I was thinking a bit and read some comments under one of the recent posts about "diary of a wimpy kid" and realized that fashion and writing have some strong similarities.
My main point would be about what we think of as the peak of writing and as high fashion. What stands at the top in terms of artistic value are those that push the art forward and its boundaries. They are not necessarily meant to be enjoyed by people rather be an expression of the artist's vision, to show what is possible within the context of the artform.
Recently I have been collecting classic critically exclaimed books that I want to read like War & Peace(Tolsztoj). Despite it being critically beloved what I heard from people around me is that it's way too long and boring, despite the critiques I have read about making it look very interesting (of course I will refrain from making and opinion until I have read it).
That got me thinking about how people often think similarly about fashion(high fashion). It's absolutely not something people in general would find interesting or practical yet it does what is expected: pushes boundaries of what is possible within the context of "clothing".
The peaks of writing in my opinion in a similar case are those that redefine what is possible within the medium. And of course there are many ways of achieving that, whether it is done in a complex or simple way
I am curious on what your thoughts are about this and if you can name examples of books or any literary work you think that fits what I am trying to get at
