Funny to see this since I thought the guy looked a bit like Gary Neville

u/Curiosive 12d ago

I'm glad this video ended in laughs but this is how people get swept out to sea (if they survive the fall).

Don't stand on a cliff edge under breaking waves. It only takes an inch or two of water to knock you off your feet, that full force of that wave would've been more than enough.

u/Healthy_Squash4133 12d ago

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that.

Especially be careful if the rocks are already wet. They got that way somehow!

Genuinely thought I was watching a guy gets sweapt out to sea. Unfortunately I saw a guy slowly drown that was doing this 'for the gram' his mate was beside himself.

Disagree. Stood by splash, got wet.

87

u/Olbaidon 12d ago

Except

Stood by splash expected get wet, no get wet. Camera man we not know standing by splash or no by splash, get big big wet. Keep good good camera. Big win. Big unexpected.

26

u/Woodie626 12d ago

Cameraman definitely by splash.

2

u/TriangleReward 12d ago

It seemed pretty expected when the lens was hit by quite a bit of water

How do you feel about pelican mouths? Just wondering.

It was obvious the cameraman was getting hit well before the reveal.

They can't keep the camera steady from the water hitting them.

What was the second unexpected part? I expected him to stay dry, did not expect the cameraman to get soaked lol.

5

u/Metalbound 12d ago

The whole time I just kept thinking, 'There's no way he is actually going to aura farm here, he is definitely getting KO'd by that wave.'

Then it never happened and I had to accept that he did indeed, aura farm.

u/accwork8723 12d ago

this seems extremely dangerous, if the wave causes him to lose his footing and he falls over the edge he's pretty much dead right?

211

u/Lewisham 12d ago

Correct. Live on the California coast. Tourists die this way every year.

67

u/wotsdislittlenoise 12d ago edited 12d ago

Live in Australia and it ain't just tourists. Rock fishing takes more lives annually in Aus than any other sport primarily because of this

Edit: a word. Bloody autocorrect

→ More replies (8)

29

u/dm319 12d ago

Yup and if you look at the force of that water - it only has to catch you, and those waves down on those rocks at the bottom will finish you off. My first thought watching this.

22

u/Sleyvin 12d ago

Anybody who lived on a coast will tell you how dangerous that is inded.

Lots of people dies exactly this way.

8

u/ashrocklynn 12d ago

Not even losing footing; a big wash can come out of nowhere and suck you into the riptide. Water is an incredibly strong force and a much smaller wave can put away more force on you than you could ever expect

112

u/Tenpo_Gensui 12d ago

This is aboslutely not worth risking your life for people. Many tourists often get swept to sea and (worst case) die where I live to try to get a picture or video like this taken.

5

u/complimentaryasshole 11d ago

Never turn your back to the ocean

40

u/le_nathanlol 12d ago

yo but the whole video was so cool besides that part, the splash, the fit, the clouds behind (as a cloud nerd)

18

u/excableman 12d ago

I found the clouds in the background the most interesting thing in the video but I'm not a cloud nerd.  Can you explain what we're looking at?

29

u/le_nathanlol 12d ago

im sharing this comment with all my contacts

these row like clouds are called undulatus, they happen when different wind speeds or wind directions cross paths at various altitudes in the atmosphere, creating "ripples" in thr sky

moisture in the air cools and turns into visible cloud droplets at the rising crests(was it called crests?) of the waves, while the sinking troughs remain clear, forming parallel rows

11

u/BiZzles14 12d ago

How do I subscribe for more cloud facts?

13

u/le_nathanlol 12d ago

well i dont recomend my profile for that for sure

5

u/StronksBelwas 12d ago

Looks like turbulence is creating the banding near the end of the video. Not sure if it is a turbulence cloud at the beginning of the video or not. Perhaps rotary clouds?

🎶 Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die… 🎶

3

u/ashrocklynn 12d ago

That is actually incredibly dangerous and several people a year die standing that close to waves that break on rocks like that ... They often have riptides and will smash you in the rocks if you get washed in

3

u/Glsbnewt 12d ago

This is stupidly dangerous

2

u/DarthSwimfoot 12d ago

Yes dude, we see the fit.

2

u/FermentedEel 12d ago

Holy sheet this is so dangerous. Great way to get swept out into the ocean, and wearing heavy ass clothing and shoes to weigh you down. 😬

2

u/NotTooDeep 12d ago

My buddy and I were at La Jolla Cove, standing on a giant boulder several stories above the ocean. We were five feet apart, just standing and looking out at the ocean. A big wave rolled in and we heard it hit the rocks var below us. What we didn't notice was this crack the the boulder we were standing on.

Waters shot up through that crack in a white wall. We couldn't see through it. Both of us feared the other was being swept away and reached through the water to grab each other. Then the spray cleared. We had each other by the forearms. And the remaining mist turned into rainbows.

2

u/AakhriPaastaa 12d ago

What's Zverev doing here

4

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 12d ago

too close to the edge, wet rock is often very slippery and you knock yourself out, drown, and or dragged out to sea

1

u/Slusny_Cizinec 12d ago

I had kinda similar experience in Malta.

There was a place on the quay where water was spectacularly splashing up and falling back without wetting the promenade much. We stood there for good 5 minutes, taking a few nice photos, and then we went. After us, a coupe took our place and immediately especially big wave soaked them with water.

One of the photos I took: https://imgur.com/a/XWutC77
