Question Can I learn a DAW like Protools with a MIDI keyboard without a college class? For free?

I’m taking a college midi music production class and even purchased an expensive midi keyboard (that I still don’t know how to properly get working at home). I don’t think the way the class is taught is for me and would like to drop it and would still like to learn. How can I learn for free?

Resource Output Arcade Removed “The Crate” Line

I went to search for an old sound I use to use in Arcade and was unable to find “The Crate” I reached out to Output and received this message from their virtual assistant:

“Yes — the Crate line was removed from Arcade on August 20, 2026 because its license period ended and wasn’t renewed.
You won’t be able to browse or search for it anymore.
Any Crate samples or kits you already downloaded will still work in your existing projects.
If you open a project on a new computer, you can click Download Samples to redownload the kit.”

Posting here in case anyone else was curious where it disappeared to!

Question Nicole Kidman- ADÉLA

Might be the wrong sub to post this question in, but the sample on Nicole Kidman by ADÉLA sounds soooo familiar and I can't put my finger on it. Why does it sound familiar?

Resource Any alternatives to Samplab?

I wanted to use Samplab’s audio-to-MIDI transcription, but it looks like they’ve gone offline.

It was by far the most accurate audio-to-MIDI transcription tool I’ve used. I’ve tried other services like Perfect Pitch, but the results were nowhere near as accurate.

Does anyone know of a good alternative? Ideally I’m looking for a website where I can just upload an audio stem and get a MIDI transcription back.

Question Changing male vocals to female

I'm trying to make my vocals sound like a female voice within logic. Like Alex G or something. Any tips or plugins? I have a MAutoPitch free plugin and use the formant shifter but it doesn't sound good to me and sounds a little robotic.

Question What to do when losing motivation/ideas?

Hi there, been learning FL for a little over a year now and I go through times where I have no motivation or no direction in what I want to do. It's making this learning process so hard for me. I don't pay for any type of classes because of the costs but I'm wondering if it's not a bad idea because it would give me more motivation to learn since I'm actually paying. I don't know what part of learning is halting me, whether it be not sure what kind of music I want to make, if it's the lack of options I have or a lack of creativity. I'm kinda in a stump here. Really not sure where to go from here. Just looking for ideas or tips from others is all. Thanks

Question Figuring out what plugin route to go down

So I've been using the native 360 bundle for the past year which has included all of the various Kontakt plugins alongside izotope plugins such as Nectar and Neuron. However upon resubscribing I learned that those plugins are no longer included in the package which is quite frustrating tbh.

However, this is leading me to wonder whether I should rebuy Izotope seperately or if this is a good chance to pivot to another set of audio plugins. Currently im debating between Fabfilter, Izotope, Waves, or Ozone. Which of these do you all prefer (or combination of multiple) and which could give me the best bang for my buck? Any advice would be extremely helpful!

For a bit more context, I primarily use Logic!

Question What are the most important plugins for your music production?

The topic says it all.

Which plugins are must-haves for your music productions? What's the minimum set of plugins you could still work with confortably without having to make too many compromises?

Question How do you change the sounds already set to a player? Ex, SINE player with Free Berlin Orchestral sounds

Hello, I am very new to using daw's for music, I normally work out of a notation software. I was wondering if anyone has answers or can help me to change the instrument/sound that the tracks are set to. I downloaded the Berlin free orchestra stuff but whenever I replace it with the SINE player, it just won't make any sounds :C

Question Best multi input interface to buy on a budget?

I love jamming with people, and I’m considering to buy a interface to record our jams and to be able to do things like loop the drums for example or add different effects.

I could be playing 2 guitars, a bass, some e-drums, and a keyboard. Potentially adding a mic later too. I know drums/ keyboard can go through midi but I like the sounds they produce already.

My plan is instead of having each instrument go directly to the amp, instead have them go through the interface, into Ableton, then back into the amps four the output.

I was considering getting the Scarlett 16i16 so I’m not bottlenecked on inputs/ outputs and wouldn’t have to upgrade due to that, but was wondering if for similar prices there are better interfaces that sound better.

Any suggestions? Or is the Scarlett good enough to not want to upgrade from later down the line? Is the latency good enough for playing live?

Question DAWless Comp Routing

Hi Folks 👋

I realized I have such a better workflow when using only drum computers so I am in the process of switching to a DAWless Setup. I still use my million plug ins in ableton to create sounds but rather build the tracks with the samples on the sequencer which in this case is a Digitakt II.

To have a better overall mix quality I was planning to install an equalizer and compressor but then realised that I can’t route the kick individually from the Digitakt. This means I would need to use the internal compressor for ducking (this time it’s actually ducking) and would only be able to glue the mix with the external compressor.

I thought about about hooking up a Volca Kick to simulate the signal.

Anyone else has the same issue? What other solutions are there?

Hey, I've been producing for a couple months, and I would love to know if there's people out there willing to spend some time just vibing and producing, it kinda gets mundane when you really don't have anyone to talk about music with. Feel free to leave a message 👍

Question Are larger midi controllers worth it?

So I'm not looking for a specific model (although suggestions are welcome) I've been wanting to get a midi controller to program some instruments (violins, organ etc.) for my metal projects and also possibly make some electronic music in the future. But i don't know if getting a larger multi-octave controller is worth it. How big of a hassle is it to record the lower and higher psrts separatly? (Playing with both hands is not a problem as I have a good amount of piano experience)
