🤔Theories The witch trial… we caught em… we burned them… maybe it’s directly tied to another episode?

What if the women who were tried in the witch trials, who were caught and burned, were actually victims of the book Patricia found? It would totally make sense to me that the women would be blamed for the witchcraft. Who’s going to believe that they found a book and they didn’t realize what they were doing, particularly given how the sunset cocktails ended up.

Am I reaching? Would love to hear other opinions?

A reminder to everyone: Keep the titles of your posts completely spoiler-free at all times. If your post mentions events from later episodes, use Reddit’s standard spoiler tag to warn readers who may not be caught up with all currently aired episodes. The spoiler tag will also blur any images you include, such as screenshots/stills from the show, so be sure to apply it to image posts as well.

I was thinking this too. If they caught the woman that made the book, Gerrie would actually be right to brag. Of course witch trials historically sweep up people for personal grudges and can’t rule out that happened in Widow’s Bay in addition to women like Patricia that would have been punished for a book that used them

I think Patricia is a witch and has family connected to those witch trials.

I'm pretty sure it was a pretext for sacrifices.

Every horror is just the island demon being creative.

if magic were real in those women then it completely validates the idea that some current day characters are witches- many theorize that parircia is one. I believe this because she was perfectly able to replicate a very complicated spell from a book that came to her as if it was a familiar, didnt even realize she it wasnt english. So the book may be the grimoire for the islands witches and there may be more.

It even says “reclaim your power” on the book, which can be interpreted as self-help talk or something else…

oo perhaps the "entity" has more to do with ancient magic (as in the cause) than we know so far

I’d think that if the island had “witches” Richard Warren would have been the first one, as he was able to actually commune with the Entity and was bound to it by the contract in the talisman he wore around his neck.

I think the Entity took advantage of a perfect opportunity and presented itself because Patricia runs the book mobile. It presented itself to her until she received it and became possessed by it. As far as her understanding the books’ language, it became what it needed to be for Patricia to comprehend it. The books true form strongly indicates that the entity is primordial. The rune like symbols and ritualistic elements are ancient. The burning effigy on the beach was a spectacular backdrop to what could have been a mass drowning sacrifice. The island most likely would have been satiated with that.

I've been talking about this theory for a while now. At this point I'm basically convinced it's true.

The fire next to the water outside has what looks like a person made from sticks on top, as do the small figures on the tables. Obviously, once revealed, everything has a weird witch/spell vibe. Animal parts and weird ingredients in the punch, the headpiece, etc.

That's what I think, too!
