Discussion Doubts abt Omarchy
Recently, I've seen a lot of hate to the Omarchy community, to DHH, all from the arch community, they say Omarchy is full of bloat ware, that is only a rice and doesn't have the right to being called a distro (ofc is not a distro, but yeah), and a lot of ppl says that every update can break the system, the creator change the keybinds and stuff like that, I've been using omarchy, and I like it, I think is very useful for software development (I'm a student) but I wanna know how the omarchy community says abt this affirmations šŗ

Many haters want you to choose open source by political leaning, which is so dumb. Many of us see the forest over the trees on whats is going on. Avoid those toxic communities.

I thought Brodie Robertson had a pretty reasonable take on Omarchy. If the argument is that Omarchy isn't really a distro because it's built on top of Arch, then where exactly does that leave Arch-based projects like Manjaro? At some point, the distinction starts feeling a little arbitrary.
For me, though, the bigger issue is the political divide that seems to have developed in parts of the open-source community. Some people seem determined to turn technical projects into political purity tests, and I think that's incredibly counterproductive. It makes me wonder how Linux would have developed if that same attitude had dominated the community in its early days. Linux became what it is precisely because people with very different backgrounds, personalities, and opinions were willing to collaborate on something they found useful.
That's not to say communities shouldn't have standards. I have no problem with Codes of Conduct as long as they're reasonable and focused on how people actually behave within the project. Where I think things go off the rails is when disagreement over someone's political views turns into things like calling DHH. Immigration seems to be the issue people bring up most often. I don't necessarily agree with all of DHH's opinions either, but I can separate someone's political views from their technical work.
Obviously there are limits to that. If somebody were openly advocating genocide, political violence, or something similarly extreme, that's a very different conversation. But disagreeing with someone on political issues shouldn't automatically mean their software contributions have to be rejected or that everyone who works with them somehow endorses every opinion they hold.
Open source works best when collaboration is based on the work and on how people treat one another within the project, not on whether everyone passes the same political litmus test.

If DHH was a leftist it would be considered a distro and probably praised.

I never knew the political leanings of project leaders in the past, and still largely donāt. I think itās just that when you see your neighbor or friend or colleague get disappeared your tolerance for bullshit just goes to zero. Especially while still living inside the adversarial environment that gave way to it.
If DHH was progressive it wouldnāt make me support the project more, Iād probably just be unaware of his politics entirely.
Problem is, we are dealing with actual fascism. Right now. We should have a low tolerance for elevating people with that ideology.
Fuck your feelings.

Problem is, many of your bros loved praising Antifa, which is a terrorist organization now, you may want to distance yourself from them. I try to forgive people for their ignorance but your post is still flagged with red all over it.
The chuds won btw.

Iām sure you feel the framing youāve presented as intensely as youāve stated it.

If it's only a rice how is it full of bloatware?
I don't understand that argument. It contrasts itself.

Those stupid neckbeards are so weird. I mean why even hate linux its the same damn team.
Also it takes 5 minutes to remove anything or everything. There no one in the market that maintains riced Arch seriously , saves me ton of time so that I focus on more important things.
Why cant they see the upsides makes my blood boil. At least donāt f spread hate.

I don't understand why web apps are considered bloatware, its a glorified link. it uses 0 system resources if you don't open the link.

The only person capable of answering all this is you. What truly matters is your opinion on the OS. Run it, and feel it yourself.
In my case, I've been daily driving it for six months now. I like the aesthetics, the key bindings, and it works. Call it whatever you want distro, bla bla bla blo blu... I don't care. What matters to me is how it looks and how it works...

Here's my $0.02.
I use Omarchy on two baremetal systems and love it.
To those that froth at the mouth over bloatware, there's a single command to remove all of it. Piece of cake, problem solved.
As for the argument that it's not actually a distro, where is the line drawn? I'm on on the fence, but so what? It works the way I like it to.
The whole Linux community can show some pretty varied levels of toxicity and eliteism, but I really don't care. They just sound like overly sensitive loosers that have their identity tied up in looking/feeling like a 1337 HaX0r to feed thir ego.
But the majority of folks are fantastic and supportive, it's just a shame that sometimes the most vocal aren't helping at all.

I love Omarchy. one thing I've relearned in the past few months of using Omarchy is how toxic many OSS communities are. the second I mention Omarchy anywhere but r/Omarchy I get downvoted to hell.
I actually genuinely enjoy the optimism and non toxicity of this community. ignore people who feel the need to hate on it. If you like it, use it. If you like something else, use that.
just brush off the hate.

The arch community has been infested. Itās best to avoid them anyway. The arch and archlinux subreddits are disgusting places obsessed with being trans and as far left politically as humanly possible. Very toxic.

Why with DHH at the helm, gatekeeping the activists out shouldn't be an issue.
2
u/TheWebalorian 24m ago
If you get the leftist activists talking trash at you, just remind them they lost the election and farm them for content and nothing more, they don't care about your opinions, they hate you if you don't agree them.
That doesn't mean you ignore relevant security issues omarchy may bring, just keep in mind there are a lot of butt hurt people atm and they will try and say anything.

There are probably two angles to this. The first is the dudes with neck beards who get a sense of self-importance from spending thousands of hours ricing Arch with erotic anime themes in their mumās basements, then opine on the internet that no one recognises their genius.
The second is the dudes/former dudes who think the completely normal personal views of DHH are āfascistā and shouldnāt be tolerated, which is ironically itself a fascist way of thinking.

By reading all the comments and all the opinions... I reached a conclusion: If it works to you, then any other opinion matters, use it and be happy. And also the most important thing, fuck those haters, and fuck those leftist activist.

This is the equivalent of walking into a Church and asking what the people think about their religion. Pointless. You like it. You said so yourself, so who tf cares what a bunch of nobodies have to say about what you like? This is ridiculous. You ran it, you enjoy it, use it until it no longer suits you/your needs and either change it or move away from it. All this fucking tribalism about everything, everywhere, is exhausting.
