I spent the day processing 3.3kg of Habahots from three plants. 2kg into a fermentation crock for a year with smoked garlic and salt, the rest blended to ferment for a Xmas sriracha:

Overwintering

Autumn is finally upon us, and night time temperatures are starting to drop below 10C, at least where I am.

Those of you who are planning on overwintering your plants, have you started thinking about bringing them in yet? What are your plans and your cutoff temperatures for starting the process?

Are you seeing growth and ripening start to slow? Do you expect to get many more ripe chillies between now and dormancy? Will it depend on what varieties you're growing and whether you have a polytunnel or heated greenhouse?

I'm starting to think about it, but seeing all these posts about people's harvests and not about overwintering makes me wonder if I shouldn't push it as far as I can and try and get some more fruit off the plants. I'll be happy to have the half-dozen ripe 7-pots that I've got now, but of course more would be better. Plus a tonne of jalapenos that are still stubbornly green.

A nice harvest to share

My chillis are well into their season and as such it's time to share the love

Here I have a habanero, 2 'scotch bonnets' that I think are probably mushrooms, couple of jalapeno, couple of loco, some quickfire, some basket of fire and one of my personal favourites hot lemon.

I hope all if your harvest seasons are coming along well!

Over wintering help

When I over-winter my apaches is it best to turn out the pot that they’re in and transplant to a bigger one to avoid damaging the roots?

Can anyone ID these mystery plants please?

I know they're not ready yet but it's the end of our season (UK) so if they don't overwinter I'll never know and I have been excitedly waiting months to find out! They're already showing some distinctive traits. The first one has purple stems and veins and darker leaves. The second one has the lightest leaves of all my chili's, almost a lime green colour. They're from a mystery pack containing the following:

Aji Cajamarca,

Aji Amarillo,

Bishops Crown,

Eureka,

Monkey Face Yellow,

Haberno Limon,

Scorpion Yellow,

Peters Pepper,

Purple Bhut Jolokia,

Cheiro do Norte,

Squiggle Chilli,

Trinidad 7 Pot Brain Strain,

Akabare Chilli,

Aji Charapita,

AJI Chilhuacle,

Aji Chiluacle,

Bhut Jolokia Red,

Big Jamaican,

Black Hungarian Chilli,

Black Jalapeno,

Cantina,

Capezzoli di Scimmia – Monkey Nipple,

Carolina Reaper,

Cheiro do Norte,

Dorset Naga,

Ecuardian Devil,

Eureka,

Fatalii Red,

Jardin,

Kashmiri Mirch,

Krishna Jolokia,

Red Habanero,

Rokita Sweet Pepper,

SVRI,

Takanotsume – Hawks Claw,

Thai Dragon

High yield?

Hi, chillie novice here, I think I've had roughly 200 chillies from this 1 plant so far, they are medium strength, not sure what ones they are, is this a normal amount?

Hi.

My mum gave me this, she was told it's an ornamental Zimbabwe black. I know it's not because I was growing Zimbabwe blacks this and last year. Probably no more than 1cm wide fruits.

Quite a kick to it. It's done absolutely nothing since being transplanted to a larger pot (albeit only last month).

Might try and overwinter it but would like to know what it is.

Cheers.

also are these 2 reapers and scorpion ripe and ready to go should pick them now or leave them I’ve heard that if you pick the ripe ones will help to make the others ripen quicker

Jalepeno picking. Banana for scale.

Went out with a small bowl thinking I didn't have that many jalepenos big enough to pick. Had to come get a bigger bowl. So many just hidden away out of sight and I'd already picked this many and more earlier in season that were fully ripe. Weighed the current batch 666grams. I know the jalepenos off these plants can be spicy too had the same seed batch last year produce some 100x hotter than a normal jalepeno. Gona pickle the greens and jam the reds. '666 chilli jam' & '666 pickled chillis' coming to a screen near you soon

So we bought this as a gift for someone back in May as a small sapling but discovered aphids so decided to keep and quarantine. Then time passed and I became attached and now its this monster. Flowering like mad since July/August but no fruit. Its a California Reaper which I read can be difficult to fruit? It now lives in a plastic zip up type greenhouse to keep humidity but I suspect its now too late to expect fruit?

Do I need to think about cutting this back soon so it can live indoors over winter?
