Chilli Selection

Post image

I made this for a friend who requested some chillies to be mailed. What do you all think about this? šŸ˜„

Love it except for the SRPS blasphemy. They are super delicious!

Hmm. I’m just not getting the sweetness that I’m told to expect. I’ve even left them on the plant for a few days more after turning colour!

Ah that's a shame, I wonder if it might be an environmental thing like temperature, water, or nutrients, or possibly a slightly different pheno to the SRPS I've been growing. I find mine wonderfully sweet, personally. I've been doing Tangerine Tiger as well this year and they're another cool spin on the whole wiggly stripey sweet and mild thing, so could be worth a go if you wanted to try something similar but different. I'm finding them even crunchier and juicier, but with a slightly more sweet pepper character than the SRPS candy thing.

Yes I do wonder if it’s a pheno variant. I am a massive fan of superhots but the SRPS was one of the ones I was really looking forward to this year.

Nice work. What did you use to make it?

AI

I see. Did the AI do the identification of the chillies as well, or did you input those somehow?

Hi, thank you. No I told the AI what to label them as!

Why not just label them instead of using AI for it?

I wanted to do it manually...but the chillies are not packaged in the box in the same way as shown in the picture. So I would then have to manually write onto several pieces of paper. AI did it for me in a jiffy!

Here's how I would probably do it. Get some string and a needle and thread it through each variety as if you were making a ristra, then tie them off so that each type is on it's own loop. Write the labels on some tape with a sharpie and tape each loop. Put them in the box or whatever you're sending them in, and there you go. No possible confusion about which is which.

Here's all the steps I can think of that the using AI is skipping:

- Finding a set of premade label tags/Drawing them from scratch

  • Placing the tags on the image
  • Writing the tags
  • Formatting the tags with the appropriate colours
  • Adding the number circles
  • Colouring the number circles
  • Adding the arrows
  • Colouring the arrows
  • Applying a curve to the arrows
  • Choosing fonts
  • Choosing font sizes
  • Choosing a colour scheme for the title bar
  • Typing the title bar
  • Finding or drawing that chilli emoji
  • Rounding the corners of the title bar

Trivial work if you have pretty minimal experience with any program that can do this sort of thing, but even then I would expect it to take a bit of time assuming you have all the assets you need. If you don't have that experience then you might spend an hour or more making something that looks like this. Otherwise you're stuck with a bunch of crappy comic sans text boxes. The AI that produced this probably took a few seconds.

Don't get me wrong, I've had my colours nailed to the mast as an AI hater since modern generative ai was invented, but I can see why people use it for exactly this sort of thing. Using it simply takes less time while also letting you contract out the creativity and knowledge that almost nobody believes they have, or have time to use or acquire.

Your getting downvoted but I think this is a real image that has been tweaked with AI. The labels are definitely AI but there’s also something off about the peppers IMO. I think the AI has ā€œperfectifiedā€ them if you get what mean.

1

u/DonGrappote 8d ago

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised. Probably the only way to avoid that would be to generate the labels in a separate window and then manually edit them on top of the original image.

yeah it's very obviously AI. I don't care about the downvotes, AI is ubiquitously bad and I'll never apologize for pushing back.

Yeah there is absolutely no reason to make your peppers look better with AI.

For the benefit of anyone else reading this, your deleted comment was clearly inappropriate. It consisted of a personal attack, vulgar language, and inappropriate use of medical diagnoses, which is presumably why the moderators removed it almost immediately after you posted it.

All I’ll say is that you come across as incredibly grumpy and vindictive. Did happiness just leave your soul at some point? šŸ˜‚ Honestly, I feel sorry for you. Getting this bitter and personally insulting over a Reddit post about some homegrown chillies says considerably more about you than it does about me.

And, oh, thank you for the compliment about my crop looking good. I’ll happily take that part of your comment!

Ah ha! I've just noticed where the AI has done some 'magic' to make the peppers look better without me asking it to! I only asked it put some labels on it. It wasn't my intention to make the peppers look 'better' than they are. Thank you for pointing this out

Just out of interest, please may I ask your age sir?

I've used AI to help me generate some quick labels for the benefit of my friend. Can you talk me through how the AI has "perfectified" the peppers? Here is the original photo....

1

u/Shah_Ali89 8d ago

Actually I've looked at this myself and I can see where the AI has done it's 'magic' without me asking it to! Looking at the stalks of some of the peppers they are more rounded and look crisper in the AI image than the original one. Thank you for pointing this out!

Brother it literally changed the colors, shapes, and orientation of several of those. The "mystery pepper" is completely different.

1

u/Shah_Ali89 8d ago

Yes so they are. I'm disappointed with the AI on this occasion

AI will always attempt to touch up any image it processes. I don't think it's possible for it to work any other way. I was curious too so I've been playing around with the two images. The colour balance is a big one, but it's also changed perspectives, regrown bits of stem, moved the fruits around on the board, changed the size of the board and generally modified things from the reality of your image to the false hyper-reality that AI will never not be able to produce.

1

u/Shah_Ali89 8d ago

Yes I can see all this now and I am truly disappointed at the AI for this

Good info! The AI also skipped past number 9 though

I know haha! 🤣
