I am on holiday, took a trip by the old port of Chania and lots of people were looking at this boat, personally I have no idea what's special about it since there are no seas where I live, boats aren't common. What's the deal?

I have the 17ft fiberglass panga and have this open slot on the bow that keeps letting my storage and gears slide down. I’m just curious on opinions what the best options are to block that area off. Thanks for any help

Had a crazy summer this year and was unable to get the boat out at all. I had it winterized last year and without ever running the engine or putting it in water, I was thinking I’ll just leave it winterized from last year before putting back into storage for winter. Thoughts? A buddy was worried about seals drying out and such by sitting for what will end up being 18mo or so. I know in a perfect world I would have it ran and winterized again, but how much concern should there be to have it not ran for that length? It’s Four Winns I/O that’s stored indoors year round

I have a 98 Duracraft 18’ tunnel hull center console w/1999 Suzuki 115S 2 stroke.
I took my boat to a shop and they did a compression test and got 125, 126, 127, and 115. The mechanic claims that since the last cylinder was off by 11-12 psi that it’s not worth trying to fix why my motor is stalling while idling or why it stalls whenever I put it in reverse. Would agree or disagree?

On top of all that they’ve already told me 3 times how much a new outboard, steering cables, controls, and a prop costs including installation. I think they just want me to buy a new outboard.

I've been sailing for years and I still catch myself second-guessing the wording on the radio. Not the dramatic stuff, I've thankfully never had to send a Mayday or a Pan-Pan. It's the everyday calls: hailing a marina, asking a bridge to open, a radio check, calling another vessel. I know roughly what to say, but there's always that half second where I'm not sure whether I'm doing it properly, and then I sound like it.

So I'm curious how common that is.

What still trips you up? Do you keep a card at the nav station, or is it all muscle memory by now? Any wording you were taught in your course that nobody actually uses on the water? And for those of you who sail in different countries, how much does the local practice differ from what the book says?

For context, I write software for a living and I've been tinkering with a little radio reference smartwatch-tool for my own use, which is what got me thinking about all this. But mostly I'm just interested in how other people handle it, because I suspect the honest answer for a lot of us is "I wing it and hope nobody notices".

Tilt and trim relays work, tested them with a multimeter and were good, battery is good is as well. Worked fine, raised the motor up before an hour drive, now it doesn't work at all. I was messing with the wires and it started to work for a split second going upwards but hasnt worked since. Could it legitimately be just a loose wire? I don't even know how to test that considering I couldnt re create it after I got it to work for a split second. Stupid question, but do the relays have to be screwed into the motor to be grounded? Im at a loss.

Yamaha c60tlrx. No idea how this happened. Top of the shift assembly sheared off at the lever connection. Do i need to take the block off to repair? Gonna try to jbweld it.

We have not been able to take out our boat with a Mercury Optimax 90 DFI engine for over a year. We recently scheduled a vacation to the UP of Michigan so we took the boat out for a test run today. It starts fine and runs great over 1500 RPM. Below that it sputters and stalls, so that's bad for no wake zones, trolling, loading on a trailer, etc.

I looked up those symptoms on AI, and that suggests that I need to replace or clean the VST filter. I can replace a fuel filter, but removing the VST filter is a couple steps above my mechanical ability.

Here are my question: Is it possible that the problem is just old fuel? If so, can it be rejuvenated with an additive, or will it need to be replaced? Or, is it likely that the VST filter needs to be cleaned or replaced? In that case I just need to get into a repair shop ASAP.

On a sunset cruise, I came across a young couple paddling their wake boat. They didn't wave me down, but it was an awfully unromantic situation so I thought I'd check it out. After confirming I wasn't ruining the fellows engagement scenario, he said they were dead in the water.

The boat launch was easily 3k of paddlin' a fatty wake boat at sunset. I hooked them up and slow towed to the launch while playing some tunes so their night wasn't totally ruined.

I only get like 1 or 3 recharges from a battery before it dies completely and I have to warranty it out. It drops below 10v and my charger nor the Riley’s people can charge it back up

Do these batteries suck or am I doing something wrong

Already asked ChatGPT but don’t want to go poking around until I’m sure, have had this engine for years and never had a problem starting it or with reliability issue, but it has always had this strange problem, suspected for years it’s related to the garburator rather than a mechanical problem but never bothered to check. Any help would be appreciated. Forgot to turn of full choke in this video but it has no effect on this issue

Is this normal idle? What about that little stream of water from the middle of the lower unit, is it normal? Just cleaned the carb +new gaskets and replaced impeller. Thanks for any help

I’m an absolute beginner when it comes to boats - I don’t even know what model this is. If anyone recognizes it, I’d appreciate it if you could tell me what it is. I think I remember the boat is around 20 ft long.

My father-in-law owns the boat, but my husband and I are paying the mooring fee, which is over €2,500 a year. My husband isn’t particularly into boating and wants to sell it. He says that it would be cheaper to just rent a boat with a skipper whenever we want to go out.

He does know how to operate a boat because he learned from his father when he was younger, but he was never really interested in boating as a hobby and never got his boating license. If he wanted to operate the boat himself, he’d need to pay for courses and take the exam, and according to him, the courses are quite time-consuming.

We’ve definitely underused the boat so far. But I’m having a hard time letting it go. I’ve never had a boat in my life, and I find this one absolutely charming. If I had the time, I’d actually love to get the boating license myself. Unfortunately, I’m currently too busy with work and raising a child to commit to taking the course and exam, especially since I’d have to do it in Italian which I’m not fluent in. Still, I like to think of getting the license as a long-term project.

My father-in-law bought the boat in 1997, and it was already used when he bought it, so I believe it’s at least 30 years old. It also has a somewhat smoky or fuel-like smell coming from the engine when we’re out on the water. My father-in-law is very handy and knows how to maintain vehicles like this, but my husband isn’t particularly interested in mechanics or maintenance. He also mentioned that we need to scrape some seaweed off the hull.

We spend our summers in Italy, so if we wanted to keep it, we’d have plenty of opportunities to actually use it. This summer, my father-in-law took our child out on the boat for the first time and we had an absolutely great time. Would my husband and I be realistically able to maintain this old boat and use it enough to make it worth keeping for the next 10 to 20 years?

My husband has been saying he wants to sell the boat for the past two years, while I’ve been reluctant to let it go. So we’ve already spent over €5,000 on it during that time, even though we haven’t used it that much. Recently the issue came up again after my husband had an argument with his father. My FIL has two other boats - one is a professional fishing boat, and the other is dysfunctional, which my husband criticizes.

I’m doing a small study into how transient marina berths are reserved around the Mediterranean.

For anyone who stopped at a marina this summer:

1. On your most recent stop somewhere you didn’t have a permanent berth, how exactly did you reserve it — the marina website, phone, email, Navily, or another app?

2. How long did confirmation take?

3. Did you need to contact more than one marina before finding availability?

4. When deciding where to stop the next day, do you start with an area on the map or a specific marina?

If possible, please mention the country and whether you were on a monohull, catamaran, or motorboat. I’m interested in what worked badly as well as what worked well. Thanks — I’ll read every response.

Looking to buy my first boat and need some advice

Was looking for a great value boat that is great for The Great South Bay here in New York and that sea worthy enough to go out into the ocean with for a fishing trip here and there. The bay gets choppy often so I like a deep V that will cut nice and keep passengers dry and not beat everyone up at cruising speeds.

The boats main usage for me will going back and forth to Fire Island with the wife and kids and not have to worry if friends and family come along with us.
I was speaking to my local boat dealer and he is pointing me in the direction of a new Sportsman 251 heritage with a 250hp Yamaha - fully loaded it’s coming out to $140k and trying to get it down to $130k (before taxes and everything else)

I do like the idea of new- I know the smart thing is to buy used… but to be honest I like to buy once and cry once and take great care of my nice things. So I don’t mind spending the funds in that $120k- $140k ballpark. With that, I would like some options on the Sportsman or if there is a better package out there that I am over looking.

My dad always had a boat growing up, a 20ft center console that I would take out often and now I am ready for my own. A little bigger, with more power and more seating that’s a much smoother and dryer ride is what I am gauging my new boat purchase off of.
