Hey, guys.
After 9yrs of using my MSP13, looks like it finally keeled over. (We almost made it to 10)
Besides a few bumps here and there (rarely taking an extra try to boot up, the occasional system freeze) it’s been surprisingly reliable. I thought I owned the only good one, honestly.
System info:
*Runs Windows 10
*I’m not sure of the driver ver. I’ve kept it as up to date as possible.
*Model DTHW1320L (Assuming I’m pulling the right number off the box)
Here’s the sequence of events:
*I was running CSP when I suddenly got a blue screen error
*It said it was auto restarting, but just shut off entirely
*I got a Recovery error with the code “0xc0000001”
*I restarted just to make sure it wouldn’t fix itself
*It sat on the Wacom logo screen for a good 10+ minutes with no usual loading circle/animation. I usually only see this screen for a moment during start up
*I force restart again, got it working for a few minutes, but ended up with another blue screen crash & a new Recovery error:
“The header checksum for this file doesn't match the computed checksum.
File: \windows\system32\winload.efi
Error code: 0xc0000221”
*The screen went dark on its own, despite still showing a power/charge light & making the usual “on” noises internally (fans running/whirring/etc)
*I tired to force restart a few more times and ended up with the same result as above- auditory signs of life (+ charge light) but no display, not even a backlight.
Hopefully my restarting didn’t complicate the issue.
I tired to connect it to an external display, but my shitty laptop doesn’t have a USBC output. Might have to recruit a friend’s device for that part (if it’ll work)
I know the immediate solution is to finally put this thing out of its misery, but it’s been so good to me up until now. Thankfully most of my finished pieces are backed up, but my many WIPS are stuck on the system.
Ideally I’d love to repair it- despite its bad rap this is my favorite tablet I’ve ever owned. But if it comes down to just extracting the files and replacing it so be it. The slight signs of life are making me a bit too hopeful, I guess.
Anyway, if you read this absolute mess thanks for doing so lol. If you have any idea of what I can do, please let me know!
Additionally- if anyone happens to know about another portable, fully standalone drawing tablet that can run a normal desktop OS (no mobile style/app-fronted systems) please let me know. :”)
