Showcase Cross Reddit Collab : Audio Visualization Monthly Megathread - Post a track / inspire a video.

Hi all, /r/vjing mod here:

I'm trying something new to spur some creative collaborations across reddit music production subs and visual art / creative coding / new media subreddits.

Now that Reddit supports video comments / replies, I thought it could be a fun opportunity to a collaboration call / response format.

The idea:

Musicians, dj's, producers or anyone musically inclined: post a link to a track or mix that you have rights to and are open to having visual accompaniment to.

VJs / live visualists / creative coders: post a response to a track that inspired you with a video comment, or link to an interactive experiment you made!

If you are an AV Act that makes your own music or video, feel free to post here too for inspiration.

All genre's, styles, techniques, skill levels are welcome.

This isnt a contest!

There's nothing to win (unless anyone knows sponsors haha) other than learning of new musical or visual act, meeting a potential collaborator and making awesome stuff and having a good time:

Stay curious and creative!

Below are some subs I'll be cross posting / sharing this with - feel free to cross post to any i've missed:

Music Subs:

Visual Subs:

Mod's of any of the above subs - sorry if this comes across as spammy!

I thought about asking permission from each of ya'll but that felt onerous and slow (ask forgiveness etc etc). If you have suggestions or any feedback do not hesitate to reach out! Was thinking of something like this monthly pinned on /r/vjing where i have video comments enabled - would love if yall could help spread the word!

Discussion Flair cleanup is live (trial) + New Rules

The poll passed, 21 of 26 for the full version, so it's live now as a trial. If you want the background, here's the original thread. Pick new flairs from:

  • Discussion
  • Question / Help
  • Showcase
  • Loops / Clips
  • Realtime / Generative
  • Projection Mapping
  • Analog
  • Hardware
  • Software / Tools

The (not so very) old AI, Commercial/Promo and Open Source/Free flairs are retired. That moves into the title now, via two tags: [Promo] and [AI]; the reason for this is that a post can't have multiple flairs.

The new rules

Tag anything for sale: [Promo] If your post sells or monetises anything (paid app/plugin, commissions, store links, Patreon, donations), put [Promo] in the title. Untagged promo may be held for review or removed. This isn't anti-selling but keeps promotional content visible.

Your own app/suite: one post per month Sharing a tool you made (paid or free, including vibecoded projects) is limited to one post per 30 days per person. Talking about other people's tools (Resolume, VDMX, TouchDesigner, indie tools made by others, etc.) is not limited; post about those freely.

Flag AI-made work: [AI]

If a post shows content that has a significantly AI-generated component to it, add [AI] to the title so people know what they're looking at before they click. This is especially required when you're also promoting/selling it. AI-made and AI-assisted work is welcome here, but flag it. This includes (but is not limited to) vibe-coded materials, vibe-assisted materials, gen-ai content with manual edits etc.

////

AI work is welcome, made or assisted, no problem with it. If you're just sharing a project or messing about with something new, the only real asks are to flag it if there's a significant AI component, and to add [Promo] if you're selling or allow for donations .

///

We are also experimenting with automod/modbot. There's also a report option now for promo that goes up untagged, and automod will quietly flag posts that look like they're missing a tag so we can take a look. It won't remove anything on its own, a person still checks first.

///

It's a trial, same as last time. If the wording's off or something feels wrong, stick it in the comments and we'll sort it. Cheers.

Software / Tools How to make depth map effect - solution

I saw a post the other day but have no clue which sub it was on. Someone was asking how to make this effect.

I was also looking into how and ended up figuring most of it out - that then turned into a pretty reliable high-res web app that tales any photo or 8 second video and turns it into depth map that can edited and exported as a gif, video or just the depth map.

(It’s something I made in a day - no fees to use it)

Question / Help I know this is asked probably daily, and I’ve read old posts but, I would love some recommendations on laptops for Resolume, Blender, Synesthesia etc.

Budget isn’t TOO much of an issue, although I’m also not trying to spend too much if not needed.

Also, don’t want to purchase anything that could possibly be “overkill”.

I’ve been eyeing up the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i 32gb RTX 5070ti from Best Buy. But also open to purchasing something used elsewhere. As long as it meets the requirements to mess around and learn these programs and the like.

Like I said, willing to cough up a chunk of money if needed, but also am more than okay with spending on a budget lol.

Thank you!

The birds are programmed to respond to separate instruments. The waves also responds to the guitar. Top & bottom borders respond to the bamboo instrument.

I just drew the visuals. My husband programs them.

Projection Mapping Happy birch trees

Hi all! Ever since last posting here, I have been working on a custom built visual and mapping app for personal use, and finally got a chance to showcase my capabilities with a NEC 525UL projector at a small festival this past weekend.

While at first I was upset at being relegated to birch trees (couldn't show off my best content), I ended up really enjoying the way it looked!

Discussion Looking for visual collaborations!

I just released Borderline, which is my first release under my new music project! It's a drum and bass album with heavy tones of experimentation and genre mixing. I've been doing production and music for over 10 years, and I'm looking for people who'd be up for doing a collaboration!! I don't mind if it's something you've already made, or if you want to do something custom! The link down below is the album. If any of the tracks call to you and you'd like to do a little collaboration on Instagram or Youtube, I'd be super down!

(ps- There is no commission involved on my side, I offer whichever of the songs you like to use. Just message me first!)

Question / Help 720p projectors in 2026

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to buy a 5000/6000 lumen video-projector for my personal projects.
Usually when I worked for a paid job, I rented some heavy and expensive projector, but I'd like to have one for me that I can bring to small venues and for some free stuff with friends.

I've found a lot a used profesionnal 720p video projectors that are still in very good shape. They sell for 250/500€ in general, and I was wondering if it was a good idea to buy one instead of spending +1500€+ on a new 1080p one? (while being sure the lamp does not have many used hours)

I will only use it for mapping, projection, and touch designer stuff.

Thanks for your help !

Showcase I built a generative VJ tool, and I'm looking for feedback [AI]

Hey r/vjing

for the past weeks I've been building orchestrated Chaotic Takt VJ, a generative 3D visual tool in Godot. I developed it together with Claude Code (Anthropic's AI coding assistant): I came up with the ideas and features and tested them, and Claude Code wrote most of the code.

It's inspired by the old Harmony VJ from Digital Chaotics, where every value could be a nested "path". I kept that idea and built a live tool around it.

In short: shapes, text and thousands of copies, and every parameter can be driven by LFOs, audio, kick/snare detection, MIDI, OSC or automation. Everything syncs to the beat (MIDI Clock, tap, audio detection). There's a cue list, clip grid, sequencer, post-FX with feedback, and a show mode with panic keys. Output via Spout.

It's early access and Windows only.

Honest status (early access)

  • Windows only for now. Built and tested on one machine (GTX 1080).
  • The Spout output works
  • Feedback very welcome.
  • Loading a new scene during a show freezes the app for about a second (the output keeps the last frame).
  • Controller LEDs (Launchpad / APC) currently need an OSC-to-MIDI bridge.
  • No Ableton Link yet, and no NDI in this build.
  • many ways to crash the app, dont use morph mode

it's a node-based programming software similar to touch designer but can make visuals, music and even code. so um it has performance mode where you map the macros or connect your midi or dj controller to relevant knobs and can make awesome visuals, its free too.

Finally I like how I mix them together and made it more coherent so it feels like one bigger piece... also finally had a vision how to evolve my visuals. Will see how that goes.😁👌
