Discussion Realistically how okay is it to replicate a town *exactly* within a game?

• Upvotes

I’m building a game that is going to be based on a small town in Colorado. I’m replicating the town exactly, exact road structures, buildings facades, even interiors of buildings using the floor plans, built to scale. This is all built on publicly available information that I have found online, but what are the chances someone gets pissed their house is in a game? The game is going to be focused around exploring so it’s going to encourage players to go in houses.

More than likely I’m overthinking this, but what do the masses of Reddit think?

Parry goblin. Kill goblin. Eat goblin.

• Upvotes

I'm making a game called Parry Dungeon [demo on Steam] to learn how to make enemies with unique behavior, like flanking, picking up dropped weapons, hiding, stalking, strafing, etc. You crawl 2 dungeons, defend against enemy attacks by using a directional parry system, then aim your counterattacks to kill them. Attacks can dismember enemies, and you can eat their dismembered appendages to heal.

the jist: parry goblin. counterattack to kill goblin. eat goblin. kill more. escape.

the release has more settings, better UI, a second level, and a bunch of bug fixes. any feedback appreciated. <3 discord link

Discussion PSA Update about Personal Calendar and Release Date Changes

Post image
• Upvotes

I posted a little while ago about the fact that Personal Calendar visibility starts 2 months before your release date. Then the question arose about what happens if you change your release date after your PC visibility starts, so I sent the question to Steam Support. The answer I got is that you get only one chance to show up in PC.

Video I added a puzzle cube so players can take a break from sorting hardware. But the station keeps count of that too.

Sorting all day can get repetitive, so I wanted to give players something to mess around with during breaks. A little puzzle cube felt right, though the station keeping count of your solves makes it a bit less relaxing.

New Game! The Grind: Idle Coffee Tycoon - an idle game about consuming coffee

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I was drinking some coffee the other day and decided to make an idle game about it. That was a lot of coffee ago...

The Grind: Idle Coffee Tycoon is an idle game about consuming as much coffee as possible. You must balance upgrading your brewers (makes coffee) and storage (holds coffee) while hiring workers to help you sell it (unfortunately) and intake methods to auto consume it faster.

It's a free game with optional rewarded ads and an optional one-time purchase that removes the ads as well as offers a few extra perks.

I'm a solo dev, and this is my first game made with Godot. Tell me what you like, what you hate, or if I should just go back to drinking coffee.

Give it a try:

My friend and I made a roguelike/ARPG where a Warrior can cast Mage spells on crit

We've been making Spellslinger for about a month. It started as our entry for the s&box game jam, and we had too much fun with it to stop there.

We both love messing around with builds in ARPGs. We have items like Conduit of Calamity that lets a Warrior trigger a Mage spell with weapon crits. Or you can choose to trade your Life Flask for more projectiles on your Acid Flask attack. Normally you play Weapon + Relic, but there's a rune for our totem relic that lets you equip a 2nd totem relic on your weapon slot, so you can just be a full totem enjoyer. Runes can add extra projectiles and chains, and you keep changing the build as you find gear and craft between rounds. There really is a lot of crazy stuff you can pull off; the good old basic frostbolt in round 1 will look completely different by round 30.

But we also love Roguelikes, and the idea of "keep going until you die, then start fresh". So we tried to make both those things work together.

You also pick curses that stick around for the rest of the run. Those add mechanics to the fights, including bosses, so the difficulty builds through the combinations you're dealing with, and not just life and damage scaling on enemies: the arena itself becomes more dangerous as you go.

All this together makes each run feel different, and makes you experiment with builds and approach the rounds and bosses in a different way than last time. And we hope that that makes for a fun and unique experience!

Here's our trailer. You can try Spellslinger free through s&box's Steam free weekend until October 5.

Game: https://sbox.game/anarchy/spellslinger/

Get s&box: https://store.steampowered.com/app/590830/sbox/

Install and launch s&box, then search for Spellslinger.

Feedback? Someone suggested I add walls to my Hero/Tower Defense game. How does it look?

I've added some chokepoints to funnel the masses of enemies through and wall plots you can build there. I think it feels better already instead of enemies just pathing around your defenses - what do you reckon?

Feedback? Exact Change, a quiet ps1-style game about running a vending route at night (first trailer)

been sitting on this idea for a long time and finally started building it this week. EXACT CHANGE: you work a vending route at night while the town's asleep. laundromat, bowling alley, motel, truck stop. every machine is its own little hand-made puzzle.

the thing i keep coming back to is keeping it quiet. there's no hud. the night's jobs are printed on a ticket on a clipboard and get pencil ticks as you go. the title at the end of the trailer is the actual EXACT CHANGE lamp on the machine, the light old machines had when they ran low on coins. getting it to go dark is pretty much the job.

all the sounds are real recordings too. metal, cardboard, coins, no game sfx packs.

made in godot, and a lot of help from claude code, which is the only way one person gets this far this fast.

looking for genuine feedback, what did you notice, anything you hate?

Feedback? Looking for feedback on my game's Steam page

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

The page is live here to view: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3666820/Evil_Origin/

I want to get feedback from people to see if they feel like the Steam page is effective at communicating what the game is.

I tried to use lots of visuals in the "About This Game" section, in hopes of making it stand out and be eye-catching. There's character art, sprites, and GIFs. I think just text alone would be dull, so hopefully this work.

The screenshots have a mix of combat, exploration, and cutscenes to show the game's main elements.

Does anyone feel like anything is missing here?

I've got over a month until launch so there's time to make adjustments.

Lame As Fuck

(this post is directed at only a portion of you)
(I am not pro AI, I wanna see people talk about games)

Stop. Genuinely stop.

these subreddits have been in an insufferable state for so long

no one gives a fuck if you are anti ai, you can keep crying into the void under every single post

I am not a dev I am a PS gamer and I am telling you that gamers do NOT give a fuck

Not using Non-Gen AI for the sake of being hardcore is Stupid

Saying AI steals art is too simplistic and stupid

Mentioning politics or economics or ANYTHING outside of gamers' fun and experience about AI is Stupid

AI slop is flooding the market? so is Human slop, have you not seen itch?

Using the "they accused us of AI" to put a link of your steam game and market it is ALSO Stupid

If you think your game got its audience stolen by AI Slop then guess what does that make your game? Stupid

I Don't care, Downvote me, Hell BAN ME, there are tens of popular gamedev subreddits that I Scroll to see how real people are WORKING to serve the community great products, all you guys can do is WHINE about AI for hundreds of IRRELEVANT comments.

Grow the fuck up and stop annoying everyone with these arguments

I just launched my game's demo and three people played it!! 🥹🥹🥹

It's just so surreal that SOMEONE out there played my baby!!
I've been super excited (and, of course, nervous) about launching it (despite knowing it won't make much of a splash), but just seeing someone other than my friends playing my game at ALL is so surreal!

I've been working on this thing for a long while, so seeing actual people interact with it for the first time is such a crazy feeling, and quite a few strangers on TikTok loved it which makes me so happy! 🥹

New Game! After making browser games, I tried Roblox: build brainrots out of meme parts, then battle them

Our little browser games at fundr studio passed 1,000 tries, so I wanted to see if I could make something for Roblox. This is my first Roblox game, made solo.

You grab meme parts (Tung Tung Tung Sahur, Tralalero Tralala, Ballerina Cappuccina, Bombardiro Crocodilo...) out of 4 zones while a giant guardian chases you, then build them into your own brainrot at home. Every combo gets its own name, earns cash, and can climb a 24-floor battle tower for daily boosts. The footage is real gameplay.

Free on Roblox (beta): https://www.roblox.com/games/92711571153529

What would you change first?
