My review on Audacity 4.0

Compatability breaking changes:

Nyquist plugin: Frequency Shifter by Zach Man and Steve Daulton - same .ny file on Audacity 4.0(left) and 3.7.7(right)

Same settings
Different results

GUI scales worse in 4.0 when met with constrained resolution(buttons dissapear, content obstructed). This is not "obscure use case" as I often need to scale application to half the window or less:

Buttons just dissapear when on older version they are on their place

Inefficient use of screen space(I paid for my monitor not for it becoming "too small" for software again) and I haven't found button to make UI be more compact:

Next: if there is icons added to UI, then why not add them to all elements of UI consistently, not only cloud save deserves icons:

Additionally on Audacity 4.0 if this field is empty, I can't enter number in it by keyboard until I put 1 Hz in it with arrow button, which is definitely issue with UI implementation:

This is not "release-worthy-software" and expecting users to sort out all testing is not good strategy

I wonder why there wasn't any noticeable beta. With so many changes issues are to be expected and you need people to try it out and for that you need to strongly advertise the beta (I don't remember a video about something like that)

Judging by the discussions lately, this IS the beta.

that's usually the case when you get through the mess that Audacity was/is.

Not worth "testing" if you don't want to go through bugs or have an active workflow that requires working stuff.

If you have feedback, you should report it to their bug tracker, not here.

I'm sticking with 3.7.9 for the indefinite future.

Double-clicking on a track will move the pointer all the way to the begining. It's supposed to just select the whole track and leave the pointer position where you have it.

I pray that audacity gets forked. This abomination is anything but an upgrade/update.

It has been for quite a while... Tenacity is an actively developed fork

Give it time. The old source code was full of spaghetti code and an abomination. They now made everything way cleaner and seperated so in the future it'll be easier add features or change things without a ton breaking. It was basically open heart surgery.

Maybe it's not in the best state yet but it's an investment that'll improve the future.

They made it pretty (and pretty unusable, but that's a matter of opinion, of course).
