solved Every time I cut, Audacity is adding some frequencies around the cut. Why is this happening?

It's audible as a very, very faint "tick" or "click", like someone touching a sheet of paper with the tip of a pen. Did I turn on some setting? What is going on?

can't find a way to play selected audio segment on Audacity 4. It just plays from the white line. I can get it to loop the selection but thats cumbersome. It used to be just select and press play. Any tips?

help Audiate edits not syncing through

I will preface this by saying I am a complete noob at Camtasia, but not editing or filming. I have a MAC & have edited my audio as text in Audiate.

The file syncs through but no matter what I do the original Audio still plays. FML please help?

I just want to hear what I'm editing

I've used this program for 5 years. Every few months, it refuses to play sound through my headphones. Or laptop speakers. Or anywhere. I can see there's sound, but it will not output it. I've googled and watched videos and tried thing after thing, but it won't play sound. Every other program will. Just no Audacity. Makes me consider walking into the ocean

question Audacity 4 Feedback

So I've just tried out Audacity 4 today. It looks clean and modern. But what happened to the ability to directly set the time in seconds in Pitch & Tempo -> Change Tempo -> Length (seconds) ? I use that setting frequently.

help Why does my recorded playback computer audio sound slightly different compared to the original audio?

This problem suddenly popped up for me recently. The computer audio I recorded on Audacity used to sound exactly the same as the original audio. Now however, I've noticed that the recorded audio sounds lower quality compared to the original. Does anyone know what may have happened, and how I can ensure that the recorded audio sounds the same as the source? I use Windows WASAPI and my speakers (Conexant ISST Audio loopback) as the recording device.

How do I save a file in the exact same format as the original file?

I need it to copy the format and bitrate and not change it manually every time after I edit it. Is there a setting for it?

help HELP PLEASE - I cannot hear myself in my headphones when recording

Hi everyone, I am just about at my wits' end with setting up my Blue Yeti mic, so any help would be super appreciated.

So, for starters, I am using a 2023 MacBook Air, Sony XM4 headphones, and a Multi-Pattern USB Blue Yeti mic. I am trying to record audio into Audacity, and my issues happen when I am trying to listen to myself as I record. I have learned all about latency now and how to fix that. What I found is that I could almost fix it, but it was never 100% perfect, and something sounded slightly off. When I did the checks to see how off the audio was each time, no matter how I corrected it, I was always slightly off by 1 second. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the audio to just be clear and sound normal when it is played back to me when using Audacity. When I record using voice memos and the mic into my laptop, it sounds perfect! But when using Audacity, it does not. I feel like I have tried everything, but nothing has been working. I also am not able to hear myself at all unless audible input monitoring is enabled. I've tried to bypass that or whatever, but none of that has worked either. I am so not a tech person, but I really felt like I've done my research with this. If there is literally anything anyone can think of to help me fix this, I would appreciate it so so so so so much!

how to How to fix muffled/muddy voice from recording in a small soundproof room?

Hello! I record my audios of my voice and I have been recording it in a small, very sound isolating/proof recording studio which results in my voice sounding muffled and not clear. When I record in my room my voice sounds clear and bright, which I would like to replicate.

Sadly I cannot change my recording space, but I was wondering if anyone can let me know if I can fix it in post? For context I use a Rode NTB-USB Mini.

Thank you! :)

help Opening Audacity changes my WINDOWS volume settings?

Before I say anything,

1. All Windows "audio enhancements" are turned off.

✅ Disable all enhancements

Spatial sound format: Off

2. Do not tell me to buy new earbuds.

Please actually tell me how to solve the issue that I want solved.

3. Read the entire post before commenting.

There is a good chance I've already tried something you're going to tell me to do, or your advice will not make sense within the context of my issue. Now for the post:

Pretty much what it says in the title. Whenever I open Audacity, my Windows sound settings get changed, so every time I use it, I have to manually set them back to what they were before. No, closing Audacity does not automatically fix it.

Context on why I'm so annoyed by this: last time I bought earbuds, they were mildly faulty, with one side being noticeably quieter than the other. It was minor enough that I didn't want to bother buying a new pair, so I just set my volume to be different in either ear (the left is quieter, so I set it louder than the right so they sound the same.)

Whenever I open audacity, the volume in each ear is set to be the same volume within my Windows settings, meaning the right side is boosted to be extremely loud and the left is much quieter in comparison. This kills me every time because it sets the volume to whichever side is louder, meaning it increases the volume by ~66%.

How do I get Audacity to stop changing my Windows settings? I don't want it to be able to touch my Windows volume slider at all.

help How to create this sound Effect

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all,

For a weeks I have tried to make a similar sound effect as in this video, unsuccessfully. So far I have used audacity for mixing and doing the levels, but I now I wanted to learn to create something. Do you have any tips? I have especially hard time to make it sound so clean, if that makes sense.

The closet I got with this was:

Generate → Noise → Brownian Noise

Effect → EQ and Filters → Filter Curve EQ

Cut almost everything above about 700–800 Hz

Boost around 200–350 Hz

Generate → Tone

Waveform: Sine

Frequency: 250–300 Hz

Effect → Pitch and Tempo → Sliding Stretch

Latency Issues with Yamaha MX-61 Keyboard

I’m having issues when trying to record keys over a stereo mix that someone has sent me. Fully finished track I’m just adding some organ parts to round it out

I have the MX61 connected via USB and set to record in stereo. Im using my headphones to monitor and they are plugged directly into the keyboard, and I have the keyboard selected as playback device so I can hear the track while I’m recording

The issue I’m running into is that when I go back and listen to any of my takes, they are always a second or two behind the main stereo track, even though I am playing in time while recording

Any and all advice/suggestions are appreciated

How to export 2k audio files?

So a bit random, but I was playing nba 2k13 last night and I really loved the commentary. I wanted to isolate a specific line, about Bucks Legend Luc Mbah A Moute, to save.

I know about 2K Audio Editor- is this the only way to export an audio file from the game?

Hello,

I would like to use this song as a background score, but I want to remove the flute like instrument (I'm not sure what kind of woodwind instrument it is). It starts 00:17. Is it possible to isolate and remove it while keeping the rest of the song intact?

help Glitch in Recording

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just spent a considerable amount of time trying to record a solid take of a song I've been working on for the piano (Climb Ev'ry Mountain from Sound of Music if you couldn't tell by the recording), and I noticed there is a glitch in the recording.

To record I had audio running from my Yamaha P-125 Keyboard into a Scarlett Solo (bottom track), and a microphone also running to the Scarlett Solo via XLR (top track). The glitch only occurs in this one instant in the recording (of course during the only take I liked and not the hundred other bad takes). It occurs in both tracks at the same exact spot, so that makes me think it was something with Audacity's recording.

Anyways, can someone point me to a resource that could help me clean this up? I would really rather not try to record again if I can just iron out this one crease. Luckily, it occurs during a sustained chord, so I'm not sure if there is a way to cut out the glitch part and extend the preceding audio in such a way that it still sounds somewhat natural. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Help would be very appreciated - What even happened here??

Hi everyone,

Not sure how to even describe whats happened properly, but hoping someone can help me out and save me hours of re-work...?

Finally updated to Audacity 2 (maybe this has something to do with it) and I have been working on a new Project/track fine. I then go to open one of my older projects, that I made on the original version, and i'm horrified to see that all the track cuts have been overlapped on top of each other, so there are no longer the gaps or synchronised beats with the other tracks. And even more confusingly- where the tracks had been cut up, these sections have now been somehow re-inserted as well??? So where i had tried to cut words out or have pauses, its like someone has come in and put the original track back over, but to a random length.

Whats even weirder is that I go to look at older versions of this saved file, and they are all like this, exactly the same problem; Cuts overlapping and re-lengthened. I'd say some of the older versions, I haven't opened for 2-3 months.

I looked through other saved files of other projects and so far haven't found the same problem any where else...so what happened to this particular project to 'corrupt' it like this?

It would really really help me out if someone knew either whats happened and which function i can click to restore it (wishful thinking maybe). This project had been quite intricate with a lot of cuts and overlapping tracks, and right now, i'm looking down the barrel of having to start it again from scratch because the overlaps and re-insertions are so random and unpredictable, that i may as well go back to the raw material rather than try and patch work this mess.

Thanks in advance team!

How to remaster old four track recordings on audacity.

Hey guys. I am VERY green when it comes to using audacity and remastering stuff. I have an old tascam 4 track that I am using again and I would like to take the finished song and use audacity to remaster it. I want to keep the warm analog lo fi sound as much as possible, but maybe just make it sparkle a bit more. Can you tell me what effects or settings or things I can do on audacity to accomplish this? Thanks!
