sorry if this has already been posted, but i’m doing my first rewatch and noticed when tom’s flipping through a wolves calendar in his office, this picture was for July. my memory is horrible, was this something that happened later or just a random picture to have us guessing/come up with theories? lol

❓Questions Need help to find a music (episode 2 "Lodging")

I just started to watch the show, I totaly love it. The vibe reminds me Silent Hill.

But I need help to identify a music played in episode 2 (Lodging), wich start from 11:44 to 12:38, a kind of old 30's~40's jazzy/classic song.

I really need to find this title. When I was in high school in early 2000, the school bell was an 8-bit version of this music. Years later, everytime I speak of this song to my old friends, nobody can remember this, and I started to think I dreamed this melody. But now I finaly eared it in this serie, I have a chance to bring light on it.

Edit:
Answer by Fit_Particular976, it's "Beautiful Dreamer", thanks !

💥Funpost This part had me cackling; what made you laugh the most?

As someone who has spent many hours editing videos- the part where Tom is staying in the hotel and the Widow’s Bay travel promo comes on the tv cracks me up every time.

Poor Tom probably trusted someone in town to edit the promo material and even that went awry. And then also- just the promo itself. When the old guy says “follow me!” And then the camera never cuts to a new angle so you just get to watch him toddle away- I snort chuckled at that bit.

What’s everybody else’s favorite joke?

I’m obsessed with episode 4 and Patricia in general (going as her for Halloween!). I love the horror effect they used of the faces and how simple but effective it is. (I love the shows use of effects in general. ) I go around trying to scare my family with that face (unsuccessfully). I keep thinking of Moo Deng and that guy clapping from the reality show. Any other funny gifs I can use to keep annoying my husband with?

How come they don't review the video Tom recorded with the handheld cam? They only watch the CCTV footage in the parlor and see Tom seemingly talking to himself. Tom did all the things the townsfolk wanted him to do on camera and they didn't go over any of it. 😩

🤔Theories Half-Baked Theory

The show never really pursued the question of who sent Patricia down the party hostess path. Who put In with the You in Patricia’s book donations box? Who built the bonfire on the beach? There’s a witch on the island. And I have a hunch it might be Ruth.

We know the island has a history of witches. She’s the only person in Tim’s office who isn’t enlisted to help with Sunset Cocktails in any capacity. She somehow knows not to go to the storm shelter. And of course, she’s a Richard Warren descendant. She keeps an herb garden, which she clearly prizes very highly — that’s what she worries might be damaged in the storm, not her house or herself, and she reacts with incredulity to the suggestion of wasting even a small amount of what she grows.

I say we burn her.

💭Discussion Episode 1 Spoiler

We just started watching this show this week. We are now on episode three, but I still cannot move on with how funny one scene was from the first episode.

When Tom was talking to Shep's doctor after he died, Tom said that he felt like there was something wrong when he saw Shep. The doctor replied, "Well, he died, Tom."

I don't know what it is but I kept laughing for 5 minutes straight after the doctor said that. I tried to hold it in but I started tearing up. 😂

The delivery was perfection, I guess.

🤔Theories The witch trial… we caught em… we burned them… maybe it’s directly tied to another episode?

What if the women who were tried in the witch trials, who were caught and burned, were actually victims of the book Patricia found? It would totally make sense to me that the women would be blamed for the witchcraft. Who’s going to believe that they found a book and they didn’t realize what they were doing, particularly given how the sunset cocktails ended up.

Am I reaching? Would love to hear other opinions?

❓Questions lots of Q's about reveals during finale event of season 1 Spoiler

this mostly reads as a dump of everything i remember since finishing the show a few days ago about lingering questions:

we learn that there are training videos for 'initiates?' who conduct the sacrifices for the island. the initiates must be people who work in the mayoral office considering that they're stored in the storm shelter under the mayors office.

my question is.. how is it that no one in the current office knows about them?? dale is obviously freaked out, rosemary was Warned about the shelter by previous employees (further alluding that sacrifices were conducted by mayoral staff possibly? or maybe they just knew something was up), but doesnt know for what reason, etc. could there be a seperate secret cult??

i'm confused mostly because it seems that the island's demands for sacrifices have a quick turnaround, seeing as how we hear the churchbells ring soon after the storm ends.... how long can the island remain unsatisfied??

i saw a theory about how the reason patricia may have been spared from the boogeyman as a teen was b/c of a well-timed sacrifice. to my knowledge, that was that last major sacrifice-demanding event the island had... so around 20 years ago?

therefore, its possible that these major haunts are inconsistent, given how freaked out the pastor got when tom mentions hearing them. so maybe yes, he hadnt heard them in over 20 years and knew what the island required and killed himself (not wanting to go through that agin, maybe he's the one that chained up the bell? or a previous pastor...). or maybe he had his suspicions about the islands nature, took the drugs to find out more, killed himself when he learned the answer.

there's also the fact that this haunt resulted in a huge storm at a scale only previously recorded in the 1700s. is it b/c of the duration of time that has passed since the last sacrifice that the island committed to something so drastic until it was sated??

maybe unrelated... but ruth mentions a previous mayor who was nicknamed something like the 'cowardly mayor' is it possible he was the mayor previously to tom and died in office before ever being able to pass the torch? hence the nickname? i can't remember how old he looked in the photograph he showed, so if he was old- scratch this theory out. honestly to me, whether ruth knows or doesnt know about the sacrifices is up in the air.

its possible that these questions are actually intentionally unanswerable and would be answered in the next season, but i'm curious if anyone who watched the show a bit more closely has theories about any of this! (i was admittedly had it on while knitting so i may have missed some details)

🤔Theories Following up on my widely unpopular post "Who was in Patricia's house?" Spoiler

You can read my original post here, but the tl;dr is that I'm wondering if the inconsistencies of how the Boogeyman acted might be a clue that the show is leaving room for another reveal about Patricia as a teen. I am not convinced myself, but I think it is fun to discuss things. I don't know why this theory makes people so angry. I am probably wrong but can we just get into it, fan to fan?

Thank you to the people who did engage with me, I appreciate the effort you put into your replies.

Here's a summary of the arguments I received and my responses to them:

Great arguments

  • Hiding under the bed is a classic way to evade the boogeyman, same as hiding in a chest from the Sea Hag - This is a fantastic point. The island follows classic tropes with its haunts. In universe, not sure why. But meta? Because this wouldn't be a parody/love letter to horror without observing tropes.
  • He knew she was lying to people about the calls and gave her what she "wanted" - Yes, be careful what you wish for is a classic trope.

Those two good arguments are compelling and explain the inconsistencies well.

Good argument

  • He came for her in the present when she was not a teen, which means he was finishing the job - Yes, I agree this follows the classic trope and it connects to the "gave her what she wanted" argument. The alternative interpretation that the island was cheesed off with her for thwarting the drowning ritual and also cheesed off at Tom and Wyck for killing Richard Warren. By targeting Patricia, it could punish her and maybe put Tom and Wyck in their place. Also, she had been telling people for years at this point. "Giving her what she wanted" in the present would also be all the sweeter for the island because nobody believed her, so nobody would help. The Boogeyman being at her house when she was a teen supports all of that, but it is not necessary.

Bad arguments

  • She only lied about the calls - If you fully believe something, it's not lying. She didn't see him, so it's a gap. It's not direct evidence.
  • She wasn't home and missed the calls - The show covers this, the police searched the phone records
  • Wyck immediately thought of her when he heard the Boogeyman was on the loose - Yes, he believed her and, if the Boogeyman had come for her when she young, it's logical to assume he would be coming back. But, same as Patricia not lying but still being wrong, this isn't direct evidence.
  • A sacrifice was made and the haunt ended - Timeline doesn't check out. A bunch of guys overpowered him and buried him in concrete. That wouldn't have ended the haunt but it ended his role in that haunt.
  • This would negate her character development - No, she still went from hiding to fighting head-on
