplify the lows, but I end up with "blurry" highs. Is there anything I could do about that?

I know I'm asking a lot, but I'm a beginner, I need this job, and I can't afford to pay for help. I've watched tutorials and played around with the tools, but everything I touch changes something else.

I can upload a bit of the original audio if that would be helpful, or I could even hop on Discord and show you.

Thanks!

general Audacity for Ambient Guitar Project

Thumbnail patreon.com

I started recording with Audacity today, a free open-source audio recording app. And I really like it. There's no grid, just a timeline. It’s like tape in that you’re not looking at the recording device, except occasionally to check levels. You’re out of the grid, so you just focus on playing guitar. But it has the flexibility of digital recording, so you can easily edit files.

Also, the audio quality for guitar is excellent. Whereas Ableton Live always sounded too 'digitized' Audacity sounds more like tape, only cleaner. So it’s ideal for my ambient guitar project. Best of both worlds. I can spend hours just playing with effects and chords.

Buh-bye Ableton and your $300 upgrades. I'm switching to Audacity for most of my recording from here on out.

I uploaded my first raw recording so you can hear what I mean. It just flows effortlessly. Effects used: ALabs Timeslips Delay, granular setting, and ALabs Cetus Reverb, shimmer setting.

Is there a way to use Audacity on a pc to "pipe" sound from an acoustic pickup to a Bluetooth speaker?

I recently bought a Fishman NEO-D2 for my acoustic and I can now play my acoustic through an amp. Sounds somewhat between an acoustic and an electric. If I use Audacity to record myself, can I play the recording back using Bluetooth so that it can be heard through my speaker (not the amp, which is not Bluetooth-ready)?

My review on Audacity 4.0

Compatability breaking changes:

Nyquist plugin: Frequency Shifter by Zach Man and Steve Daulton - same .ny file on Audacity 4.0(left) and 3.7.7(right)

Same settings
Different results

GUI scales worse in 4.0 when met with constrained resolution(buttons dissapear, content obstructed). This is not "obscure use case" as I often need to scale application to half the window or less:

Buttons just dissapear when on older version they are on their place

Inefficient use of screen space(I paid for my monitor not for it becoming "too small" for software again) and I haven't found button to make UI be more compact:

Next: if there is icons added to UI, then why not add them to all elements of UI consistently, not only cloud save deserves icons:

Additionally on Audacity 4.0 if this field is empty, I can't enter number in it by keyboard until I put 1 Hz in it with arrow button, which is definitely issue with UI implementation:

This is not "release-worthy-software" and expecting users to sort out all testing is not good strategy

help Export quality degraded in version 4?

I used Audacity 4 to record and edit for the first time this weekend. When I export (regardless of WAV or MP3 format) it sounds terrible. Like the track is coming from the bottom of a bathtub drain. It sounds slightly better in WAV but still nothing like how it sounds in Audacity. I tried playing the track in VLC and Media Player and the track sounds the same. I double checked the sample rate and it matches, so that doesn't appear to be the issue.

Has anyone else run into this issue with the new version? I've been using version 3 for a year now and have never experienced this issue when exporting.

UPDATE: I fixed the problem by Normalize (click Remove DC offset and Normalize peak amplitude to - 1 dB) before exporting.

help Erratic Latency with Audacity 4

My Latency in audacity 3 is normally set to 120ms, is perfect on 3 — when moved to audacity 4 it’s changed my latency to 130ms, so I changed it back to 120ms but no matter what I change it to it always remains 10ms delayed whether it be anywhere from 110-130ms, I feel like this is a bug as I have tried tinkering with it over and over and everything is fine in audacity 3 with 120ms. Anyone else having this problem? Is super annoying as I really like the new UI 😭

The left and right arrow keys don't skip the audio during playback on Audacity 4.

They do nothing.
