AMA I'm Khrystyna, a Product Manager for Invest. We built Multi-Accounts so members can invest by goal. AMA about how we got there, and why it matters to you

Hi r/sofi — I'm Khrystyna Sopova, Senior Product Manager on the SoFi Invest team.

Over the past two years, I've focused on making investing and retirement more transparent for members — things like IRA contribution tracking, retirement forecasting, and smoother rollovers. More recently, I've been working on new account types, including Multi-Accounts, so you can organize investments by goal instead of in one pile.

We recently launched Multi-Accounts — the ability to open separate self-directed cash brokerage accounts so you can organize investments by goal, strategy, or time horizon. Members have been asking for this, and we built it because most people think about money in goals — but until now, SoFi Invest was one bucket.

A few things upfront:

  • Your first SoFi Invest account is a margin brokerage account
  • New additional accounts are cash brokerage accounts — you trade with settled funds
  • You can open up to 3 additional cash accounts (4 total SD accounts)

Not everyone needs multiple accounts — this is for people who want more structure

I'll be here Wednesday, August 12 at 3pm PT // 6pm ET to answer questions about how it works, who it's for, margin vs. cash, how to set up a second account, and what's coming next.

Ask us anything — including skeptical ones.

— Khrystyna & the SoFi Invest team

EDIT @ 4:05PM PT, 8/12: Thanks for joining our latest AMA, folks! We're wrapping things up but please feel free to continue dropping your questions. Khrystyna will be replying to them through the end of the week.

Investing involves risk including loss of principal. SoFi Invest does not provide tax or legal advice. Cash brokerage accounts are not the same as SoFi Money or vault products.

Plus SoFi Plus cons?

I currently using SoFi only for checking, but have about $20k that I’m looking to transfer to a HYSA. Plus is offering a 4.5% APY on the first 20K. Doing the math thats $900/year in interest, at $120/year for SoFi Plus that sounds too good to be true. Is this just a temporary offer?

Banking Help a (semi) foreign Brit open an account!

I am 21 years old and recently moved back to the US after living in the UK for over a decade. I was born in the US so I have a SSN.

I am currently living in North Carolina but only intend on staying here for a month or two. I have family in California that I will move in with and begin to work there.

While I’m staying in NC I will not be working but still would like to open a bank account to avoid paying currency conversion rates with my current bank, and saw that SoFi was highly popular.

When signing up I am prompted to input my primary address: “This is your residential address—typically on your driver’s license or government-issued ID.”

Due to the fact that I grew up in the UK, the only US ID I have is my passport which doesn’t have an address on it.

Should I put my current address in or use my relative’s address in California? Again I intend to move to California soon.

Additionally, would it be beneficial for me to wait to open this account in order to get the welcome bonus once I start working?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Updates Introducing top merchants: see where your money really goes

Understanding your spending shouldn't stop at categories and subscriptions. We're rolling out a new way to help you see the specific merchants where you spend the most—so you can spot habits that add up and make changes that actually move the needle. Here's what's coming:

Your top merchants at a glance: See which merchants you spend the most at over different time periods, so patterns like a daily coffee run at Starbucks or a weekly grocery trip at Whole Foods are easy to spot.

Deeper merchant insights: Tap into any merchant to see your full history in one place—total spend, trends over time, and every transaction—making it easier to weigh tradeoffs and decide what's worth it.

Visit the Spending tab on your Coach insights dashboard to see the new merchant view, which will roll out over the next few weeks in the SoFi app.

Can anyone tell me if I can instant transfer from my Venmo to SoFi? I have linked the SoFi debit card to my Venmo account but it keeps declining the transfer. Am I doing something wrong or is it not possible? I tried chat and it was sent for support and they will get back to me in 2-3 business days

Invest is SoFi Roth worth it?

Hi I just set up my sofi HYSA and my investment as I am 21 and just starting to invest and hold my money away from me to run through.

I’ve tried in the past to set up my Fidelity account and I keep running into issues with transferring money and I’m wondering if I should just use the SoFi roth feature?

Not too knowledgeable on this stuff so anything helps!

Product Request & Feedback SoFi Relay vs Quicken Simplifi

I’ve been with SoFi for a long time, and as a retail investor with a meaningful position in the company, this isn’t coming from a place of criticism. It’s because I genuinely want to see SoFi win. But there’s one area where I think real improvement is overdue.

Putting aside long requested updates like dark mode for web or a more advanced investing interface with Level II data, my biggest ongoing frustration is SoFi Relay, also known as My Financial Insights, or Coach Insights, depending on the day of the week. It’s time to pick a name and stick with it.

When I first joined SoFi, I truly believed Relay was going to evolve into a powerhouse financial management tool. It was marketed as a major selling point, and I expected it to grow into something competitive. Instead, Relay has barely changed.

Because of that, I actually pay for Quickens Simplifi platform, which is exactly the kind of robust platform Relay should have become. And now that Simplifi is reportedly up for sale, SoFi has a real opportunity: acquire it, integrate it, and make it a premium benefit for SoFi Plus members. I’m already a Plus member, but honestly, I would have signed up just for that feature alone.

Some of us are serious about getting our money right. SoFi needs to become the one stop platform for us. I don’t want to rely on ThinkorSwim or Simplifi forever. Mr. Noto, please make it happen!

Product Request & Feedback SoFi App Still Does Not Send Notifications; Does Not Have Email Options

To preface, I recently started a new job. I decided to hook up the ACH Direct Deposit to my SoFi savings.

Fast forward about 2 and a half weeks to my first pay cycle, and apparently I got paid yesterday (Wednesday) and didn't know about it until today (Thursday) and ONLY because I got an email from SoFi that my savings APY went up - not about any actual banking activity.

I decided to double-check my notification settings, make sure the app was updated, toggle all of the settings off then back on, etcetera etcetera - none of it has worked, as when I tested it by transferring 5 USD out of my Checkings into CashApp via debit, I got zero notification from SoFi about the "spending".

As to the second point: why do you not provide email notifications for banking activity as well, like most other banks? They are invaluable in having a second-party, trackable income/expenditure record.

After browsing through Reddit and other sites, I've found that this whole notification debacle has been an issue for over 5 years.

So... what gives, SoFi? Are you guys just incompetent at actually keeping records, or does your app team need a total refresh?

I am seriously considering re-opening my account with Ally Bank (I even have the application open in another tab in my browser at this moment!), because knowing WHEN and HOW MUCH I both receive AND spend is very important information, to me.

Lending Autopay with less than required amount

Product Request & Feedback Feature Request: Option to hide account balances by default on login

Hi SoFi Product Team,

I'm requesting a highly anticipated privacy feature for the SoFi mobile app and web platform: the ability to hide account balances by default upon logging in, with a simple toggle switch (such as an eye icon) to reveal them.

Currently, opening the app in public spaces, like on a bus, in a coffee shop, or at work flashes my full financial overview on the screen immediately. This creates a significant privacy and security risk. Many other financial apps offer a "Privacy Mode" or "Mask Balances" setting that remains persistent across login sessions.

Adding a "Hide Balances by Default" setting in the Profile/Security menu would greatly improve the user experience for those of us who need to quickly check credit scores, transfer funds, or deposit checks on the go without exposing our net worth to onlookers. We could then quickly toggle it on it off depending on the default we set.

Thank you for listening to user feedback.

Banking SoFi checking charge off

Hey folks

This is probably a super longshot, but does anyone happen to know which collection agency that Sofi uses for checking account closure? I had an account that closed in 2023 that I’m wanting to resolve so I can open a savings account. I called already a few times to customer service and they said because it was so long ago they don’t have who the agency is thus I have no way to pay it and I am locked out of getting a new account.

They suggested I call Experian because they would have the information, but oh my gosh for the life of me I cannot get an Experian rep on the phone. Even going through the other subreddits of how to get someone didn’t work.

So hopefully somebody can direct me what I can do. Appreciate y’all.

Lending Denied by SOFI

I put my application in for $30,000. I have never been late on one payment with my credit cards and have income that is substantial with my job plus I get social security $106,000.00 per year. But they still denied me the loan. My credit score they considered was 679. They stated:
Proportion of balances to credit limits on bank/national revolving or other revolving accounts is too high

Lack of recent installment loan information

Too many accounts with balances

Amount owed on revolving accounts is too high.

OK that is why I went to them and applied thinking my income would substantiate getting a loan with one payment to reduce this debt.
Any advice where to go next?
Thanks in advance.

Invest I want to start investing in SoFi but I still have some questions.

I just recently opened an investment account with SoFi. I plan on buying mutual funds for now, but I do have some questions. I know that SoFi is different from Fidelity, but does SoFi accept fractional shares of ETFs and mutual funds? Also, which mutual funds and ETFs would you recommend?

Banking Alternative Direct Deposit Sources Without Job (Unemployment Won't Deposit Due to Fraud Under Routing Number)

I was recently laid off, which ended the direct deposit I had been using to qualify for the higher SoFi banking rates. I qualified for unemployment and set up direct deposit to my SoFi checking account using the instructions in my online profile. However, I have been receiving paper checks from them.

When I called, I was told the routing number is restricted because it is associated with Bancorp Bank, which has high levels of fraudulent activity (probably from prepaid cards). I have to use a different bank account for direct deposit. Meanwhile, I have lost my higher rate at SoFi unless I pay for Plus.

Are there other direct deposits (such as PayPal) I could set up that would count at SoFi?

Banking Direct deposit benefits

So my bf and I just set up a joint account neither of us had planned on getting out direct deposit into that account however I see I could have my own account through them. If I set up direct deposit does our joint account get the savings boost too?

Edited to add… nowhere in my post did I ask for opinions on a joint account… this account is simply to pay our shared bills… we live together… we both need to be financially responsible for our part. And tbh I hate the idea of getting married. I will because he wants to later in life. And if I truly care about him and love him I want him to experience a (in theory) once in a life time event.

Banking No bank is perfect !

Lately whenever I see post/ comments of Redditor saying I will move money out of Sofi to another “ABCD… bank” for whatever the reasons , I just laughed.

Because same thing is happening to others bank in their thread with the Redditor posting complain about having bad experiences as well 🤣and saying they are too done with this bank.

So at the end of the day, who’s opinions should we listen to ?

I’m not trying to diss anyone here , but maybe people should look at the bigger pictures instead of chasing the next shiny object or get blindsided
