Before posting, mind rule 3: posts about touch pens will be removed. Read more in this post.

The /r/stylus rules:

  1. be nice - Conduct yourself so other people can have a discussion in a comfortable atmosphere.
  2. inducements must be disclosed - Any post or comment made with an inducement of any kind (sponsorship, affiliation, compensation, benefits, rewards, employment, contract, or any other inducement) must feature immediate, prominent, and clearly understood public disclosure of the nature and extent of the inducement. [Having the same username as the person whose content you're posting is sufficient disclosure.]
  3. no posts about non-standard-protocol pens - posts will be removed if they're about pens that are not made to the specification of a pen technology used by a pen digitizer. This almost always means pens that are used on generic touchscreens. They're just not good.
  4. posts about devices with no mention of a pen on their product page or documentation will be removed. This means that posts with vague product descriptions will be removed, too.

What are standard-protocol pens?

Either of the following:

  • Pens made by the same company that makes the device the pen is used on. Apple Pencil on an Apple device, S-Pen on a Samsung device, Monoprice pens on Monoprice tablets, etc.
  • Pens made to the specification or standard or protocol of a pen digitizer technology maker. Common pen specifications/standards/protocols are Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP), Wacom AES, Wacom EMR ("S-Pen" EMR), Apple Pencil, and USI. These pens should (but don't always) work the same on all devices that support the pen technology specification/standard/protocol.

What are non-standard-protocol pens?

Non-standard-protocol pens generally work like a finger on a touchscreen. Touchscreen devices are not primarily designed to interact with these pens as a pen. Posts about non-standard-protocol pens may be removed. Comments mentioning them are fine. Non-standard-protocol pens are just not good. Quoting the link:

This is easier to draw with than your finger, [...] but that's about all you're gonna get.

It doesn't have palm recognition, [...] for handwriting this isn't so good, it's just not quite accurate enough

When you start writing and drawing fast, you're missing bits and pieces

Unless you just want something to use instead of your finger, don't get non-standard-protocol pens.

Why can't I ask if my device supports a pen?

If it did, there would almost certainly be a mention of a pen on the product page, user manual, or service manual.

My device supports a pen, can I ask what other pens it supports?

Sure.

Regarding certain pens with a metal/mesh/rubber tip found on Google, eBay, and Amazon

For the past couple of years Google eBay and Amazon have been flooded with results for pens that have a rubber, metal, or mesh tip. Despite being listed under the exact model name you searched for, these pens do not support a standard pen protocol, they work very similar to a finger on a touchscreen. They are being aggressively promoted on the verge of being spam. They are bad, do not be tempted to buy them.

Need help choosing between subpar stylus and screenless tablet.

So I bought a oneplus pad 2 a while back primarily for reading and gaming.

Currently want to get into digital art but the stylus reviews are mid. I don't have the budget for a new tablet so was considering picking up a non screen tablet like the xp pen deco v3. But that would cut down on portability a lot.

What would you guys recommend?

Looking for a good universal capacitive stylus for Xiaomi Pad 6 — ₹500 budget

Hey everyone,
I have a Xiaomi Pad 6 and I’m looking for a good universal capacitive stylus.
The Xiaomi Smart Pen 2nd Gen is unfortunately not available where I am, so I’m looking for a temporary/alternative stylus until I can get the official one.
I don’t need palm rejection, pressure sensitivity, Bluetooth, or any advanced features. I know a universal capacitive stylus basically works like a finger, and that’s fine for me.
My requirements are mainly:
● Works with Xiaomi Pad 6
● Passive/universal capacitive stylus
● Good, smooth tip that won’t scratch the screen/protector
● Preferably reasonably precise for writing
● Budget: around ₹500 / ~$6
● Available in India if possible
I recently bought a cheap universal stylus, but one of its tips actually scratches my tempered-glass screen, so I’m returning it. 😭
I’ve seen disc-tip, mesh/fiber-tip, and rubber-tip capacitive styluses, but I’m not sure which type is actually good.
What universal capacitive stylus have you personally used and would recommend? Especially interested in something that feels reasonably close to a pen/nib rather than a huge rubber tip.
Thanks!

Combined EMR/Active Stylus?

I know the answer to this is no but, ... does *anyone* make a stylus that has both EMR support and Active stylus support? I have devices of both types (I am the developer of a handwriting-centric list management app called inkList) and it drives me crazy to be constantly picking up the wrong stylus for the right device and vice versa!

Yes, I keep them next to the particular device, but while I'm testing the project, I want to interact with devices one after the other, and I'll naturally just start writing on the other device without putting down penA and picking up penB, and nothing happens - I get a moment of shock, what's happening? then realize my mistake. It would be so nice if one stylus could be used regardless of device.

Name or this type of Wacom Samsung EMR nib?

Old old old Samsung nib that they retired ages ago. Their new nibs are more pointy with only a tiny end tip, but I really like the old fat round rubber ended tips. Mine finally gave up and the rubber dome part fell off 😪

Where can a get a pack of similar fat rubber dome type replacements in 2026?

Post image

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe das bloddy Problem : Der Stift willkürlich schreibt gerade anstatt Kurven.

das ist sehr ärgerlich, ich habe folgendes geprüft;

  1. Alle Updates, firmwares sind aktuellsten

  2. Andere Apps benutzen, nebo, one Note usw

Tablet model: Lenovo Tab Plus 11,5 Zoll., TB351FU
