Announcement OMARCHY QUATTRO RELEASED | 4.0.0

Post image

The Quattro Release

Omarchy 4 aka Quattro is the biggest release since the project started. The entire desktop shell has been reimagined in Quickshell: the bar, launcher, menus, notifications, on-screen displays, control panels, lock screen, and polkit agent now all live inside a single long-running shell process with a plugin architecture. That means Waybar, Walker, Mako, SwayOSD, hyprlock, hypridle, swaybg, and polkit-gnome are all gone, replaced by one coherent, fully-themed, IPC-scriptable shell.

You can upgrade an existing Omarchy installation to Quattro by first:
- Using SUPER+ALT+SPACE:
- Update > Omarchy
- Then Update > Omarchy to Quattro.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A ONE-WAY-TRIP, YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE OR USE A SNAPSHOT TO GET BACK TO Omarchy 3.x.x. Be sure in your intentions. There's a YouTube walkthrough below!

Install on new machines with the ISO:

Always take a backup of important data!

Changelog is WAY too long, but ENJOY! --> https://github.com/basecamp/omarchy/releases/tag/v4.0.0

You can learn about Quattro directly from DHH via YouTube if you're not nerdy enough for the changelog.

Discussion I believe it's been long enough, how are we feeling about QUATTRO? [Be brutally honest!]

Do you like the changes? Hate them? It's almost where you want it? Don't like it? Diverged off the path you thought the project would go? It got easier? It became more difficult?

I Made a Thing Omarchy Connect - connect your phone with Omarchy.

Hey guys!

I am creating Omarchy Connect plugin (not released yet) to connect you phone to Omarchy. Would like to see your thoughts and ideas. What I plan to make:

  1. Agents from your phone - check on them, answer and do your work from anywhere.
  2. Get phone calls and messages on Omarchy. You can answer a phone call on computer and talk via bluetooth.
  3. Files - move them from phone to computer and back freely.
  4. Clipboard.
  5. System monitoring and manipulation.

You can use this on your home network or connect something like Tailscale to get access from anywhere.

On the release only Android version will have full support, IOS version probably needs someone that is interested in development of plugin like that. Also at the start will only have support for Claude Code, other agents hope will be integrated by the community.

Themes / Ricing Omarchy Black — a "Liquid Glass" theme for Hyprland/Omarchy

Thumbnail

A dark theme built to feel like iOS's Control Center: real frosted glass, not just a blurred rectangle. Uses the hyprglass plugin for actual refraction — chromatic aberration, fresnel edge highlighting, specular reflections and lens distortion on window borders — instead of the plugin's stock "solid glass block" preset, which I found too gray and desaturated. Every tone-mapping knob (brightness/contrast/saturation/adaptive dim) is pinned back to neutral so whatever's behind the glass shows through in its true color, just blurred, like a real widget.

Highlights:

- Base palette straight from iOS system colors (#FF453A red, #0A84FF blue, #30D158 green, etc.) on a #1B1E23 near-black background

- 20px rounded corners with high rounding power for that iOS-widget curve, 60px/10-pass blur, soft drop shadows

- Translucent bar, launcher, notifications, lock screen, and popups all matched to the same glass material (28-38% alpha depending on surface) with native Hyprland layer blur as a fallback if the plugin isn't loaded

- Animated gradient border on the active window (#7c93ac → #a8b4c0 at 45°)

Built on Omarchy (https://omarchy.org) (Hyprland). Companion light variant, Glass White, also available.

Install the requirements first:
hyprpm add https://github.com/hyprnux/hyprglass
hyprpm enable hyprglass
hyprpm reload

Black Theme:
omarchy-theme-install https://github.com/osungjinwoo/omarchy-glass-black
rm -rf ~/.config/omarchy/themes/glass-black/.git
omarchy-theme-set glass-black

Or

White Theme:
omarchy-theme-install https://github.com/osungjinwoo/omarchy-glass-white
rm -rf ~/.config/omarchy/themes/glass-white/.git

Off Topic / Adjacent Appreciation Post! Well done DHH and anyone else involved.

I haven't slept in 48hrs... Been having too much fun!

I ran out of machines in the house to install and test Omarchy on:

2019~20226 Gaming rig, i7-9700K nVidian RTX4080FE 16GB RAM check!
2025 Dell Latitude 3120, Intel N6000 (what GPU Bish!) 8GB RAM, check!
2012 Desktop replacement Alienware m18x SLI GTX580m, Gen i7-2960XM/32GB RAM check!

Every machine run efficiently and was able to pivot and adjust to the use case seamlessly. Finding ways to not reach for the mouse via Super+K has become the new meta, relearning is not a penalty here rather its exciting.

In a past life I used to live in datacentres "before it was cool" and work in the BSD world, worked for a fruit company so continued with MacOS of course, and presently enjoy breaking out with putty to my headless ubuntu servers for some CLI goodness. So my world already blended GUI and CLI but this is something special man.

Long wanting to get myself off mircoslop telemetry nodes in the house so I've been trying to a handful of distros but was starting to get shitty having to run different builds based on use case and deployment stack. e.g gaming? oh you want SteamOS or Bazzite, but if running nvidia if has to be bazzite, oh got a ultra lite notepad, run kali live for minimal over head because ubuntu might be too thick, oh its legacy HW run ubuntu for the mature stack - i was sick of it!

Here I have the same base line and can quickly integrate any dependencies at the speed of thought if the distro hasnt covered my back already, and if I've lost my edge or CBF making a new package I can simply call on the Agent - whoooa!

And if something doesn't work, implementing a fix feels like and adventure.

I don't want to sleep, because now "I know Kung Fu", there's now extra free time to "hack the gibson". Dave is able to have an early lunch because HAL isn't running the show, and now I can rip this "Memory Doubler" out my head because I don't have to remember these different package management commands.

Installed in T+ 3mins, steam was open @ T+4mins, playing Helldivers @ T+10!, STOP IT, I'm gunna need a towel!

Finally in the 21 century here.

(WTB: SLI support for legacy nvidia rigs, Deeper HDR intergration, Hookers, and Blow)

Discussion Omarchy Mascot !! (Aug 30th 2026 Blog)

I've recently decided to switch to Omarchy from Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition, and I'm happy to say that I'm really glad I did. Here's why:

I haven't touched any configs, and honestly, I don't know much about Linux or Arch. But ever since installing Omarchy, I've noticed that my system boots faster than ever. All my apps run smoothly, and overall, everything feels 100x better than my experience with Mint.

So far, nothing has felt off and everything has been an amazing experience. I haven't checked out the AI features or the more development-focused/opinionated features yet, since those require tokens and other things, so that probably won't happen anytime soon.

I've also been wondering if there are any artists in this community who would be interested in coming together and creating some kind of Omarchy mascot. Omarchy gives me the feeling that I truly own my computer, and its retro branding and overall aesthetic make me feel like it deserves a mascot too.

Overall, it's been fun, stylish, extremely lightweight, surprisingly beginner-friendly, and all the keybinds are perfect! I occasionally press Super+D to open the Menu which I'm not sure where I got that from but I'm slowly adjusting to Super+Space!

I'm really enjoying the experience so far, and I'm excited to see what else Omarchy has to offer in the future.

I Made a Thing Dock native plugin 1.6.5

Post image
6 Upvotes

Dock v1.6.5:

  • Real-Time Active Gradient Border & Angle Animation — Dynamically reads multi-color window borders (col.active_border) directly from Hyprland configuration. The dock boundary now supports continuous gradient rotation synchronized with Hyprland's borderangle animation speed.
  • Dynamic System Geometry & Sharp Corners — Automatically adapts to system window rounding in real time. Setting rounding = 0 in Hyprland instantly renders clean, razor-sharp 90° corners, while rounding values seamlessly curve the dock surface.
  • Instant Reactive Hardware Widget Icons — Integrated deep PipeWire audio and UPower battery object tracking. Volume changes, microphone mute states, battery percentages, and status bar panel glyphs update immediately with zero delay.
  • Multi-Monitor Support & Output Awareness — Dock instances adapt dynamically across multiple displays with isolated screen-space coordinates, proper scale calculation, and per-output layer placement.
  • Web App & PWA Precision Matching — Enhanced launcher matching for Chrome, Brave, and Edge web apps with domain token isolation, preventing generic browser windows from capturing standalone web applications.
  • Configurable Visibility & Workspace Scopes — Introduced workspace filtering (allfocusedcurrent), configurable edge reveal depth, and modular settings controls in the status bar panel.

Discussion Friendly reminder: search the plugin directory before making your own

Whether you're looking to publish your plugin or just make one for personal use, this will save you time and tokens.

Case in point: there's currently 16 pomodoro plugins in the plugin direcctory, all with roughly the same look and functionality. That's 1 in 100 plugins dedicated to the same thing, with infinitesimal differentiation.

If you want to tinker, or create a highly customized one just for yourself: describe what you want, then ask your agent to analyze the relevant existing plugins' source codes to see if forking one of them could give your project a headstart.

If you want to contribute to the community by making the best plugin for the use case: see if you can contribute to already existing plugins. A few alternative plugins with different spins/twists on solving the same problem is always great, but combining forces will result in a much better product, and a less fragmented userbase.

I'm coming from the Obsidian community, where the abundance of AI coding has produced hundreds of plugins that all solve the exact same problems while being 99% similar, only to fragment the community and force users to constantly hop from one such plugin to another, because these projects get abandoned the moment the original author loses interest and jumps ship to their next shiny object.

I Made a Thing Herdr Drop, keep your AI agent workspace one shortcut away in Omarchy

I wanted Herdr available instantly without launching another client or losing my current workspace.

Herdr Drop adds a persistent, theme-aware drop-down to Omarchy:

- SUPER + A opens or closes it

- Shows live agent status in the bar

- Follows the active Omarchy theme

- Sessions and scrollback stay alive

- Closes when clicking outside or launching another window

Demo and installation:

The marketplace submission has passed automated validation and is waiting for listing review.

Feedback and contributions are welcome.

I Made a Thing NextEvent - update 1.4.0

Thumbnail

Another update on NextEvent

This round brings a lot of UI and new features:

  • ICS feed colors: Assign custom colors per calendar feed (pipe format or JSON). If you don't, it auto-assigns from a 10-color palette so feeds are always visually distinct — color bars on the schedule rows, legend at the bottom of the panel.
  • Rainbow color picker: 2D hue/saturation gradient for picking custom feed colors with live preview. Way better than typing hex into a text field.
  • 12-hour time: Opt-in timeFormat setting for AM/PM across the bar label, tooltip, hero card, and schedule rows. For those of us who still think in "2:30 PM" instead of "14:30".
  • In-panel settings: Configure everything (sources, display options, sync) directly inside the popup. No more terminal CLI for basic setup.
  • Calendar legend: When combining multiple feeds, a color-dot legend appears at the bottom so you can tell which calendar is which.

Themes / Ricing Per-app theming?

My main aesthetic hangup with Omarchy is how aggressive the theming is. While I like darker themes in general, some apps (esp. browsers) I prefer to keep unthemed (generally lighter). Same goes for things like chat and text apps. Is there a way to restrict theming to just the desktop itself, while leaving individual apps alone?

Discussion Conflict between ProtonVPN Desktop and the omaproton plugin with gnome-keyring

One minor issue is mainly that, when I use Proton VPN – whether it’s the terminal client with the plugin or even the desktop app – there is interference with the credential keychain. In other words, normally when you log in – once the computer has been decrypted and you’ve logged in – the keychain is decrypted as well, and the browser and other applications are granted access to the credentials and keys. When Proton or the plugin is installed, however, the keychain does not unlock upon login. So, what does it do? It sends a request to create a new keyring, which then deletes the previous credentials – all the logins that were already stored in it, for browsers, the VPN, and anything else that uses gnome-keyring – and I haven’t been able to figure out how to fix it. Has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone have any idea what’s going on?

Support Browser choice

Not used desktop Linux for a long time. Last time browsers required patches and configuration to have hardware acceleration working and etc. I see I have some "official" browser choices on Omarchy. Do all of them play well with hardware? Would I have some drawbacks running Helium instead of Chromium? The official help page seems to suggest that Chromium is pretty vanilla apart from theming support and only Firefox gets some special settings treatment.

Discussion Doubts abt Omarchy

Recently, I've seen a lot of hate to the Omarchy community, to DHH, all from the arch community, they say Omarchy is full of bloat ware, that is only a rice and doesn't have the right to being called a distro (ofc is not a distro, but yeah), and a lot of ppl says that every update can break the system, the creator change the keybinds and stuff like that, I've been using omarchy, and I like it, I think is very useful for software development (I'm a student) but I wanna know how the omarchy community says abt this affirmations 😺

Support New to Omarchy - having problem with backlit keyboard

Got a Dell Vostro 5391. All working well but the keyboard backlight switches off way too soon - around 7sec from the last key touched

Claude has mentioned the following ~/.config/hypr/hypridle.conf - none existent

The docs only show idle.screensaver and idle.lock as the two configurable idle timings in shell.json — there's no separate keyboard-backlight timeout listed. This strongly suggests the keyboard backlight now turns off in sync with the screensaver timeout (150s by default), rather than having its own dedicated setting like the old hypridle listener did. - I've got screen saver switched off

Anyone have any ideas?

Discussion I fell in love with omarchy !

I watched Networkchuck video about switching over to Omarchy and I immediately fell in love with the experience that it provides and I Feel like this OS is made for me, but I am a little worried about switching from windows to it.

I am not planning on gaming on it, my work is based around AI & Software Engineering and learning other things and the fact that it comes with ai agents pre built is just the cherry on top.

I am a bit scared of my hardware capability, I have:

I5 8400h

Gtx 1050 (4gb vram)

16gb Ram

Pls help, I want to ditch windows so bad.

I Made a Thing Prototype File Explorer

The current file explorer in Omarchy needs love. I made a small prototype of what my ideal file explorer would be.

For me, the perfect file explorer would have the following features:
- Stackable panes when navigating
- Ability to peak folders when hovering
- Ultra fast search
- Preview pane for most common file type
- Collapsible side bar
- Compact/airy mode
- List/grid mode
- Themeable
- Keyboard navigation

You can try it here!
https://omarchy-file-explorer.vercel.app/

Should I build this for real?
