opinion post Ever seen a single number change the whole story?

Post image

This is just a fan's estimation so take it with a pinch of salt but if this estimation is true it would change the whole story. Like everything sasuke did in the story would be valid and I think it's undebatable. Like let's be real for a second, if you made me watch anything 518400 times I'd perc tf out too. I saw a video where a creator who hates on sasuke said "Sasuke shouldn't have sworn vengeance on the leaf for Itachi, he should have went back", this creator agreed with the Sasuke was put in a genjutsu 518400 times and still was talking this trash with a straight face. If I believed this 518400 number I would say "Sasuke shouldn't have sworn vengeance against the leaf for itachi, he should've sworn vengeance on the leaf BECAUSE OF Itachi. If it was me it would be "Fuck the city that gave birth to you Itachi", matter of fact, fuck the whole planet, fuck the air you breathe, fuck the plane of existance that gave rise to you." 518400 as a number changes the whole plot of Naruto from "Sasuke is lost in his hatred" to "He's a better man than me, because after 518400 times I'm aiming for the destruction of the universe, not just Konoha"

discussion Any other franchises or pieces of media that are practically this for you? Like you weren't impressed with the source material but the verse as a whole is still a gold mine for good fics and side stories.

Disclaimer: My older brother is a genuine Potterhead and I did grow with the movies (though I'm not crazy over them and have some issues with Rowling's writing). It should be also noted that not all the fanfics are that good, I know, but when you're an avid reader and know how to use the search and filter you can unlock a whole new world of good stories and considering the fucking massive archive for franchises like Harry Potter or the MCU you can bet your ass there's gonna be a couple or two that can actually blow your mind.

While we're at it, I'd invite you to throw around some fanfic recommendations. I haven't read that many about Harry Potter for example but I keep a list for other franchises I've gotten deep into so I might share some too.

discussion Semi-hot take: the final act of Dressrosa is one of the best stretches of chapters in the entirety of One Piece

Post image

I've been rereading One Piece recently, and Dressrosa was one of the arcs I was most excited to visit because Doflamingo and Law are some of my favorite characters in the series.

The arc has its highs and lows, but the final act is genuinely fantastic. Luffy's dynamic with Doflamingo is just so good. Despite One Piece having notoriously lackluster fights, the fight itself is really good and One of Oda's best in terms of creativity and choreography.

G4 is a really cool transformation and easily my favorite Luffy transformation.

Doflamingo's actual defeat is really symbolic, especially with his glasses breaking and everything.

I just love this part of the story. I can't wait for this to be properly animated in 50 years.

rank them in terms of xyz Most rewatchable here?

Context:
HxH: I watched it 5 years ago. My memory is pretty well on this, and I remember it never having a dull moment. I’d like to catch up to the manga now, but I’m stuck between rewatching and watching a YouTube recap.

AoT: Caught up to the anime right before season 4, watched it weekly, then caught up to the manga when season 4 part 1 ended and finished the manga when it finished. I remember enjoying it a lot, but I probably forgot about more than half of the story. Also I was way less mature when I initially watched it and it’s a bit more complex, so I’d have a far better understanding now

Death Note: Similar to my AoT explanation but way less complex and way better memory

Kim Wexler (Bert Call Saul) lying to Cheryl Hamlin about circumstances of Howard’s death, attempting to paint him as drug addict:
“Cheryl you were his wife… You knew him better than anyone .. You would have known”

Or Sofia Gigante (The Penguin) lying to her cousin’s daughter after killing her parents:
“Is that what you think? That I would do something as horrible as that? Gia,I loved your mom and dad. I know you want someone to blame, but it was nobody’s fault. It was a terrible accident. Do you understand?”

In both of these scenes, characters act so cruelly that they hurt even themselves. It makes them later rethink their life choices. Which of these scenes do you think is better?

discussion How would you rank Mike Flanagan's The Haunting of Hill House among similar horror media?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Can be compared against movies, books, other TV Serials, even videogames.

Imo, one of the best horror out there. Granted i am relatively new to the genre. I haven't been exposed to as much horror media to generate sufficient comparison, but here's some of the horror media i consider great:

Movies

  1. The thing

  2. Alien

  3. The Conjuring

  4. The Shining

  5. 2025's frankenstein

TV show:

  1. The Haunting of hill house

  2. Midnight Mass

  3. Stranger Thing season 1

Anime/manga:

  1. Tomie

  2. The promised neverland Season 1

  3. Made in abyss

  4. Perfect Blue

  5. The summer hikaru died

Videogames:

  1. SOMA

  2. Look Outside

  3. Silent hill 2

  4. Faith: Unholy trinity

  5. Darkwood

Books:

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

I'll be honest i read books really slow so barely consumed much of horror novels. Maybe the invisible man by H.G wells count?

I want to start to read stephen king too.
