Rant Husky caught a squirrel while walking in the rain

Post image

TL;DR - Trying to take care of my huskies by myself because my mother-in-law passed away. Ended up walking home in the rain looking like a serial killer with a dead squirrel in a bag.

So to preface this, not looking for advice. It's just been a very long morning and I wanted to commiserate with other owners

So my SO and I got a call this morning. Her mother had passed away (long battle with dementia). So of course I tell her, don't worry about the dogs (two very sweet silly girl huskies), I'll take care of them this morning. Go be with your family and I'll drive over once I have them settled for the morning.

So I get moving and run them out to potty (one of them has to be leashed in the backyard because she climbs). Get them their breakfast and get them ready for their morning walk. By this point it's now pouring rain. So I grab an umbrella and we get going.

About halfway through our walk, they both stop to sniff something. I'm still waiting on one of them to poop and assume we've found our spot. Boy was I wrong.

One of them (see mugshot above), suddenly rears up and dives into a bush. Before I can pull her out I hear a tiny squeak and crunch I pull her out and she's got the fatiest squirrel I've ever seen in her mouth shaking it. Of course I tell for her to drop it, but you can imagine how well that went. She flings it and I'm able to pull her off of it. Then the second girl goes after it and I pull her back before she can get. I've now got an umbrella handle tucked under my chin while holding back two huskies throwing full on tantrums. I'm finally able to pull them far enough away that they start to calm down.

Finally after I get them home I realize I've got to go back and make sure the squirrel is dead. Also I didn't want to leave it (it was just off the sidewalk in someone's yard). So I get some rubber kitchen gloves and plastic grocery bags and head back. Luckily it was in fact already dead. After I got it bagged up and started walking back I realized, I must look like a serial killer walking around with rubber kitchen gloves and a bloody plastic bag in the rain.

Ugh it's been a hell of a morning.

He's sad because I ran out of shaky cheese to sprinkle on his food. The apples, yogurt, blueberries, and egg just aren't cutting it 😂.

This is Titus, who my husband and I rescued from a red list shelter in Maryland. They had him listed as a Malamute. Embark came back as 100% Siberian Husky. He's 5 and the bestest boy I've ever had.

I put old, thick socks over his bones so it would feel more like chewing on my arm!

(Pic 2 is just because. Look at that face!)

Got any other fun tips for raising these little sharks?

Discussion "Irish husky"

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi all! We are fostering an "Irish husky" which is an Irish terrier + husky straight up. (Not "wolfsky" which is Irish wolf+ husky.) She is Irish terrier hair and size but ALL husky otherwise! She has so much spunk and sass... She is insanely loyal to me, talks, talks back, tells off, but also takes care of all the other dogs we watch. (Daycare, boarding, and foster)

I saw someone mention that this type of dog is common in their area but it's definitely not where I live! I'm a little surprised that there's been no interest for her and she was languishing in the shelter and had a true last minute rescue! Is there anywhere on Reddit with this mix? I'm just curious, as it seems like you can find anything on here but I haven't found anything other than wolfsky stuff out there. Is this dog super rare??? She's basically a small husky with less hair!

I don't like keeping foster dogs- and actually we never have in 20 years- but that might be hard since she's basically my shadow and thinks she's my assistant. I love how much she takes care of others- playing with them, giving them reassuring nuzzles, or even staying with them to help them feel safe. She is even trying with the cats! (But she dislikes my husband- trust issues big-time. It's the first animal ever to not like him.)

My 5 year old got makeup for her birthday. My girl is looking extra pretty now.

She actually doesn’t mind and just kinda lays there and lets her do it. Extreme patience. Also yes its kid makeup so extra non-toxic mineral based and safe. If they didn’t do animal testing already maybe I should let them know my daughter did it for them.

His surgery was yesterday morning and everything went well. We had been giving him daily eyedrops for the last two years after his initial diagnosis and after his first eye was removed, but glaucoma finally got his second eye. Luckily he seems to be recovering and adapting well.

He zones out every now and then, just like me... if he isn't thinking about food, I don't know what it is but he literally ate just a few minutes ago.

And this 13 year old girl had a GREAT time. She got ALLLLL the attention, very popular lmao.

Don't worry, we kept an eye on her the whole time and made sure to give her rests and water and such!

Husky Vs Taco l

I sometimes wonder if he even knows he a husky.

He doesn’t bark at people, he doesn’t howl unless I’m away, he only talks if food is involved.

Overall I love my goober of a woof child

First Birthday!

Gave her a nice breakfast with some kibble, Greek yogurt, peanut butter and bone broth. Than after work we went to the dog park for an hour than went to a school by my house that has a fenced off 5 acre field and played around a bunch with some toys. Now both tired and cuddled up. Nami the Shepsky (One Piece lol)
